I'm actually sort of glad I did this one because I had another Alistair execution story that didn't go anywhere. So it was good to get this out. I chose this one instead of the other one simply b/c I truly cannot see Alistair allowing the Warden to get executed. Maybe that's just my interpretation of him, but there you go.

In unabashed longing for praise, if anyone who commented here has an ff.net account, I would ask to repeat your comments there. Thank you. :x

I think he just has trouble deciding whether to sample the left or the right one, first...

Only if he was Canadian would he know that.
If he was, then he gets more cool points to me.

I'm a little confused as to what Anora's thinking. Loghain won so he wouldn't be sentenced to the Joining and if Lya's imprisoned and Alistair executed won't this make Riordan the only Warden? Won't that mean that when he dies Ferelden is doomed? If Lya is allowed out to fight she'll be a hero and there's no way Anora could relock her up without some serious backlash from the people.

Well I can't read something like that because its too sad but since Loghain kills the Warden and Alistair if he wins the duel in the first place I am assuming its "AU" situation here to begin with, which means anything can happen.

Sarah...Its AU not really any serious explanation, or maybe its just a really bad dream that Alistair and Lya have. Maybe they still are illusive to the blight, maybe I dunno its a dark AU tragedy don't think too much just focus on the bond that is about to be forced away.

Yes, it is AU and I think you might have missed the point of the story.  But let's think about it a bit.
Would Anora let Lya out if Riordan told her why Grey Wardens were needed?  I think she would yes.  Anora does care about the well-being of Ferelden and would let Lya die a hero if it meant saving the nation.  After all, in this scenario, she's not executing her as a way of placating the Bannorn.

Would Loghain submit to the Joining if he knew his actions had doomed Ferelden?  Because that's exactly what Loghain did in this situation.  I don't know.  I guess it would depend on whether or not he believed Riordan

So...wanting to understand how the character's actions make any sense is 'missing the point' and 'thinking too hard'? Posted Image

When things don't make sense, it bothers me. Any AU worth anything should be able to answer the question of 'how does it get to this point', which LadyD does.  If it's AU then it has to be able to say whether Ferelden falls, Lya is let out once Denerim gets under attack and dies heroically, Loghain willing undergoes the Joining, Riordan is more careful during the fight as he's the only Warden, whatever. You can't just say 'So Alistair and Lya are dead/imprisoned and things go fine.'

Edit: How am I supposed to feel sad for these two if it makes no sense that they could ever be in that situation? I needed an explanation and now that I've got one I can feel properly empathetic.

I meant that I deliberately left specific answers to those questions unknown because they are unknown. I don't know what would happen in this situation. I know what I'd like to happen, but that doesn't mean it does. The piece was more about the two of them than all the other decisions and repercussions.

And it does make sense that they could be in a situation similar to that. If you lose the vote, that is exactly what Loghain does. And if you lost the fight as well, I can't imagine he does anything different. I'd like to think in that situation Riordan does a whole lot of fast talking, but I don't think Loghain would believe him. *shrugs* We'll never know.

New subtopic of the overall supertopic of Alisquee. . .

So I just started my second playthrough of DA:O, this time as a City Elf (see new avatar). In my first playthrough I was a Dwarf Commoner and my character squeed on Alistair almost immediately and they had a very head-in-the-clouds sort of romance which resulted in the WC ending, which was very sad and somewhat annoying and, IMO, pretty much inevitable given the circumstances. I picked the City Elf with the full intention of her having a relationship with Alistair again but this time, of a less lofty and more down-to-earth nature, which would hopefully have a somewhat happier ending. The trouble is, after going through my Origin story I'm not too keen on human males right now. Particularly sarcastic blond aristocratic human males. Any other City Elf Alistair fanciers experience the same thing? Do you get over it or give the thing a miss and hang out with Zevran instead?

Well, my CEF went for Zevran, but Alistair is her BFF. They are best buds. Of course, it probably helps that she's just a little too naive and trusting for her own good. I had a harsher CEF who eventually warmed up to Alistair. He's just too genuine to hate for other people's sins.

Alistair with a city elf is definently well done, plus compaing Ali to Vaughan, is very unfair.

Besides being human the two are not anything alike.

I played my City Elf as anti-human but Alistiar actually turned her around on the issue, mainly the rose, and ninja kiss did it, but he helped.

I think Alistair is probably different enough in his attitude towards the CE that he can avoid too many comparisons to most human men she might have came across. I've never not romanced Alistair because of the CE origin.  ( also I never thought of vaughn as blond or Alistair as particularly aristocratic to be honest. I never gave that much thought)  I would think Zev with his openess towards sexual things might be more freaky for the CE. There's a lot of RP potential as to how the CE might feel about it and get over her past or not.  Meh, I don't know. Whatever I say will probably be jumped on and ripped apart by someone trying to disprove it anyway. ( not you, just what tends to happen)  Have some nakedstair.

Yeah, I was hoping that the turnaround was possible. I'm very early into it so I'm still raw from the Vaughan incident. The problem is that *I* know that Alistair and Vaughan are completely different sorts of people, but Lyra (my CEF) does not. All she sees is another human male of somewhat similar appearance who also thinks he's a wit. And her experience with humans in general so far would not lead her to think the best of them anyway. I am trying to play this as much as possible as though I am seeing it through her eyes, i.e., without the sense of perspective that comes from having played it before.

I would think the ninja kiss would be... less well received by a CEF.

Who said it was about fairness or logic? She had a horrible experience with a human man and so it is not at all unreasonable that her reaction COULD be to be reflexively anti-shem and that would be Vaughan's fault for, if nothing else, exacerbating things. Maybe in a year she'd get over it to romance Alistair and maybe not.

My CEF went for Alistair, but to be honest I didn't roleplay her all that much as she was my second character ever. :-P But she was very much a "Mess with me and die, I can take care of myself" sort of character, so I don't think she had a problem per say with Alistair being human. He didn't act like Vaughn, so it was okay.
