I think she is referring to the fact that Alistair wouldn't be hardened.

Yes.

Yeah, not a Leliana bash folks, for the record I agree with you yankee.  They both require the warden to say hey, toughen up. But yeah, we should move on to something else.

Crap top.

It got tense in here.  Except for the few really nasty characters in the game that are meant to be hated, I don't hate any of them.  I think each character has wonderful qualities that will attract some of us and each also has his or her weak points that will push buttons on some people and that results in these very heated conversations.  David Gaider is probably cackling with glee over our arguments.  They are all wonderfully written.  I wasn't a big fan of Leliana at first, but she's grown on me as I got to know her better.  I adore Alistair, but I can see that he has some qualities that will irritate some people.  I hate what Loghain did, but I think he's a fascinating character.

Personally, I think it's great that they gave us such a wonderful collection of personalities.  And ack, I'm late and running out the door, so I don't have time to reread this to  make sure I'm making sense.  =]

Personally, I like a character that you don't really like on first glance but grows on you more than the other way around....like Wynne. Leliana has always been like the best friend I wish I had.

The hardening discussions have probably been done to death too, but I'm still waffling a little bit. It seems like hardening Alistair is the right thing to do, but I'm doing a playthrough with a hardened Alistair now, and it's just... well, it seems lacking compared to the unhardened romance. Or maybe I just triggered some of the important convos too early and I'm imagining that it's a hardened/unhardened difference.

As for Leliana, I'm not sure I see any reason to convince her that she really is like Marjolaine. Firstly I don't think it's true, and secondly, we already know that she has the steel to do what needs to be done in a clinch -- she escaped Marjolaine after all. What's the argument for hardening her?

I agree that there is no reasn to convince her that she is like Marjolaine. It's really fortunate that that's not actually what you tell her when hardening her.

Edit: And one reason to harden her? Unhardened she is the kind of person to commit suicide when her lover US. Hardened, she isn't. I know that if you don't romance her at all then there's no risk of suicide over your death but I'm just not comfortable with leaving her that fragile and dependent.

Well, I am actually one of the few who doesn't harden Alistair every time. I like his unhardened romance lines, it really depends on the character I'm playing.

I like both those characters too! Wynne had me forever with the griffons story. Yes, her lecture on your love life is irritating, but she apologizes for that. I thought it made her more realistic, and endearing in a way: she makes a mistake and acknowledges it.

I would love to go shoe-shopping with Leliana in real life. After all, the fashion advice Leli gives out to other party members is really quite good. Morrigan would look stunning in a wine-colored velvet gown with a plunging neckline.

I like to think Leliana will be the wedding planner for Alistair and my Princess CousCous, provided I can actually grit my teeth and go through with the DR when the time comes...

I hate it too, mostly since Alistair is the one who always does it, and just his whole look is so sad.
I did want to kill Morrigan because of Alistair sleeping with him on my City Elf PC. Damn was she possesive.

I did like that line "he's an idiot but he is MY idiot", totally fit her.

Omg, me too.  I hit the Escape key as soon as possible, as I just don't want to see anything!

Someone wrote a story (and I cannot recall who, I"m so sorry to say) about that being the way Alistair loses his virginity.  As he and the warden were in love, that premise was SO heartbreaking.   Can you imagine?

Try playing a Blood Mage who romances Zevran and see if you like her as much.

Hm I think people misunderstood me. I should've given an example for a character I didn't like at first but like now as well. Ok, I didn't like Ohgren at first but he grew on me. Wynne on the other hand, I had no problems with at first but now I detest her and want to set her on fire every time she comes with her hypocrite morale convo. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

And I agree Cmessaz, I hate doing the DR every time. It's just ugh. Plus I hate the conversation with Morrigan beforehand.

If you e.g. make Alistair king she mentions something like "How do you think Alistair will feel after losing his love?"

If you don't make him king, it's the generic "Oh he will go ahead and do it and be the hero, Maric's son and all and you will be forgotten."

Yes Morrigan, me being forgotten I'm sure is what's on Alistair's mind...

I mean she does mention "How do you think Zevran/Leliana will feel if you kill the AD". Why assume that everyone will make Alistair king and leave blanks for those who don't?

@Aeowyn, the dialouge is very bugged in that stage of the game.

Also her agruments for Loghain are even worse:

He will become the real hero, and you a footnote!

Wow she really thinks I am in this for glory?

Plus she seems to severely underestimate the potential that Wardens in it for the glory have to totally claim most of the credit since you're alive and he's not...credit which Alistair/Anora give to you either way.

Yeah, when your choices are kill yourself, kill Alistair (which I know for some they don't care) but since this IS the Alistair thread I bet most of us don't want to kill off our char's LI, or have Alistair dump you on your butt if you allow Loghain to live then let Loghain die. Honestly, I don't care about Loghain dying, but I do care about Alistair dumping my Warden.

Since my Warden wants to live to spend what life she has with the man she loves, she rips her own heart to pieces to have Alistair do the DR.

On a sidenote, I did watch the DR cutscene once, poor Alistair looks sickened and terrified (and that's even after I had him hardened with his quest). They don't show the act, the scene goes dark. I feel even badly after that, but figure they can make up for it later.
