Compared to city elves?  Absolutely.  They have weapons to defend themselves, and if it comes to it the ability to leave.

All of the Dalish hunters are dying in the infirmary, of course she knows the curse is killing them.  If the PC hadn't come along, Cammen would be all they had to defend them. Plus , the darkspwan destoy the enitre land, it becomes completely inhabiable - they don't just single out the human huts.

You really don't understand why she wouldn't want to help or think your Warden was all that great?

She might not like the Idea of going off to war - great, but don't attack me over it.  Its just another instance of them being unreasonable.  And again, the blight is a threat to everyone.

Because they've chosen to live outside of Ferelden. I understand the CEs are largely ignorant of the outside world (the way several of them refer to the Dalish as savages suggest to me there's a lot of propaganda against the Dalish distributed amongst them.) and that they aren't much in the eyes of the law, but it's a world they've chosen.

She's a hunter who will attack you after you've resolved nature of the Beast and are travelling through the Brecilian forest. You can talk her down easily enough. I think you have to be a non Dalish for her to show up because I never saw in my first runthrough (with a Dalish Warden)

It's not the ability to leave, it's being forced to leave if they don't want extreme violence to break out. They don't choose to be nomadic, they're forced to because of humans who cannot even stand them being in a forest near them. The Dalish have become so guarded and distrustful as a result of years of having to live a lifestyle like this, which stems from the persecution, murder and enslavement of their people. It's not that they're noble archers who prefer to live in nomadic clans and commune with nature, they HAVE to. As a result of all the sh!t they've been through is that they're so standoffish and rude when an outsider comes in, not that they just feel like doing so for no reason. That's why they have weapons. That's why they have to leave (and their weapons give them the means to do so without being slaughtered).

All true.  All still leaves them better off than the elves in the alienage.

That's the thing though. She's not being unreasonable. She has no reason to trust you or feel she needs to defend human lands.  And she isn't attacking you over going to war. The Dalish don't mind fighting to protect each other or themselves. She's attacking you because you've dragged her off to fight on Ferelden soil for human soldiers instead of for her clan.

Well, I don't really think it's right to say the alienage elves choose to be poor and choose to be captured and raped and killed either. They happen to have been born in a place where they're extremely discriminated against and not really allowed the means to improve their lot in life. They can leave, sure, but when you don't have any money because the best work you can get is being someone's servant (if you're lucky), what are you supposed to do? I just think that the alienage elves and the Dalish have extremely ****ty lots in life, and you shouldn't expect them to welcome a human as their savior and champion with open arms.

Ah, yes thx, I remember her faintly now. I believe I talked her down with my CE but since it has been ages ago that I have played the game through with a non-Dalish, I didn't remember her at first.

So why all the tantrum about her anyway? She is just one single Dalish in the false believe that killing Zathrien was a bad thing. She doesn't know your story or ehat really happened, so she attacks when you go rawr on her as well. Kinda logical for me, so I don't get the agitation about her.*shrug* Also judging a whole folk just because of the way she react in that moment is... short-sighted imo. o.O

I agree. I'm just pointing out what the Alienage looks like to the Dalish. Throwing away the only world you've ever known (however terrible it might be) isn't something people can do easily. We like the familiar and we like what's common especially when we're told that's how it has to be (essentially what the CE's dad says). But (arguing like a Dalish might) if we were ever truly committed to overcoming our lot in life, we'd be willing to risk a lot more then just our lives.

Who have no other option, unless they're prepared to abandon their culture and faith, and spit in contempt upon their parents and grandparents.

Like my Dalish might say and I did in my last post

'If you were truly committed to improving your lot in this world, you'd be willing to sacrifice much more then just your life.'

True enough.  City elves have chosen that life... but I also suspect it's a lot harder to simply get up and abandon one's family, friends, home, etcetera than the Dalish would like to believe.  Especially because, in addition to the genes, city elves appear to share the Dalish elves' emphasis on family values.

Anyway, now that I've delurked... I shall flee.  Look, an Alistair to cover my escape! Image IPB

Actually she attacks you because she wants to know where the former werewolves went, she wants to hunt them down and kill every last one, and you can talk her down by saying Zathrien wanted revenge too and see where that lead. She's pissed because her husband was killed by the werewolves along with her friends. It has nothing to do with the war or your warden's intervention.

What I don't like about the Dalish view of city elves is that they seem to blame the humans for the things that they personally have to do to avoid the humans going after them and yet they blame the city elves for the things THEY do to avoid human retributoin. It's all well and good for them to say that they shouldn't let the humans control them but the Dalish DO let their actions be influenced by humans (why does the Mahariel clan move on in the DE origin? Humans are annoyed that they are there and they want to avoid an attack). Whenever city elves do try to stand up for themselves like the Dalish claim they should, it ends very, very badly. Adaia was murdered for something we're not told much about but had something to do with her being too defiant and Soris thrown in a dungeon and forgotten about while the CE is probably killed if not the Warden for rescuing several women from being raped and (for some) killed. I hate that the Dalish can't respect that and act like the city elves brought it upon themselves.

Especially when you're playing a CE. You were BORN into the life, you didn't CHOOSE to leave the dalish and their ways. So they basically spit on you for something beyond your control.

All fair and square, but as said before none of them knows it better. Both sides are stuck up with prejudices and because their lifes are so different despite being one kin, it's hardly likely that they ever learn what it means to be Dalish...or a city elf for that matter.

Edit: added some Alistair:

Nooo, she'll show up with a Dalish.  And if you don't have any points in Coersion (or maybe I picked really bad dialogue options?), she'll attack you, too.  >.<  (Not a good day for my Mahariel.)

He is one flaming hot sexpot when he's pissed off.

I think the sexiest face he ever made was when he gives you the shocked/utterly incredulous Eyebrow of Doom when the question of sparing Loghain at Landsmeet comes up.

It is a totally different Eyebrow of Doom to any other he gives in game up to that point. I really need to screenie it.:wub::wub::wub::wub::wub:
