Not necessarily.  A lot of the lower life expectancy is in part b/c so many children died.  If you remove childhood deaths from the equation, average life expectancy gets a lot higher.  Also, keep in mind this isn't a true medieval setting.  Not only are the people involved physically in great shape, they have access to medicine, magic and better overall levels of health, including hygeine, which is a big one.

Alistair's comments on Ferelden cuisine doesn't really point to a decent level of hygeine to me, but if you say so.

Apropos all the crap the two Wardens go through together...  Fort Drakon

Since the first time I lost the Landsmeet vote, I've tossed around writing a piece about the execution of the Wardens in the palace courtyard.  As of now, I've not brought myself to do it.

Gah!  You kow how much I love pain!  Don't give me ideas, Addai!  *whimpers*

I know.  I figured that would grab you.  Posted Image

Twist the knife a little deeper:
- Alistair is executed because he's Anora's rival, but the Warden is spared and imprisoned.  Warden has to say goodbye.

- The Warden is executed as a traitor.  Alistair is spared because you've arranged the marriage to Anora and the nobles want a Theirin.  Alistair has to say goodbye.

I'll just be over here in the corner.  In a little ball.

Wow. This idea really gets me. Mind if I put that on my "Things to write"- list? I love this kind of hopeless angst/tragedy and am a sucker for putting my chars through the hell and back. Yes, I'm weird.

I think that one is a whole lot less plausible because Alistair would do everything he could to stop it.  If it were to happen, I see Alistair choosing to die instead.  I don't know how he could live with himself.

What does Alistair being a bad cook, or lousy food at inns, have to do with hygeine?  Shocking as it may sound, I've spectacularly botched meals, yet I still manage to bathe at least every other day or so.

Eating crap and then bathing doesn't make one hygienic.
What you eat has a great impact on one's health. It's part of hygiene.

*tilts head*  I would argue this, but I won't.  I'm referring to hygeine in the cleanliness sense, as in washing with hot water and soap helps prevent the spread of disease and keeps people healthy.  And I would imagine regular meals, not the equivalent of really bad fast food, would be a lot better for people.

Addai:  I am totally gonna write out that first scenario.  Don't know when, but it will happen.  I hate you.

I think KoP is more refering to improper food preperation, and eating dirty or rotting food.

'cause tis fun to torture the 'stair at times, that's all. *cough* He will get some Lenya time in return. :)

Yeah, granted Alistair would do _anything_ to stop it but if it really IS a scenario where he is indeed unable to do anything? 'Tis AU for sure, but I somehow like this thought. Oh this tasty (survivor) guilt of him *yum* Though the OTHER way around is, of course, as tasty as well.

Umm, yeah as said, I'm a little oddball at times xD

If the Warden tried convince him that it was his duty to be king, or if Riordan told them about the GW problem...

See, I don't think he'd stick around for that.  I honestly cannot see it.  Look at what happens if the Warden dies and leaves him.  How much worse would he fare if it were this scenario?  I honestly think he would seek his death.

Addai:  I can see that argument working if the Warden dies killing the AD.  Not if they're executed by Anora.

Giggles:  Yeah, that would be bad, but nothing about the game indicates to me that that is even a concern.  *shrugs*

Ferelden defnitely has soap, as it's mentioned a few times in the game (by Wynne and as a gift you can give Sigrun).

A story in which Alistair or an LI have to say good-bye before the execution of one or the other will replace the whale in my nightmares.

Speaking of medieval longevity re KoP: Both Averroes and Alhazen lived over 70 years. As a Grecian stated (paraphrasing off the top of my hat): there's no man old enough for not to be able to imagine to live yet another day.

Interestingly, Yarrow Mamout, an American Muslim is said to have lived past 128 years - and he probably had worse diet than those others.

Why do I get the feeling that this is what you would do to Alistair regardless of form?

Well, depending on the form, he wouldn't be sleeping at the foot of my bed ;)

Yes, thank you! The whole survivor guilt angle would be epic, but oh so very cruel :P

@ hollirae: I don't think he's bad-looking. In fact, he was on an episode of The Good Guys were I thought he looked quite cute. Maybe I just have lower standards, haha ;)

Posted Image  You're welcome.

Might I suggest a Cousland?  She could be remembering her own parents, and understanding why her mother refused to save herself.

I really do think the other scenario is plausible as well, though.  If the Warden tried to convince Alistair that he had to stay to be king, and that he was their only chance for a Warden to stay alive and see that the Blight was defeated, he would do it.  He would hate the world, and probably die anyway since he'd never do the DR, but for a few days or weeks he would be in literal hell.

Yeah, the first would almost have to be a Cousland, as she's the only one I can see Anora keeping alive.

As for the second, he would definitely die slaying the archdemon.  That's really the only end I can see for that.  I think a city elf might work nicely in that scenario.

The guy who plays Nigel on Crossing Jordan, is the guy who plays Alistair?

Wierd since I have watched the show before and would never have put that toghther.
