Erm, aside from maybe his appearance, it has been stated many times by Gaider and other devs that the whole older, gruff, worldly Alistair was dumped and completely rewritten. I don't really get how you can still think he is 32, when it has been stated that he is younger and that the character in the toolset description isn't really the one in the game. I am not saying you can't imagine him being in his 30s, but the toolset info is not relevant or correct in terms of the Alistair in the game. Granted, it *may* be possible they left his face the same or similar, but aside from that I don't really see how the toolset info is relevant to his current, final in game version.

AListair is always 21-23 when I play him.

Times were difficult in the middle ages....everyone looked older than their ages.

Uhh..erm....due to the many changes and tweaks during production, (things usually work that way), I happen to like their first version, and I am not saying I "believe" or "imagine" just take comfort in the fact that that was the initial intention and enjoy knowing it and playing it.

And that is the beauty of this game. We can play it how we want to play it. And that is a very rare thing when it comes to games. :wizard:

Boy I seem to be on the wrong side of the fence on all topics today!

A) I like playing with my dark haired Alistair and although I truly find the vanilla Alistair delightful, my dark haired one is much sexier, imho.

B) I like to think of Alistair as older because I my Warden is always "mature" and she's not about to rob the cradle, no matter how many puppy dog eyes Alistair gives her.

Alls I'm saying is that there's a difference between personal preference and what is actually in the game >.> Not saying you can't choose to play however you want, but that outside of an individual's RP and in game canon separated from preference, he's not in his 30s.

Anyway, pew pew mind bullets

That's totally true. I thought about it a bit, Some 21 yr olds can look 17 or younger.(I don't think anyone mentioned that angle just yet) If they would have created that kind of 21 year old, including voice.. I'm not sure I would have felt I could romance him. More like what Addai said..sort of like cradle robbing.
But you're right...the range is wide enough in the way they designed the game to really make most people happy, and I really love that aspect about the game.

Edit:
I'm not talking about the story timeline. Only the general impression the character makes or would have made both visually and audibly

How old do you consider your wardens? I mean the storylines basically put them in the early to mid 20's if not younger, so how would a 25ish Alistair be "robbing the cradle"? That's the part I don't understand when this topic comes up.

For example, Dwarf commoner, can't be older than 22 and still be Rica's YOUNGER sister.

City Elf, Shianni is 18 Soris is 20, ad you're all supposedly close in age, and your marriage was just arranged so you're 20 or 19 somewhere in there. And your father is 40, your mother died when you were "young" so 19/20/21 seems to fit best here

DN: Bhelen is your younger brother, at 21 Trian is your older brother at 25 so your pc can't really be older than 24

HN: well it's all screwy because apparently your parents were 10 when Fergus was born since they're listed at 40 and Fergus at 30. Whoops!

Mage: Jowan is 20, nd you've been friends since you arrived, there's obviously more leeway in this origin than others.

Dalish lists Tamlen as 20, and Ashalle, the woman who raised you from birth as 45. Which, seems as if again, the PC is 20-25.

So even if at most your PC can be 25, and Alistair is around 23-25 it's not exactly cradle robbing behaviour.

Not only that, but the HN parents fought in the rebellion against the Orlesians. Bryce and Howe being some of the few to survive the Battle of White River. So not only were they 10, they were total prodegies at war. :bandit:

LOL  Obviously they're older.  They look older in-game, too.  I'd put them in their 50s.

I bet this is a portrait of Bryce during or just after the rebellion.  Hot!  And it looks like he might have long hair here?  :o:devil:<3  Yay incest.  LOL

@Lady Jess -- My first Origin was Dalish and it's the one I play the most. Since I never saw a reference to ages I always assumed that although no longer immortal, the elves live longer than humans. So... using that as my premise, it wasn't difficult for me to RP an elf in her 30's.

As for the rest of the origins, again, I never saw a reference to ages (or remembered them if they were present) so for all but the HN, again, I don't see why Rica can't be in her 30's (time's running out for her to catch a noble's eye, remember), again the longevity thing with the CE's and I could easily have younger friend's in the Tower although Jowen doesn't feel like he's only 20 to me (but again, I've never seen a reference to age.

I looked up Rica's in the toolset when I created my Brosca, same with Shianni, Tamlen, Couslands, etc. The only ones that were out of whack in the toolset are the Couslands and Alistair (32, that means twenty years in the chantry, training as a templar without taking vows...just not plausible given their controlling and demanding nature)

You can play your character as old or young as you want. There's no one really stopping anyone from doing so. I just don't see why the age a player perceives their character to be should be indicative of the age of an NPC despite what the devs have confirmed.

I dunno. Alistair does sound and look more "mature", but I guess because I am in my early 20s and surrounded by people aound my age at uni and at home who sound and look much older (or younger) than they are, that's not really a good indicator of age for me.

I'm surrounded by soldiers varying in ages from 18-38 and there are some in the 30's that act like 18, and some of the 18-20's that are mature enough to be in their 30's. Mine is 36 and alternates between little kid and old man...lol

Oh of course they're older, I was just amused. Besides, I always figured my HNF was kind of an unexpected gift considering the difference in age between Fergus and her. :D

Quite frankly I can't stand the appearance of the helms, so I generally don't bother.

Well, they're better than the mage cowls, which are uniformly awful.

I was a little worried that Alistar and Morrigan's snarky banter might cover a simmering attraction, so I made her wear an enchanter's cowl. Problem solved! Nobody could ever want a woman in that hat.

The first time I stuck one of those mage cowls on a character I was very much flabbergasted.

And what's even fuglier is the pea green mage robe you get from WH. Oh. My. Goodness.

Ya know, I wish you COULD hook him up with someone. My CEF is no way no how going to fall in love with a human and have (she doesn't know about the taint thing) human babies. My Dalish didn't care, she was part of a new clan as a warden and her life as a Clan Dalish was over, and at this point she knows about the taint thing. But Eilis...she's different. But I hate that Alistair will be lonely.

You may find it hard to avoid his romance, there is a starter in almost every conversation.
Its annoying as hell its like Bioware forces him on the warden.

Lol.

PC: Alistair let's go.
Alistair: Where?
PC: The Pearl.
A: What...why are you going there? And why do I have to come with you?
PC: Because this is a Blight and you're alone and I refuse to let you die a virgin. Now we will pick you a nice lady and she can show you her moves.
A: But.....I don't want to.
PC: Sorry, not your call. I am hooking up with Zevran/Leliana and I can't stand seeing you alone. You. The Pearl. Sex.

Well, it doesn't really matter if you can see it or not. He looks older, he sounds older, and if I prefer to think of him that way, I will do so. To me, the game doesn't work as well if he's very young, story, looks, or voice, and I don't find either the romance, or his lact of confidence as powerful, if his lack of experience wigh both is perfectly normal for his age. I can either take the story as odd, or the timeline, and I prefer to go with the timeline as having problems.

Obviously, that's my take, and not the feeling of the majority, but does this have to be a 'boy, you're stupid if you think that' kind of thing? There are points on both sides, so do we really have to go there?

Noone even came close to saying that.  Some of us just can't SEE it that way, and don't understand it (the cradle robbing thing for me). Personally, I'll never EVER play this game as "older" ANYTHING. I am 36 years old in real life, ith kids, husband and big fat responsibilities, so I refuse to be a middle aged warden in my fantasy world...lol

Just because we can't understand it, doesn't equal "anyone else is stupid". And believe me, if Yuki wanted to say it, she absolutely would flat out say it...lol:O

I would find any 30 year-old man that naive, inexperienced and so low down the totem pole of his own life to be profoundly unappealing. He's still an initiate, he's still immature, he's Duncan's grunt boy. If he were actually supposed to be 30, that would make him the video game equivalent of that thirtysomething guy who lives in his parent's basement and works at the McDonald's drive though. Only really, really handsome.
