Only occasional archer.

I usually stick Alistair in Legion of the Dead armour for the end game in an attempt to compensate for not hardening him.  He might be terrified of being King, but at least he's got ominous looking armour to keep those nobles in line.

If you want, and it's just wording holding you back, in IRS-A cmess and I redid the hardening lines so you don't sound as much like an ass.  The two lines are still obvious as hardening lines, and convey the same message, but in a nicer way.

Hmmm, I don't suppose anyone here would like to see MY Alistair sexytime pics... Ummm, they're in the [deleted] which may be warning enough! 

That doodle of Alistair is amazing, though. And yes, the hardening line really sucks. I don't know of anyone who would choose it, especially while romancing him, in an unspoiled playthrough. Then again, it's kinder to not harden him if you don't make him king.

Edit; On second thought, it's probably best you DON'T look at those pictures!  Edited and am sneaking away now

We've had this debate around here a lot, but I don't think it's kinder to not harden Alistair even if he's not going to be king. Boy needs a backbone just for life, not only for the kingship. Though personally I hate the hardening mechanic and think that if the Blight and losing Duncan didn't harden him, nothing will anyway. He's on a road just like the PC, and my PCs are all pretty hardened people by the time they're done, so I click the line and forget about the mechanic.

@Addai I was not meaning to bring up old arguments at all (I didn't realize this was one).  It was more trying to stay on topic!  But there's a difference between hardening him, which does prepare him in many ways to be a leader among men, and not hardening him and keeping him happy being a follower, and a gray warden.  His reaction to becoming king (or not becoming king, actually, if using a mod that restores a conversation with him post-landsmeet) is so different whether hardened or not.  He wants to be king if hardened.  If you don't make him king and you do harden him, you're depriving him of his birthright.

But, of course, that is only my opinion!  I can see your argument as well.  I don't think not-hardened = weak, however.  He's a brave warrior no matter what.
