Oh yes this would be indeed the horror for him. Overkill would be the combination with marrying Anora, no doubt. I think Loghain doing the deed to save his ex and him finding out would, in fact, make him hate his life more.

They can't because the Landsmeet won't allow it.  You can even try and Alistair will say "i don't think they'll let anyone of noble blood take the throne".  Notice he never suggests the HNF should do it - she has to take her own initiative.

What reason does Alistair give for breaking up with a Warden of any race?  Because he'll have to marry someone he can have children with, and who will live long enough to raise those children.  It has nothing to do with her race - human, elf, or otherwise.  If it was merely a Landsmeet issue, he would likely not break up with the HNF.  He'll even ask if she wants to stay with him a post-tenting conversation if they can't have kids together.  That's his big concern.  King Alistair would probably otherwise at least try to make it work with an elf.

You know, on the flip side, would Fiona want Alistair to know? Would it depend on if she met him? Or his emotional/mental state at the time?

In the Calling she never wants him to know and insists that he be told she's a dead human and if he's King I can see her not wanting anything (like her) threatening his rule so probably not. She'd have to be convinced that he needed to know. Maybe if she watches him keep getting shot down as he tries to form a relationship with Goldanna? It would definitely be more likely for her to tell him if he's not King, I'd think.

I imagine she'd be very nervous about letting him know, to say the least.  In my future fic, she'll have kept it secret even though they're in proximity.  He'll find out a bit by accident.

Exactly. So, it stands to reason that race is a factor in his breaking-up with elven/dwarven Wardens. Or, at least, that's how I see it. I think I'm being overly pedantic.

lol Err, glad that you understood what I meant because that quote was supposed to say "NOT of noble blood".  Phew, should proof-read more before I post. 

As far as the dwarf goes, like Sarah said, she's not human and therefor not acceptable to the Landsmeet, though I would suspect they would put a dwarf on the throne before an elf.  At the same time, though. Ferelden is a human country that would probably prefer humans on the throne (elves behind second-class citizens for the most part).

On the other hand, I could possibly maybe see a political marriage to an Aeducan for treaty purposes.  It wouldn't be widly outside the realms of possibility to me.

It's just too poignant for it not to happen somehow.  That's my meta opinion. 

As for whether she would voluntarily tell him, she might do so.  People change.  As she gets older, the desire to meet him/ disclose her past might get the best of her.

Re: The Landsmeet. Yeah it's partially about race. At least to the rest of them. To Alistair it's all about whether or not he can have children. And that's my two cents.

Right, that's the point I've been trying to make. 

Ah, that makes sense. I was operating without full information. Then again, I always have my HFN announce she's going to marry Alistair, to which he quickly responds, "Good choice."...so, that's probably why Well, that and the fact that dwarven nobles aren't allowed to force the issue at the Landsmeet. Thank you both for clarifying things for me

IDK, I think he would still break up with a NHNF, even if everyone could have kids - the landsmeet wouldn't approve her as queen, so he would need to go out and find a suitable queen, then have babies w/ her. In our alternate DSC universe, I don't think we would have been looking at Queen Liliana.
