I think he has more of a London working-class accent in Crossing Jordan. For Alistair he did more of a BBC accent. Of course, that makes Alistair...Giggles_Manically wrote...

OK I am still trying to wrap my head around this being the sexy voice of ALISTAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!! Really. No I am going to listen very carefully. Hmmm I wonder if that is going to change my opinion of Alistair??? I guess we will see when I play tonight.
I've seen better pictures of him. I kinda like this one. www.imdb.com/media/rm1946521088/nm0884313
OK now that picture does them both justice!!! I am not saying he is bad looking he is just not who I pictured attached to Alistairs voice.

On the subject of how long people lived: the upper classes if they survived childhood and didn't die in wars didn't die that young. I looked at the life spans of a bunch of medieval kings once and what I found was that they typically died between 45 and 65 if they didn't die of war-related causes or hunting accidents. Some lived into their 70s though it wasn't common. That's not really that far beyond where a Warden's 30 years would take him, though. It's hard to say how magical healing would impact that, but it's worth noting that we meet very few really old characters in the game. Other than perhaps Irving (and Flemeth of course), is there anybody who appears to be over 60?

My point was actually that comparing Fereldan life expectancy or diet to the Medieval era of ours is a moot anyway.
We don't know that much about dwarves or elves or even golems or mages and their longevity or lack thereof for instance.

Speaking of medieval longevity re KoP: Both Averroes and Alhazen lived over 70 years.
They happened to live in what was at the time the most advanced civilisation in terms of medicine. That's not what Ferelden is.
But I forgot why we were arguing about this in the first place, it's not important.

Yeah, there was a great medicine school by the time of Averroes, can't remember whether it was in Baghdad or in Medina. That's why I tossed Yarrow Mamout, a 19th century American in the mix, because you spoke of the diet.
Methinks Alistair speaking of cooking is just a quip aimed at infamous British "cuisine". You know, one of the world's thinnest books: British Gourmet. Asterix in Britain or in the Legion iirc had more of it.
I didn't think a moment we were "arguing" but rather just discussing and jokingly at that.

I don't get it. Why does the fact your parents have been together for over thirty years mean that thirty years isn't a long time?As for 30 years being a long time.... My parents just celebrated their 36th anniversary and have been together for 42 years. In same cases, especially with young Wardens, 30 years isn't very long at all.

Yep, if they were real medieval people, the men would be closer to five feet tall than six, everyone would be missing teeth, and few people would make it past 40.UpiH wrote...

I'm pretty sure it started with people saying it's better to have a fellow Warden LI (not necessarily because Alistair just a fellow Warden over a non-Warden) because it's not fair to the non-Warden that in thirty years you're going to die. I think thirty years is long enough that it's not horribly unfair. It's not like you're getting together knowing you have only a year to live or anything like that.KnightofPhoenix wrote...

Actually, Arl Eamon, at the beginning of the blight, would be about 45 (he was 15 in the stolen throne, which began in Glory 8:99. The blight, according to the bioware folks, begins in dragon 9:30).
By that same aging standard, Loghain is about 50, give or take a couple of years.
Eamon just doesn't seem to be aging as well as his brother (Teagan, by that same standard, would be about 38). Of course, he IS married to screeching-harpy-crazywoman Isolde. That's gotta age you.
Uh...to make this Alistair-thread-worthy, Eamon would have been about 25 I guess when he was handed Al as a baby?

Not sure I agree...what's the tooltip say (not that it's infallible)? I would have guessed they were in their fifties, which is where I tend to place Wynne and Gregoir as well. Loghain fights awfully well for a guy over sixty.

That reminds me of the last line of Blade Runner. "Too bad she won't live, but then again, who does?"

Maybe we should compare the longevity to those of, say Adam, Noah, Metuselah etc. They were well in their 900's, I'm told... So, 30 years is not at all that long a time.
