It's not the dialogue, it's the whole idea that in one conversation Alistair changes his orientation to life based on something my PC says. That is... ridiculous. I know the Warden is god almighty, but like I said, I think the whole experience of the Blight is a hardening one so I just ignore it. I'm not sure about Leliana, it seems a different setup for her but since I don't pay attention to her character anyway, can't really compare the two.tuppence95 wrote...

I dislike the whole idea of hardening, and think the whole experience of losing the Wardens and fighting the Blight would harden Alistair naturally with or without my PC and her reaction to Goldanna. So I always harden him and just ignore the game mechanic.Riona45 wrote...

To be honest I dislike the "hardening" option--or, more specifically, if I had said the line that you have to say it would have been completely out of character for my (mage) PC.
I just made Anora the queen and Alistair stayed with me--perfect ending IMO.
cmessaz's mod helps me rp the hardening process. The dialog choices are much better for my warden!

I agree.
What's worse, if you back out of hardening Alistair at the last moment by telling him "no, I didn't mean it that way" during the conversation in camp, all the thinking Alistair had done is thrown out the window just because the PC told him to. Ridiculous.
I can offer some input on the Leli hardening process. It's a little less ridiculous, seeing how the hardening convo occurs after she has an emotional crisis. It's a more feasible situation seeing how people seek their friends for advice when faced with such a crisis, but it's still ridiculous, as once again you're defining the personality of a character by simply saying a different line.
I've always thought that a good alternative to the hardening process is to have a bunch of separate "hardening" or "life changing" lines on every single conversation you have with a character. Maybe after a few of those were chosen, the character could come up to you with an optional conversation telling you how what you have been saying has influenced them.
The events that occur through the game combined with the decisions the PC made, should also play a small part in this. And it could go both ways, hardening or softening a character.

Yep it has been done before in a Bioware game, so I found it a pity that this opportunity has been missed here. In Jade empire you have different conversations with Sky (The LI, if you choose so) and you can actually change his way of thinking too, but that happens in several conversations not in just one.(as far I can recall) In telling him your opinions you can actually lure him into the "way of the closed fist/ evil- side."Zjarcal wrote...

I haven't played Jade Empire yet but that sounds great. Although from what I've heard, I would be more into Silk Fox...

Everyone: Holy crap, it's an ogre!
Alistair: *still looking for barbarians*

Being a dwarf can be incredibly awkward... or awesome, depending on how you feel about such things. Sometimes you can't look away, though.

ROFL! You catch the best moments! I think that's my favorite challenge in the game, hitting that screen cap button at JUST the right moment to catch JUST the right action. I give you 10 stars Yuki, tis truly a talent you have!
