Letting Alistair kill him when he didn't fight him seems wrong to me just like having him killed if you use a champion (who won't do it). If the person who duels him kills him then it seems like it's just your way of concluding to the duel. If someone else does it it feels more like an execution which, while no one says anything, we haven't really been authorized to do which makes it feel more like murder. In my games, if Alistair's going to be killing him, he'll beat him first.

Except it's NOT part of the duel at all. The duel is concluded when one person yields, as stated by Alfstanna. it IS in fact an execution. I figure my warden killed Howe for killing HER family, Alistair can darned sure have the nod to kill Loghain for slaughtering his. I fight the duel myself every time because I hate controlling Alistair (I hate warrior play...hate HATE)

I was just curious since from my Warden's viewpoint she does her own dirty work. Since she dueled Loghain and it's her decision to let him live or die, she'll kill him herself.

I only let Alistair kill him on my HN playthroughs. After that whole "

You know, my use of the words 'it seems' indicates that I'm not actually telling everybody how it IS but rather how I felt about the matter. I feel more comfortable having the person who fights Loghain kill him if it comes to that than having it be a gift to someone or a prize. While the duel technically ends when Loghain yields, if the person fighting him just exchanges a few words before finishing him off it FEELS TO ME like it's an organic conclusion to the duel.

I understand where you're coming from and completely agree. Probably why I have a hard time having someone else do the duel then kill Loghain.

Besides, my Warden considers herself a butcher, what's one more death? Also this way with Alistair becoming king, this will be one less problem for him, people won't remember their new king starting off his rule by executing a beloved hero.

No need to get your knickers in a twist, I was just pointing out to clarify, the duel is over, and it's an execution according to the game. Things do get confusing sometimes and I thought it would be good to clarify what actually is. Pardon moi.

As I said, I rarely let anyone else duel Loghain, or kill him. ONLY in one instance (HNF), because Alistair doesn't need to make HIMSELF king in my games ever, EVER again.

So your post told me that my preferred interpretation of part of the game was wrong (even if you didn't mean it like that) and then when I tried to explain that I wasn't telling other people how they should see the scene I need to 'not get my knickers in a twist'? Image IPB

I'm just curious (probably should do a poll for laughs), am I the only one who actually has their Warden kill Loghain? It seems like most people have Alistair do it.

My warden cares about it, but Alistair cares more, so I feel like he should be the one just like I make sure that my Cousland gets the killing blow on Howe.

I always have Alistair duel Loghain. It's his claim to the throne that's being contested, so I think he's the one that should do it. I feel like another choice makes it seem like he can't take care of his own business, or worse, that the warden is pulling the strings. But that's just how it feels to me. And since the execution is a result of the duel, it also seems right that the same person should do both, and that both should be Alistair. But again, that's just how I feel about it.

Well, if you're not making him king then it doesn't really matter if he looks like he can't handle his own business.

Or if you're marrying him to Anora, where ideally I'd let him execute Loghain (if my Warden's gonna be mistress) but eh, I wouldn't marry the person who executed my dad either.

This is too good to snip--leaving it in for relevance. Just look at that communication between those two! (after watching Chuck tonight, that's on my mind. Communication was the theme. ;) )

Well...yeah. That's why I said that was how I felt about it. Twice. Course I wouldn't want my non-king friend/lover to look like he needed me to do it, either, but again, that's just my gameplay. No one elses. No yours. No ones. Just mine.

Because you haven't done that a hundred times in this thread and the old one right?...lol

No, I didn't tell you how to interpret your game. If you choose to ignore the ACTUAL dialog and see it the way you do more power to you. But don't get all fussed if someone comes along and says that's not how it is.

I can see the Dialogue now

PC: No, you cannot kill Loghain
Alistair: But why?
PC: Because I have PLANS and you are NOT ruining them by being king.
Alistair: I don't WANT to be king.
PC: Right. That's what you say now, but the minute you lop his head off...you'll decide you do
Alistair: No, I swear!
PC: Ok, fine, here's the sword
Alistair *chops* I AM KING!!!
PC: Sod it. I quit. I'm going to the Pearl, YOU go deal with the blight.

By the way, I understand why you'd do the duel yourself for the gameplay mechanics of not wanting to control a warrior if you hate it. Well, not understand, because I LOVE playing a warrior, but I get it conceptually. ;)

You know, I really wasn't going to bring that up but since you did...that's a lot like that time you got 'all fussed' when I pointed out that having a templar training a mage on how to use a sword and thus negating their advantage over mages was a pretty blatant disregard for game lore.

And in my game, I choose to not even get the actual dialgoue as I've killed Loghain all of twice (and once just to see an ending) and what I was talking about was my discomfort with the passing the executoin off to someone else option.

Annnnd because I don't ONLY play HNF. I play mages, I play Dalish, I play Dwarves, that may not want silly man to insta-gank Loghain and declare himself king. sad fact is, they way the game is set up, if Alistair duels Loghain, it's insta-death and insta king.

Well if you romance Alistair, and want an ending other than his mistress? Yeah you learn to suck it up,.
