I have all sorts of mods, everything from Circles Be Gone to 1 second Cooldowns. Armour, headmorphs, weapons, stuff for the toolset; but, everything is neatly in its own folder, which I'm profoundly thankful for. When I started, my override was turning into a mess of files.

Is my Alistair better now with Alistair hair rather than Cailan hair?

I've never had a problem with the Cailan hair, but I like the Alistair hair too.  But is there something a little odd about his mouth or chin?

I honestly didn't mean to imply that what mods people used were broken, just that the official stuff is just as broken, if it is.

Quite frankly I can't stand the appearance of the helms, so I generally don't bother.

I use the No Helmet Hack.

I take it that our driveby thinks DA is one of those mad teh lootz!!1!! type of games.  Whereas I play for story primarily so my mods are chosen on that basis.

now that would be funny to see.

The way i see it all games have cheats of sorts. Wether its walk thru's ,guides,hacks,addon's,mods,etc.. It's if a person chooses to use them or not. Some don't like them . Some (like me) like to enhance their game to it's full potential.

If you're not using any mods that change the characteristics of gear (like one that changes light armor to be based on Dex vs Str) the No Helmet Hack is wonderful for removing those unsightly helms from view.  If you're interested, you can grab it here.

As for mods in general, I have a few, two of which would be frowned upon by the elitist police.

One is the AIS Emporium which if abused can seriously affect the game because it's a vendor that offers unlimited quantities of just about everything you can find in the game.  I use it for pots because I like playing on Nightmare but hate having the need for pots and/or healing dictate who's in my party or the order I visit certain locations.

The other is Random Age which adds random mobs to various fights (and even a few in places you don't normally find enemies).  It also adds randomly enhanced (or not) drops to many of the kills, giving you some variety in loot.  Both of these things have made a game that I have been playing repeatedly for the past nine months much more enjoyable because it's now less predictable.  Another cool thing about Random Age is that it's highly configurable.  You can set it to not drop any extra loot (or set the drop rate to rare), set it to not spawn extra enemies (if you're just wanting to find cool loot and don't want to kill more to get it), or even set the difficulty level to make the game more challenging (for those looking for a Nightmare + experience).

@inclemency - much improved, imho. I never liked Cailan's hair on him... I wasn't interested in his brother, after all. LOL And I love your new Avatar! I use that hairstyle a lot when I play a HNF because it's very close to the way I used to wear *my* hair.

Hmm...I like vanilla Alistair but for some reason I think your modded Ali looks better with the Cailan hair. I think it works better with shape of the face.

To me, not odd, he doesn't have the whole Cailan mouth, which I just hate.  He has a top lip

@yankee, I think I agree with you, Cailan hair might be going back, but never the Cailan mouth.

Me too but I do have so much mod equipment that I've bumped it up to Hard lately, just so it continues to feel like the same game.  But really combat is beside the point for me.

Not a wimp!  Honestly, DA is the first game I have ever played on anything other than easy.  I just started trying different levels to see if I could do it and I found it quite enjoyable.  But if you like your playing style don't change it... the whole idea is to have fun, after all.

And just to keep on topic...

The look that still makes me melt

Hehe! That's alright. A lot of people here do the same, nothing wrong with that. If I sometimes want to test a scenario or something I also lower the difficulty if I know there will be some fighting ahead.

As for actual playthroughs, I admit I'm a bit of a sucker for challenges so I do play on Nightmare and usually impose myself some restrictions. For instance, in my current game I'm going for zero injuries on all party members. I'm already at the Landsmeet so it's almost done, but god was it annoying when I was almost done with the Cauthrien fight and Zevran had to get himself killed. RELOAD!

I actually just finished my first Nightmare run with zero injuries yesterday.  Granted, I was using the mods mentioned my post a few mins ago, so I can't claim to be an uber player but boy did it feel good!

Well I am also using modded equipment and the Extra Dog Slot mod, so I guess no uber claims from me either. But it sure feels good and it helps keep immersion. I HATE watching my party members fall in battle.

If I ever want to go crazy I'll try doing a nightmare run with stock equipment (and by stock I mean equipment with zero stat benefits) and zero injuries. That should be fun!

@Lady Jess: Ditto! I like creating looks for my characters. Right now my mage is wearing a hsli sexy mage robe called the "Unlucky One" (with a bra >.>),to me it looks kind of tribal and I'm going with her being partially blind so she wears stuff with bright colors and rich textures. My warrior is wearing the phoenix battlemaiden set.

Yeah my cousland has changed looks since meeting Sten, she started off like this...all nice and proper warrior looking. Though her hair was a mess. Ya know, woken up my murderous thugs, no time!

Now she's met Sten, he disliked the hair being undisciplined...and thought her rather stupid for being recognizable with a bounty on her head thus...

Oh and her hair...

Then you'd love the Skip the Fade mod. I have that one too, but don't consider it a cheat... just removing the least enjoyable part of the game for me.

I remember the first time I played DAO and found out you were expected to run around with party members, I was like "Yuck!  I don't want a bunch of NPC's gettin' in my way!"  Then, by the time I got to the Fade, I was completely bummed that I had to go it alone!  Funny how quickly I'd fallen in love with having my companions at my side.

I would do skip the fade but im right in the middle of it right now on my mage.

@Lady Jess: How do you change your looks?? My gal just has striking blonde curls right now. Your gal looks awesome in her armor. My hnf is wearing a simple ponytail

I've been looking at vanilla Alistair for so long now!  It's like seeing someone you know well who has recently had plastic surgery or cosmetic dental work done.  Until you get used to it, they just look odd.

I've got tons of mods, but I don't always use all of them.  If I'm really committed to playing a character from start to finish, I try to play her without any mods that boost her stats too much so that I get the full experience.  But if I'm experimenting and trying different paths just out of curiosity, I'll use major cheating mods.  I'm also much more interesting in the story and not as interesting in the combat.  So I'll cheat my way through a playthrough with a character that I don't care as much about.

I understand about vanilla Alistair...I've been playing this morph for so long that, to me, it's normal. I only play vanilla Alistair if my character is male, or not romancing him. Makes it much easier to resist!

@Yankee...Lol, of course I do.  Think it's break time if I'm making those kinds of mistakes!   :)

In general I like the "vanilla" Alistair appearance (as if there's anything vanilla about him), I'd prefer slightly longer hair on him, but not the Cailan look. And I'm probably weird, but I like the way his mouth is, just makes him seem manlier. Silly, I know.
