I have to admit without modders I would not being willing to play DA anymore. TMP, many people on this thread, and the Zevran thread have kept me playing for a very long time.
Well I even play the game now and I'm mod-less due to console gaming. But I figure that I would have lost the interest too, when I wouldn't be so drawn in by my FF and this lovely forum.
And is it bad sign, when I even consider to pillage my bit of saved money to buy myself a new shiny PC --- only to be able to play the game with mods?
Not really no. I spent the 700 dollars I earned taking care of dogs over the summer on my Laptop. Best money I ever spent. Its well worth it to get a laptop or a desktop really.
I already have seen a good one for my needs. I know I shouldn't, but the prospect is really alluring. Must. Resist. The. Calling.
Now I know how Grey Wardens feel.
xD
Alistair: But I do want to cuddle with Lenya more than once...
Must. Resist. His. Puppy. Face.
If you want a good laptop just go to memory express. I got a great gaming rig, for just over 700 dollars, and with a in store deal I got most of my extra's for free.
OK, I think I fixed it, you should see the file now.
Thanks so much for the Alistair gifts! I've got a little ways to go before I can access them. My DE and Alistair are only just starting to get used to each other. Looking forward to those rings!

Haha, thanks but that would be too expensive in shipping, since I live in Germany xD Hmm..I think I rather aim for a desktop PC again, anyway. My current one is old but still running flawlessly after 5 years ...okay a bit slow but that's normal I guess. Aside DA- there a couple of PC-restricted games interesting for me too and it's somehow time for a new system after all the years *tries to justifies the plan*
Can I has Lenya naaoo?
Yeah, you won *sigh* Stupid puppy face. *shakes fist at Alistair*

I think that's a small part of why I'm playing a HNF again, once she gets through Ostagar there is nothing stopping her from bowling the boy over...errr...I mean comforting him, and sharing his grief in a mutually beneficial way. Yeah. That's what I meant.

I'd recommend a desktop. Laptops are great for their portability, but a desktop is much more flexible and cheaper. Dragon Age doesn't even require beefy hardware. If the other PC games you want aren't any more demanding than DA, you could easily get away with spending less than $400. Probably much less than that if you shop smart and get the right parts.
Ahh yes, thanks for the tip, I was looking for a desktop PC actually. I'm used to it and it's mostly better in the gaming department. I actually don't need a monster gaming PC, since the other games are older too and I'm usually a console gamer, anyway. Since I'm a total computer noob, I'm glad when it already comes in one piece and ready to plug in. So no I won't build the parts in myself, lol.
I'm a bit lost what concerns the video/graphic card though, what is recommended for games like DA, the Witcher? Any (not too expensive) tips?
Within Temptation-'Stand My Ground.' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRztRCwOTM0&feature=related (Alistair's Sacrifice. It also works for a hardened Alistair's acceptance of the idea of rule, when going to Landsmeet to fight Loghain himself with the full support of the Warden.)
This one is made me think about how Alistair might have felt when addressing the troops before the battle and knowing how many of them would be in the same league as Thomas and the rest of the militia from Redcliffe. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGmCCqAKpIE
A picture, because...why not?

Ok, quick question, at what resolution do you plan to play them? I have a two year old Radeon 4670 that's capable of running DA at max settings at 1680*1050. That card cost me $80 two years ago. You can see on this chart where it stands when compared to all other cards on the market. Basically, any card from that list that falls within the same range as that one would run both DA and the Witcher smoothly with all settings enabled at the resolution I mentioned above.
Also, though you said you don't want to choose parts yourself, check this guide on how to build a budget PC to get an idea of what you should be aiming for. Again, since the games you plan on playing are older, you can go with a lesser build and still be fine:

I can attest gaming laptops are expensive. I only have mine due to a well timed bonus hubby got as my desktop was dying. I love it to death, and it was a worthwhile investment to me since my habit was to buy a PC for what I was into at the time, then get into bigger things and outgrow it in a year...lol
Alistair: Maker? I know I've been less than pious, but please don't let her be as crazy as she seems? What kind of woman chops heads off, turns around smiles all sweet, and then uses perfect manners with a witch? Please don't let her kill me?

Resolution? One where you can discern the finer details but I have no idea what this means in pixel-data, lol. My crappy onboard thing max gets a 1440x 900 out of my screen, so that's hardly a reference
Thanks for the suggestion but uh no, all these little parts and numbers are frightening/confusing me, really, I have no idea where what belongs where and why, lol. Even if I were able to build it somehow, I still would fear to break parts of it or blow it up in the end. Since I'm far from being the deftly person I sometimes wish to be I can manage that easily. How Alistair said: It's a talent xD A set up PC is fine with me and I already have seen a nice, not too expensive one for 400€ . It has a NVIDIA GEFORCE 9800G card and 4 gb ram main memory. I think it suffice for occational gaming. X-mas can come now
So enough OT and confusing tech-talk for now, back to the gushing. <3

That's more than enough for Dragon Age at 1440*900. Provided it comes with a decent CPU, you'll be fine.

For comparison I'm using 2 9800GTs in SLI, 4G RAM and a 3GHz Quad core, and I can play DA maxed (8xAA) at 1920x1080 with 40-70fps.
Thanks Axe:) Alistair doesn't know it yet, but her face is a mix of two of the people he hates most...lol
Loghain and Morrigan?
Half right! Anora and Morrigan, I started with Anora's morph, because I've always liked it. But it wasn't working, and was tweaked beyond recognition by then so I got fed up and was playing with unique shapes tab, reduced anora to 50, increased morrigan to 50 and poof, Elea!..lol

Oh, thank god. If there was some Loghain in that face... I would have a lot of things to think about.
Of course you can't go wrong mixing Anora and Morri! No wonder she caught my eye, haha.
