It doesn't have to be druken Alistair, does it? It could be a sidequest, send someone to King Alistair in Ferelden to ask for his assistance and success would be rewarded by being received by him...

Ok, I am at work and trying to be brief in my answers and I can see I may not explaining as well I should...but when I say the right reasons I don't mean logic or for the help of a great general, etc... I mean more along the lines of reasons where it may take an detrimental psychological or emotional toll on the warden. If he could be made to see this (and bought it) I just don't think it would be so black and white. I not saying it would absolutly be successful I just thik there could be a chance.

Ughh. I agree with that. But...I kind of like how that was one of the few true things that really made him take action, you know? Like...it wasn't just for the sake of game mechanics, but it worked out well that way. What bothers me is whether it would work or not, you just don't get the chance to explain. Even if it didn't work, and I knew it wouldn't...I dunno I'd still want the opportunity.

That...would actually make the awakening ending make sense. I may actually be inspired to finally play through it on my HNF. Eventually. She's in Lothering at the moment.

Yes. I do think at the very least you could convince him to let you try to explain. Lol, I don't know why I am arguing this I never spare Loghain, so my wardens don't have any issues.

*Trying to convince myself that this is good news*

I don't know, but it seems to me like it would be kind of a shot in the foot for Bioware if only drunkard Alistair had a cameo. I mean... most people who gave him that ending probably never really liked the character too much, so... why bother wasting resources on this while leaving his real fans empty handed?

And also, the way the actor wrote it... it didn't strike me as 'ok, Alistair will be back, but don't get too excited' but rather 'Alistair will back, and you will love it, but that is all I'm saying cause I'm a horrible tease'.

Over analyzing much? :)

No, finishing the urn, then taking a break to figure things out with her. I have an idea thanks to the special scenes from Cme's mod. We shall see.

I'll join you in over analyzing. ALL the Awakening slides with romanced alistair have the warden disappearing. With Alistair, or if queen without him. The were working on DA2 even before awakening. i know I personally will be finishing Awakening on EVERYONE now. Even the ones that romanced Zev, "just in case"

I also belive that Alistair walking after sparing Loghain is mostly game mechanics. I do think if the warden had a chance to explain it might turn out somewhat different.

I also believe this, especially once they would be able to talk about what Riordan revealed about killing the AD.

I'm going to preface this by saying that I believe multiple interpretations are valid and I'm not trying to attack anyone for having a different viewpoint on Alistair's character. BUT it actually makes perfect sense to me that this is his line in the sand, the one thing he will never get over. I don't think suggesting Loghain kill the archdemon would make it a bit better for Alistair; to him it's an honor to give his life ending the archdemon, and he hates the thought of Loghain redeeming himself in that way.

I really don't think the Landsmeet scene is an artifact of game mechanics. I think in this case the game mechanics work they way they do in order to illustrate something about Alistair's character. He may be goofy and sweet but there's also a lot of damage there, and at the Landsmeet you really see Alistair's most broken side coming out. Loghain destroyed Alistair's surrogate family, and Alistair will never, ever deal with that well, no matter how politically or militarily expedient it would be. The best you can do is force him to live with it, but he'll never really forgive you for that. It is a relationship-killer, and I think it probably should be.

For a LI Alistair, I don't think their relationship would be able to continue ... at least not for a long time.  But in some endings (hardened & married to Anora), he was able to sort of accept what happened.  I no longer have the game saves or screenshots to refer to.  But by the coronation, he was at least on speaking terms with the warden.  And by Awakening, it seemed like he kinda understood why she spared Loghain.  I think he even said he wasn't angry anymore.  Or was that just wishful dialog interpretation on my part?

So yeah, I still wish they had been able to sit down and talk about it right after LM.  I don't really think it was just game mechanics though.  Alistair couldn't handle her decision and then he was gone.  With the preparations to leave to fight the blight, everything went into fast motion.  There was no time opportunity to go after him.  Based on the scenario above, I think if he had the time to cool down a little, he might have agreed not to leave completely.  But based on the video we saw, that did not mean he was going to suddenly get over his anger and be cordial to Loghain.  He still looked extremely angry there.

I don't think it's overanalyzing.  I was just saying the same thing.  But we shall have to wait and see.

And if it's just a cameo, there is absolutely zero reason not to have all possible endings.

Hello and welcome to the thread *waves*

It makes me squee every time as well. BUT in cases of an US and leaving Alistair at the gates I'm reduced to a sea of tears at that point. :crying:

@Jess: Good to know. She was fun (to read of) after all. If you hadn't an idea already I'd have probably advised you to write a dialog down. A talk Jaina and him could have to clear things up. It would help, I guess....or not

I just did something I've never done before. I took the party to the entrance of Redcliffe before my PC was in any kind of relationship with Alistair. The conversation encompassed several separate conversations you have if you are in a relationship, or maybe if you are somewhere else, was strange. I got -6 out of the whole thing, too! lol Reload time.

Sorry if this has been discussed before but has anyone NOT taken Alistair to Redcliffe the first time? So you don't find out about his background until Eamon wakes up mentions making him king? I haven't tried that path cause honestly it's never occured to me to NOT take Alistair everywhere heh.

It's why I've been writing my fanfic, there's certain things that felt a little limited in spots, but I know when designing a game there's only so much they can put into it. Of all the various computer games I've played over the years (including NWN) I've never desired to write fanfic before. For my RP characters in RPG with other friends yes, but not a computer game.

So there's mad props for BW for coming up with a story compelling enough to make me want to write how I saw things from my character's PoV.

One of these days I'll finish a playthrough on a character other than my HNF and it would be interesting to see how things go that way. But my Cousland could never spare Loghain (Like another poster said, I didn't pay too much attention with my warden and the origin before realizing the major impact of Howe, that version didn't stay around long) because of him siding with the murderer of her family. And Riordan failed spectacularly to sell at saving Loghain.

Did anyone else who played an HN see red when they chose the dialogue option with Howe at Denerim that prompted , "Your parents died on their knees. Your brother's corpse rots in Ostagar. His brat's body was burned on a scrapheap next to his Antivan w*** of a wife,"?

Because I was absolutely furious.

Edited because apparently a word used in the game can't be posted on the board. :D

Heh, I love his answer to the idiot line :D Also starting the romance with 'the prince thing is thrilling' line was most remarkable for me, because my CE didn't know that he would react that way. Nor did I even know at that time that it was a romance starter, so I looked equally confused like her, as he responded with a flirty "yeeees" the next time I clicked on him.

My CE got stealth-romanced by ninja Alistair

It could be an Awakenings-esque cameo, and it could be taking place during the Blight (Origins), or it could be King Alistair if you chose to name him king. IDK if drunk Alistair or post-Origins Grey Warden Alistair would be making an appearance...

Then again, it doesn't matter in my game because I have Dead Alistair.
