Alistair, remember he's a friend
I guess it depends on where you draw the line between revenge and deserved justice, although I take your point on self destructive tendencies.Maria13 wrote...
I see Alistair as essentially a good guy but I do not see him as a knight in shining armour. As I stated the other day, I think he has a very well-developed dark side. Including self-destructive tendencies and a yen for revenge.
Has no one else noticed that the Theirins always exact revenge? Maric on his mother's killers in a chatry Ali on Logain. I am not saying that that is wholly unreasonable especially given that Ferelden is a rather savage society, however, it does not entirely mesh with the figure of the "white knight".
He is, however, quite prepared to give his life for you and for Ferelden and that is a very redeeming trait.
As for Ali saving you, you can as much save him as he can you and I think he recognises that...

I like the idea of a "knight in shining armor" having a dark side, I don't think one necessarily excludes the other. Much more exciting.

I completely agree with you that Alistair is no saint. But, shiny doesn't have to equal white. Honor and integrity, those are the qualities that define knights of old and Alistair has both, in spades.

Alistair rescues you? When does this happen? If anything, you're in a position to decide his fate.Briiel wrote...
It probably has to do with him being a Knight in shining armor. The whole fairytale scenario. Princess ,damsel in distress and the Happy Ever After Knight who rescues you(so to speak)
@Tuppence: are those blades really awesome to use?? I have been eyeing them and the Weapons of Andraste.
I also would like better rings and necklaces.
I'm talking about how the scenario seems. It's like the fairy tales you read about when your a little girl. Handsome Prince rescues damsel blah blah . Not that he actually rescues you but it's how his character is potrayed
Well we can't all be as cynical and jaded as you:P
Some of us still believe in the fairy tell, and live it<3

Yep, that's the difference between good writing, and one note stereotypes. All the characters are multidimensionaltuppence95 wrote...

I agree. It makes him so much more interesting. The perfect knight in shining armor could get a little boring after awhile. I like his anger, his insecurities, his sadness, his goofiness. I think the writers did a really good job with all the characters, making them all so much more than you see at first glance.
Well ... I'm not sure how much more there is to Howe. But most of them have an amazing amount of depth.
*edit - It's one of the things I love about this game. There are layers to explore if you care to take the time. Many people just walk away seeing Alistair as just "the whiner," Zev as the "sleeze," Morrigan as "cold and mean," and Leliana as "crazy." It's their loss if they don't find out what's underneath those exteriors.

There's nothing quite like getting swooped by Alistair.
And like some of the other ladies have mentioned, I grew up being picky about the men in my life, unfortunately the ones I am interested in only see me as their good buddy. Oh well, at least I haven't had my life screwed up the way some of the girls I knew in high school or college did.

That, Reika, is the understatement of the year!![]()
Since Arturo played the aggressor the first time around he didn't get the chance to be swooped by Alistair. I'm debating about doing another run-through with him, this time letting Alistair make all the romantic decisions. Should be interesting if I go through with it.And like some of the other ladies have mentioned, I grew up being picky about the men in my life, unfortunately the ones I am interested in only see me as their good buddy. From the other side of the street, I did as well. Now at 51 and single, I tend to think I made some serious tactical errors romance-wise. But to regret is folly - it accomplishes nothing. The good thing is that there are plenty of social groups in my area so if I ever decide to test the waters again there are more constructive options than bars and clubs, which were never really my scene.
I just hope if I do I don't use Alistair as the standard to compare any social meetings I may have. That would be most unrealistic.
