Wait, why would that be drunkard Alistair?

In one of the epilogue slides it says a drunk pops up in the Free Marshes claiming to have been a prince and a Grey Warden.

... at least that's how I remember it.

Wouldn't it be great if you pick up drunk Alistair as a companion and help him get back on his feet (or off them as the case may be)? My fem!hawke would be all over that!

I would have to do a male warden for that, my girls couldn't send Ali off to be a drunkard.

EDIT:ToP

Alistair is a little concerned about these drunkard rumors. He is worried his harem is going to go on a spare Loghain spree.

I'm kinda glad I still have my accidentally spared Loghain save now.

Well they honestly could have made it better. They could've had Riordan reveal the AD death when you spoke to him at Arl Eamon's estate in Denerim when you asked him about the Grey Wardens. Something along the lines of "Why are the Wardens so important during a Blight" or whatever.

I also believe you should've been able to persuade Alistair when it comes to recruiting Loghain. Maybe even have the option to co-operate with Loghain but NOT make him a Grey Warden. That would've made more sense to me. With the armies the Warden has gathered along with Loghain's army.

Becuase you know, I love Alistair but I like Loghain as well, and being forced to choose between them is a pain. (and if none of this is making sense it's because I'm feverish :()

I also belive that Alistair walking after sparing Loghain is mostly game mechanics. I do think if the warden had a chance to explain it might turn out somewhat different.

I also believe this, especially once they would be able to talk about what Riordan revealed about killing the AD.

I'm going to preface this by saying that I believe multiple interpretations are valid and I'm not trying to attack anyone for having a different viewpoint on Alistair's character. BUT it actually makes perfect sense to me that this is his line in the sand, the one thing he will never get over. I don't think suggesting Loghain kill the archdemon would make it a bit better for Alistair; to him it's an honor to give his life ending the archdemon, and he hates the thought of Loghain redeeming himself in that way.

I really don't think the Landsmeet scene is an artifact of game mechanics. I think in this case the game mechanics work they way they do in order to illustrate something about Alistair's character. He may be goofy and sweet but there's also a lot of damage there, and at the Landsmeet you really see Alistair's most broken side coming out. Loghain destroyed Alistair's surrogate family, and Alistair will never, ever deal with that well, no matter how politically or militarily expedient it would be. The best you can do is force him to live with it, but he'll never really forgive you for that. It is a relationship-killer, and I think it probably should be.

Phaonica posted a clip last week of Alistair and Loghain dialog taken from Return to Ostagar, which confirmed that BW did at some point consider giving you the option of keeping Alistair/Recruiting Loghain. It was cut for some reason? What a shame.

This.

Maker, I was about to write the same but you already have put it perfectly in words. Other than many people here, I love it that he tells you flat out no and nothing can convince him otherwise. I can totally understand the reasons for it, as wonderfully explained above. Also David Gaider said it is intended for him to react like that, it's not OCC for him, nor pure game mechanics. Will Alistair regret it later to have waltzed out like that? Hell sure he will. Will he forgive you for betraying his trust (which it is for him)? I don't see that happening without a long timespan in between, if ever.

I suppose that's possible. But why would Anora be in the Free Marches? Posted Image

Uh, uh. There's this theory that Alistair fangirls are the larval form of Anders fangirls.

Good thing, eventually I will have Alistair for myself. :D

I rejected that hypothesis most vigorously, so you and I will at least have to share him, klara.  Sorry.

Because his mistress had the crows make Anora disappear.

Edit:  but seriously, if he's married to Anora, he dissapears with the mistress, so maybe they took off to the FMs for whatever reason.

I don't disagree in the sense of  "politically or militarily expedient " but in the case of a romance, for the right reasons, if you could explain, I think he could be convinced to not just walk out on the love of his life.

I don't know. I think it would be the opposite, really. You can talk someone around to reluctantly accepting something logically easier than you could get rid of love-poisoning emotions like a feeling of betrayal.

Yep, I see that the same way, Sarah. When feelings are involved, things are a lot more difficult, more complicated. In the case of utter betrayal you are deeply hurt and just too blind for arguments, no matter how logical they even are.

Edit: for word hotchpotch.

I always thought, in Alistair's mind, if the love of his life is allowing his pseudo-father's murder to have the honor of becoming a Grey Warden (which is a great privilage to Alistair) it's like a big slap to the face and a huge wake up call. This isn't the woman he thought he loved, sort of thing. Even if it is perfectly reasonable to want a great general on your side, Alistair's not going to see it that way. To him, it's betrayal.

Just my 2 cents.

This really can be seen from his perspective (as a relationship breaker) if you're a HNF. What if Alistair thought it would be militarily or politically expedient to spare and recruit Arl Howe.  I think my Elea would shield bash him right in the head on her way out the door while calling him every name in and out of the book and telling him just where he could shove the Grey Wardens AND the griffon they rode in on.

I can't count my first HNF, I paid no attention to the origin, never got attached to her, never SAVED past auto saves then decided "Ohhh I can get Loghain? this could be fun...no..no Alistair, wtf where are you...NOOOOOOO!!!"

Alistair: what do you mean 'no we are not going to Redcliffe first'?? Arl Eamon is a good man I swear!

Elea: ARL Howe slaughtered my family, TEYRN Loghain slaughtered Duncan, the wardens and the sodding KING! I am not going anywhere NEAR a noble.
