Yeah, unhardened... not a good deal.  I try to convince my husband of that.  He sees marrying an unhardened Alistair to Anora as a good thing, since Alistair can goof off while Anora rules.

Ugh.  Do not even want to contemplate the awfulness.

Unhardened sure, but if he's got his love by his side he'll do alright as king.

Dunno, not telling anyone else what to do, but the Warden ending feels empty to me.  Something's not right.  That's beside the WRONG I feel in the final pep speech or when the trumpets in Awakening play and it's not Alistair you see there.

I think it's being a Maric fan that does it to me.

Doesn't feel empty to me. He and my Wardens still have purpose. The darkspawn aren't gone and they're rebuilding the order. Seems an okay end to me, since they get to be together and do something they both found meaning in.

But it works differently for each of my Wardens. I personally don't have any opinion on whether he should or should not be king. If Alistair were someone I knew IRL I wouldn't allow myself to be put in a position to decide his fate. Should be up to him, ideally.

Unhardened its pretty much the Warden or Eamon running the country.

That's what he says when asked if we still doesn't want to be King (unhardened). I don't know, when hardened it just feels that he's doing it out of a sense of duty but not because it's what he really wants.

But I don't think we'll find much support here.

Uhh...that was a rush to judgement there ZJ. MANY of our collective playthroughs in this thread and on the old ones, do indeed make Anora queen and have Alistair stay a warden.  Frankly I don't care about Anora, don't like her, don't hate her, just...meh whatever, she's there, she's just another pain in the arse I have to deal with on my way to my happy ending.

Hardened I think eventually he has the smarts to remodel the King role so it fits him... Which is, after all, what being King should be about...

I think it depends on the pc and the rp you play. I don't think too many of us have hard and fast rules on what we do with Alistair. My HNF rules with a hardned Alistair. I think he makes a great king, is very happy and finds meaning and satisfaction doing what he can to make Fereldan better for everyone. My Surana on the other hand put Anora on the throne and they run off. Also very happy and satisfied with their life.

@Inclemency..I did the unhardend king on a HNF run once. Never again, I felt so bad after reading the epilogue.

It seems there are a few supporting voices. 

Well, I for one only make him king on 2 playthroughs, as I consider rebuilding the wardens with him as the best outcome of the relationship. Of course Queen Cous is my favorite playthrough, but that doesn't mean I feel that ending is the best.

Heh, well I'm pretty hard and fast.  The only GW endings I had were my very 1st pt where I didn't know about hardening and was playing an elf romancing Alistair, and my Dalish blood mage who would not have been able to stay with him otherwise.  Even though I wrote about her, her game was not my fave.

It's not that there's anything wrong with being a Warden, it just seems kind of dull I guess, and few of my Wardens are happy GWs.  Also since Warden Alistair drops off the face of the earth game-wise.

Since I play in a chaotic fashion anyway by whatever I feel like doing at the moment I never know from game to game who will be left in 'charge' when the dust settles. Its a given on my Canon Couslands (Val and Roland) that they will be co-ruling (in as much as Anora will share the throne with anyone else) but I have kept Anora on the throne solo, married Alistair to her, put Alistair on the throne solo. All the endings fit my PC at the time and were enjoyable to me. Usually I harden him irregardless of kingship or not. I think my next mage play through I will probably leave Anora on the throne and leave him unhardened just to see what (if any) differences he has in the ending dialogue. I do know I hated how he was unhardened at the landsmeet the couple of games I waited till after the LM to do his quest (Have to have him Unhardened or he will seize the throne if you are trying to marry the queen yourself).

And since its a game, enjoying yourself is really the only reason to do any of those things.

Oh I agree. HNF married to king Alistair is my fave and imo the best ending but that doesn't mean they don't run off when my pc can't be queen.
