Don't worry, whether you make him king or he stays a Warden, Alistair is going to have women throwing themselves at him.  Really don't think he'll need anyone's help.  Just because he doesn't take up every offer- like the women in Denerim he mentions propositioning him- is hardly a defect.  When he mentions the Chantry, it's to say he hadn't had much opportunity, being mostly surrounded by men and priestesses.  And, hate to be the one to point this out, but not all men are walking penises.

you guys don't like Zevran?

Some do, some don't, but given the fact that this is an Alistair thread, I think you'll find that most find Alistair's approach to things to be positive and gentlemanly.

Actually seeing a guy be a gentleman in a game is refreshing, even if he's an NPC.

Speaking of which, I just saw the secret scene from that one mod for the HNF. Very touching and I'm really not the romantic sort.

Anyone know how to change the character portrait for an NPC? Velanna portrait is hiddeous, even when I made a pretty morph for her.

Here is some Alistair eyebrow:

I like him fine.  But not everyone has to be like him, eh?

true. Not everyone likes Morrigan.  I think i like Alistair more as a  best friend with my male wardens.  he seems to make a good comrade in arms and best friend role.  Zev was a good "Fist bump" buddy but he was to shifty.

I like Alistair as a friend because if you listen to his banters and some dialogue, he really looks out for his friends.  He shows great concern about your romance with Morrigan but looks at a male romance with Leliana as "friendly flirting."

He and Leliana share many common values, although they disagree an just how much mercy should be shown to maleficars. And he likes her, defending her brand of 'crazy' to the warden, while he and Morrigan pretty much hated each other on sight.

Many of us like Zev, 3 of my characters romanced him to the end. What I personally don't like is the attitude that male virgin = loser/wimp/less than a man or just generally a bad thing. In Alistair's case, and any other man that chooses to wait, I think it's much hotter to have a guy that respects a woman and respects the act of lovemaking enough to wait until it's done with someone they truly love. That doesn't mean they only ever leep with ONE woman ever either. My husband slept with women before me, but they were serious relationships and he did love them.  Hell he refused ME the first time I tried to seduce him because it was too soon...rofl, he had me for life right then and there.

It's not a power issue, if it's a continuation of the Awakening bug. It seems to be some lind of a conflict between cores, or at least that makes it worse. Now, this may not be the same thing, but if it is, switching to one core makes things better.

That is very likely to improve your situation rak72.

If it makes the game too slow, try minimizing to desktop and changing the affinity right before battles.

I trie 1 core, then I tried two. Two was the same result as all four, and one was just totally painful. What's affinity?

That's what changing the cores is called--and what that menu is under in the settings. Ah well, I figured it was probably a different bug, but thought it was worth a try.

(By the way, your husband is entirely awesome.)

yea

[*]Alistair: So... this thing you and him have going? Doesn't that violate your vows?

[*]Leliana: What? What kind of question is that to just blurt out? What do we "have going"?

[*]Alistair: Yes, I'm that blind. I so totally did not see you ogling each other before.

[*]Leliana: He was not ogling me. Was he? Was he really ogling me?

[*]Alistair: Now that you say it, I'm not sure. Maybe he wasn't ogling you. I don't know... I could always ask him...

[*]Leliana: You can't do that! Could you? You couldn't do that...

[*]Alistair: I could. But I won't. Next thing you'll have me pulling his hair and passing him love letters.

[*]Leliana: I... just mind your own business. How inappropriate!

notice the difference

[*]Alistair: So what's the deal with you and him, anyway? Dare I ask?

[*]Morrigan: Him? Him who? Is this supposed to mean something to me?

[*]Alistair: You know exactly who I'm talking about. Mister Let's-Make-Kissy-Faces over there.

[*]Morrigan: My, my. You are jealous, aren't you? Did I take your favorite Grey Warden away from you?

[*]Alistair: What? I'm not jealous! I'm horrified.

[*]Morrigan: Those blushing cheeks of yours tell a different tale

[*]Alistair: These blushing cheeks are terrified that you'll suck all the blood out of them once you're done with him.

[*]Morrigan: If I feel the need to suck on anything of yours, Alistair, you'll be the first to know.

[*]Alistair: That... was so not what I meant.

[*]Morrigan: Perhaps we should go and tell him together of your touching concerns? Perhaps he'll pay more attention to you if you ask nicely.

[*]Alistair: Uh-huh. I think we're done here.

[*]Morrigan: Done before you started, in fact.
[*]
[*]anyway besides the males LI, Alistair is prolly the closest thing he has to family.

I might have skipped a step. Apparently I need to change the core in msconfig, THEN run the game tab out and set the affinity in task manager. All I want is my Alistair dangit!!!

You edited while I was replying...lol yeah, he kinda is, thank ya. But we can't tell him that, or his head will get all swollen. I still haven't gotten the swelling down from the time he caught me telling a friend I couldn't have "husband complaint" conversations he was too perfect. Maker help me. He's kinda a Zev/Alistair hybrid, tis a fun life...lol

I've never changed it in msconfig, but I think that's for a different operating system than I use. You do have to start the game and change the affinity, as far as I know, but if you're changing your config file, I would have thought that was automatic on start up. Maybe not, though. I don't use the new windows.

I'm having no problems with my Intel 2.4GHz Quad Core. I have all the DLCs including Witch Hunt, and I'm not getting the problems you are experiencing.  My Quad Core is at least two years old now, and I only have 4 gigs of memory, with an ATI Radeon 5770 1 gig video card all running on Vista 32 bit

Changing affinity:  Start the game. Then alt/tab out, or use the windows button. Go to task manager.. Click the processes tab and look for DAorigins.exe. Right click on it and select "set affinity".. Make sure only CPU 0 has a checked box..

This forces the game to only run on 1 processer.. You can still use max settings for the game...

Edit:  Looks like this was superfulous...sorry, lol

I'm planning on doing that for the friendship, and to get the Landsmeet scene of Alistair making himself king unhindered by the romance. That switch from hardened dialogue to unhardened that allows for the PC to make the decision is a bit weird, and I'd like to see the scene unfold without it.

I was running on 2 cores happily for a long time, then it just stopped working. It's no wonder they've had such a hard time tracking it down, it's highly conditional, and on what is anyone's guess.

It will make me sad if Alistair appears in DA2 and I can't put a bow in his hands.... Which would be the case, of course, given the changes to warriors, but.... Yeah. I like that.

That wouldn't have been my first instinct, but on thinking about it, that was entirely unfair, and really demeans the power of friendship. Glad you mentioned that.

@Inclemency: It wasn't superfluous! I didn't explain it well at all, and there may be others who can use the instructions.

Well, the thing about being dead is it never gets better, whereas people can find ways out of depression/bitterness/PTSD or whatever may be afflicting Alistair in that ending. Also, unless I'm wrong, he only becomes a drunk if Loghain is spared. If the warden dies and he's seen Loghain brought to justice, he wanders, but isn't a drunk. (Is that right, US people?)

And once again I squee over your husband.  Mainly because he's a lot like mine by the sounds.  We raised a lot of eyebrows when I moved to California for him but got my own place.  There are lots of good reasons to take things slowly.

I should interject that Zevran is a gentleman, too.  He is very respectful of others' feelings and wishes in the matter of sex, though he's no pushover when they don't respect him back (like Wynne with her nagging).  His tent scenes, particularly with elves and dwarves, have very sweet moments where he is showing tenderness and adoration to his partner and not just "let's get it on."

Anyway, Alistair!  Does anyone else feel much better about Alistair hanging out in this room with Sten and Dog (like he does after the special scene) than stuck to Eamon's side?  If only we could keep him this way.

It's been a while since I did the US... I think he leaves the Wardens because it didn't feel the same. I don't remember anything about a drunk Alistair in this ending.
