HOWEVER. Whereas Loghain put his energy into politics, grasping for the throne, inciting a civil war, and blocking the Wardens at every path. He would have been preparing the country to defend itself, and united the land himself.  Instead of bickering with nobles, he would be fighting the real threat, the darkspawn.

Except it was the bannorn that refused to submit to his authority. He was not a good politician at all, this I know. But to say that this made me forsake his duty? No.

Anyways, I'll go.
Sorry if I bothered.

@Lady J- Yeah I think your husband is right, thanks for that. I guess I was a lot more sympathetic to Loghain until RTO, that's what changed my mind about him. But yeah....why power grasping. Why did HE have to be regent? I think the bannorn would have been fine if Anora just stayed in charge and asked the lands to unite..but thats not how it worked out.  But KoP is right, probably not the best place to discuss Loghain. I yield.

Anora had no power of her own, it was all her father since he led the royal troops.  It always pissed me off when she extended that lukewarm sympathy to the HN about her parents' death.  If she thought it was so bad and Howe was so rotten, why didn't she do something about it.  She couldn't and I think she wouldn't.

Glad I'm playing a HN noble again (even though a mage).  Want to kick her off her throne and put Alistair there  :)

I rather like Anora. I've only put Alistair on the throne once and that was with my HN as Queen. I think Alistair would be unhappy as King, despite being hardened. I mean he's obviously a Grey Warden at heart and being King would just take that away from him. It's like watching a Police officer do a desk job or something. In my opinion anyway.

@Lady Jess: Lol, so glad I could help. Give him my thanks for answering, it's interesting to see how a military man would see it.

I hope that appeases the smut gods.

I hate it when people claim that since I do spare Loghain sometimes, that it means that I HATE Alistair and never romance him.

My City Elf romanced him and is very proud of it.

I especially love that line with Morrigan, "He is an idiot be he is MY idiot".

That so fit her.

... I do envy Alistair here, he gets to run off and be a warden with the love of his life, who is IMHO not that bad looking, lucky bastard.

I share your opinion as well.

"I like being a Warden."

That's what he says when asked if we still doesn't want to be King (unhardened). I don't know, when hardened it just feels that he's doing it out of a sense of duty but not because it's what he really wants.

But I don't think we'll find much support here.

Naw, I prefer Alistair that way too. Him and my Aeducan told their royal obligations to GTFO and went off to be supposedly "selfish," despite the odd bumpy guilt trip.

Not much support for liking ANora or not much support for not making him king?  The two are very different.  My PCs who run off with Alistair don't really like Anora, but that doesn't stop them from kidnapping Alistair.

I might try doing the running away being Wardens thing on my next playthrough, if I can ever pry myself from writing about the game, I'm not even halfway through and already around 40k words, then I have Awakenings and some of my own follow up stuff that's floating around in my head.

Heh, I can imagine I might get lynched from fellow fans if I ever do write up some of the stuff my warped imagination has come up with.

The beauty of this game is we can have the ending WE WANT.  I have no problems giving Anora the throne when I want to go that route.B)

Not much support for not making him king.

It seems there are a few supporting voices. :wizard:

That was his father, too, but despite that Maric did alright and I don't think he had a miserable life.  Anyway someone's got to do it and if you're talking about altruism, making Anora ruler when she sees that as so central to her existence isn't necessarily a compassionate thing to do either.  She ought to smell the roses a little.

Mainly though, I just love King Alistair too much.  Hot, so hot, soooo hot.  LOL  And also I think he makes a good king- again, much like his father did.

I think that Alistair is by far happier being a Warden than a King.

Unhardened At least.

yea sometimes it fits for my PC to either run off with Ali to be GW's and giving Eamon the finger (My dalish did that and I loved it!) and my HN usually marries Anora and leaves Al in the GW's (and BOY is he SO happy!)

basically just a big smile on his face telling you he's going to head off when the GWs' come and he just wants to say "thank you" if he doesn't get a chance later :) It was very satisfying for Roland to get his best buddy's blessing on 'saving' him from the kingship (and this from a hardened Al)

Unhardened sure, but if he's got his love by his side he'll do alright as king.

Dunno, not telling anyone else what to do, but the Warden ending feels empty to me.  Something's not right.  That's beside the WRONG I feel in the final pep speech or when the trumpets in Awakening play and it's not Alistair you see there.

I think it's being a Maric fan that does it to me.

Probably. ^_^

And I do concede that Anora's pep speech is awful beyond belief.

I always put a hardened Alistair on the throne. My pc get's either queen or mistress, if second he rules alone. I don't have the guts to marry him to Anora, no matter if it would be better for Ferelden or not.

Regardless of personal preferences I think Alistair will be a fine king, hardenend or not.

He also talks about the good he can do as king and that it could be an interesting future for him.  He just needs some time to get used to the idea- it's still quite new even as of the LM.

Just don't think you can quantify it.  I thought his dialogue after you make Anora ruler when he's hardened was pretty bleh.  Definitely not as much fun as "I'll tell you one thing, I don't intend to let you get away if that's what you'e thinking- king or not, I'll make it work." Image IPB
But, this being a game, it's what makes the player happy that really counts.  King Alistair makes me happy.  Image IPB

I saw an awful ending slide as unhardened king. It said something about avoidance of his duties, or something like that. Think I took a screen of it since it shocked me a bit.
