Ok, I am at work and trying to be brief in my answers and I can see I may not explaining as well I should...but when I say the right reasons I don't mean logic or for the help of a great general, etc... I mean more along the lines of reasons where it may take an detrimental psychological or emotional toll on the warden. If he could be made to see this (and bought it) I just don't think it would be so black and white. I not saying it would absolutly be successful I just thik there could be a chance.

King Alistair could be in the Freemarches searching for his missing wife. He better not cheat on her!

Ughh. I agree with that. But...I kind of like how that was one of the few true things that really made him take action, you know? Like...it wasn't just for the sake of game mechanics, but it worked out well that way. What bothers me is whether it would work or not, you just don't get the chance to explain. Even if it didn't work, and I knew it wouldn't...I dunno I'd still want the opportunity.

I don't know, but it seems to me like it would be kind of a shot in the foot for Bioware if only drunkard Alistair had a cameo. I mean... most people who gave him that ending probably never really liked the character too much, so... why bother wasting resources on this while leaving his real fans empty handed?
And also, the way the actor wrote it... it didn't strike me as 'ok, Alistair will be back, but don't get too excited' but rather 'Alistair will back, and you will love it, but that is all I'm saying cause I'm a horrible tease'.
Over analyzing much?

I also belive that Alistair walking after sparing Loghain is mostly game mechanics. I do think if the warden had a chance to explain it might turn out somewhat different.
I also believe this, especially once they would be able to talk about what Riordan revealed about killing the AD.
I'm going to preface this by saying that I believe multiple interpretations are valid and I'm not trying to attack anyone for having a different viewpoint on Alistair's character. BUT it actually makes perfect sense to me that this is his line in the sand, the one thing he will never get over. I don't think suggesting Loghain kill the archdemon would make it a bit better for Alistair; to him it's an honor to give his life ending the archdemon, and he hates the thought of Loghain redeeming himself in that way.
I really don't think the Landsmeet scene is an artifact of game mechanics. I think in this case the game mechanics work they way they do in order to illustrate something about Alistair's character. He may be goofy and sweet but there's also a lot of damage there, and at the Landsmeet you really see Alistair's most broken side coming out. Loghain destroyed Alistair's surrogate family, and Alistair will never, ever deal with that well, no matter how politically or militarily expedient it would be. The best you can do is force him to live with it, but he'll never really forgive you for that. It is a relationship-killer, and I think it probably should be.

I'll join you in over analyzing. ALL the Awakening slides with romanced alistair have the warden disappearing. With Alistair, or if queen without him. The were working on DA2 even before awakening. i know I personally will be finishing Awakening on EVERYONE now. Even the ones that romanced Zev, "just in case"

@Jess: Good to know. She was fun (to read of) after all. If you hadn't an idea already I'd have probably advised you to write a dialog down. A talk Jaina and him could have to clear things up. It would help, I guess....or not

I just did something I've never done before. I took the party to the entrance of Redcliffe before my PC was in any kind of relationship with Alistair. The conversation encompassed several separate conversations you have if you are in a relationship, or maybe if you are somewhere else, was strange. I got -6 out of the whole thing, too! lol Reload time.

wait ... self portrait? 30 more days? What happened? Did I miss something? Are you ok?
Very striking picture!

For a LI Alistair, I don't think their relationship would be able to continue ... at least not for a long time. But in some endings (hardened & married to Anora), he was able to sort of accept what happened. I no longer have the game saves or screenshots to refer to. But by the coronation, he was at least on speaking terms with the warden. And by Awakening, it seemed like he kinda understood why she spared Loghain. I think he even said he wasn't angry anymore. Or was that just wishful dialog interpretation on my part?
