For me "free will" means something like the exercise of my will in the absence of any external pressure. For you "free will" obviously means that pressure can be applied but the will is still free.
For me "a mutually beneficial arrangement" is an arrangement that produces gains for us both (and I don't consider not dying to be a gain, it's simply not a loss) not an arrangement that means if I don't agree to it I will loose everything and you get a gain.
It would make her a slightly worse person, but offering to save you for gain does not make her a "good" person.
You find some strange things "highly insulting", like other people's opinions?
Yes but Morrie isn't being coerced by Ali to have sex, and if she were, more of us would be up in arms about it... (Suppose the DR involved a male character putting pressure on a female character?) She is actually exercising the free will she is denying Ali.
For the record I have never said it was rape, my point has always been that it is arguable that it could be...
I find the concept of the DR being rape as, well, interesting I suppose. It isn't rape. Morrigan is not the one who is going to kill the wardens -- she lets them know of a way they don't have to die. It involves sex with her, but it isn't coercion. She cannot do the ritual without a male warden -- it is up to the male warden whether to participate or not. If you talk Alistair into it, it still isn't coercion. This IS the way both wardens can live; Alistair is given that information and makes a choice depending on how important he feels it is.
He may not feel it's the best thing to do, but he IS making a choice to have sex with morrigan. Now, if Morrigan were the one who actually had the power of life or death with no strings, then yeh, I could see it.
Someone I know was raped recently, and it was date rape, and it was coercion. You just can't compare the situations. Alistair can (and is some situations, WILL) say no. His main concern seems to be that it's blood magic.
I can see why someone would find the comparison of the DR to rape insulting. Possibly even traumatic.
Edit: There is just such a huge difference between, "If you have sex with me, the two of you can live," and, "I will kill you if you don't have sex with me." Morrigan does not do the latter. If anyone is doing any coercing, I suppose it would be the warden, but I still would not say that's anything like rape. You don't have to use persuasion checks, and he doesn't even have to like the warden. The choice is ultimately up to him.
