About the axemeter encounter, I've only seen it once. The odds appear to be higher if you're traveling through the Brecilian Forest.

I'm not sure if having Loghain in the party helps, but he was with me when I got it.

LOL Like a lucky rabbit's foot?

Oh blast, and no new smut for me, either.  Have to dip into dA recycles.

You know, my first like 3 playthroughs were melee. I was sort of afraid to play a mage, but it is really a lot of fun. I don't hate the mage origin, it's surrounded by suck, but it leaves a lot of room for RP. And it really is run to play a mage in this game. At least for me.

I'm not sure why I have so many problems with playing a mage. My main characters in WoW (which playwise is fairly similar) was a elemental shaman, mage, and shadow priest. Granted my other two mains were tanks: paladin and death knight. But for some reason I just have a hard time getting into playing a mage in DA.

Friendly fire messes me up a lot with mages.  I'm always damaging my own companions, except when I play on Easy.  But the first time I saw the effects of Mana Clash, I was sold.  Wow, it was instant kill on the enemy mages!  I love that spell.

I find it really hard to play anything else these days.  When I went back to my rogue HNF after playing a few mage pt's, I thought, "I've got to stab all these guys?  Can't I just blow them up?"

I got one to, don't remember what level. I just finished the mage tower, so around 8? 10? I kept getting annoyed at having to swap to other characters to do thinks like pick locks and disable traps. I know people said they do it automatically, but I've never gotten them to do so, nor find the option in tactics.

And well, I'm just blood thirsty. I enjoy stabbing things in DA, especially when I get a finishing move. :D

Omg, the day has gone by so fast. I made no progress today. My party went from after killing the bandits in Lothering to the bridge in the middle of town today. Lol

Photobucket still limiting me for a day or two more, so repost of only applicable Thursday shot available

So, friendly fire is something to strive for?  Well, I can see Morrigan thinking it was a fun thing to do.  In my current game, I had to take away her fireball spell in the tactics window.  The rest of the party spent too much time in flames.

Thanks for the link, cmessaz!  I'll check that out.  And oh, too bad about mana clash crashing you.  :(

I went overboard with this backpack space cheat.  My Cousland girl now has a 900-item backpack.  She'd better work on those arm and back muscles!

We've racked up an ungodly amount of hours between the two of us and never seen it.

I don't feel as bad then.

I just noticed that I have no pictures of any of the origin specifics other than HN and Dwarf Commoner now (thanks yuki) on my Bioware project page. Since I lost my hard drive I don't have any of my own, so if anyone is willing to donate from other origins, let me know!

I put a few here http://social.biowar...9/albums/861773 grab whatever you want.

Just to give some perspective, the last time I tried to play a mage in anything was choosing the Sorceress character in Darkstone, and that was primarily for the Lycanthropy skill. I never finished a game as that sorceress, either --once I started encountering rooms full of heavy-hitting melee fighters I was toast. My overriding impulse in those situations is always to start hitting things and keep on hitting them until they fall down. So it's a tribute to how much I like DA:O that I actually started and plan to complete a Mage origin playthrough. I'm still having some adjustment problems --I hate having to call on Leliana to open every chest or locked door (my first 2 Wardens were Rogues), and I still have to remind myself to Mind Blast and get the heck out of the way when surrounded by heavily armed and armored melee fighters-- but so far I'm having more fun with it than I imagined. It's also easier --so far-- than I ever thought it would be. I expect this will change once we get to places like the Deep Roads, but right now those AOE spells are my friends. "What, the battle's over already?" *dusts off sleeves*

I also know that I will have a problem accepting the lower number of kills that I'm bound to get as a Mage as opposed to a Rogue. My Mage has 50% of her party damage, but only 265 kills at Level 11? I do all the work and my Warriors and Rogues sneak in with that one final blow. <_< I will especially miss :( the lack of sweet melee-kill cutscenes. No jumping on Ogres, Dragons, Broodmothers and/or Archdemons for my Mage. . .sigh. My Rogues made a point of grabbing all the big kills just for that.

In any other game I've played I always choose mages. I'm not (or wasn't until now) a frequent or skilled gamer so I usually go for the characters that can just stand back and blow things to pieces. I started out with a mage but I have gotten to like my rogues very much. I still miss fireballing everything, though. However as I moved up in difficulty I was blowing my own party to pieces and now don't use it. Image IPB

@Morwen - This mod gives your mage lock opening spells, there are three of them.  The first two open every locked chest in the game.

Open Lock Spells

They work very well.

I hardly play anything else than rogues. When playing a mage for a change I'm annoyed of not being able to disarm traps or open locks (I'm on XBox...yet) or to slice things in tiny little pieces. Then again I love to blow up stuff too, so walking bomb is an epic spell and always mandatory for my mages.

Still I prefer rogues overall, I have a thing for slicing things apart, before they even have hit me one single time. RAWR.
