Given that he had three children, he was hardly 'shooting blanks.' He may not have been particularly fertile but he could still reproduce. Three times.He was also very fat, greedy, had a daddy cannon that shot blanks, smelt bad, and was not an overly nice person.
Nobles were known to get people to impregnate their wives to produce heirs.
Also his wives/mistresses could have done it themselves, what with him killing or imprisoning them left and right.
It's only with the rise of modern medicine that infant mortality dosent claim most children's lives early on.
Than again there were a few Egyptian Pharos who had somewhere around 60-70 offspring with their wives and mistresses its rumored.
Maybe the famous English weather contributes to this?
