t sounds like your origin struck you in an unexpected way, I would say go with it and see where it leads you. If it turns out not to be Alistair, so be it. I love the Alistair romance and always do it for a happy ending but I started 2 "side" characters for specific reasons who have started taking on a life of their own, which surprised me. One is a HNF I started to try the gilmore mod. I planned to do the romance but most likely end up with Alistair, which is still probably happening, but her feelings about gilmore and why she makes certain choices kind of hit me out of left field as I started playing. The other character is an elf mage that I started with the intention of making "evil" to try out the opposite of my normal choices, but as I play I am finding she is anything but evil. Still not a good match for Alistair but perfect for Zevran.

My current HNF was created to experience all the great new romance stuff out this week, but took on a life of her own.  So far she has Alistair at `Hostile``.   (sorry, keyboard switched to french canadian so punctuation is strange).   He pretty well hates her right now, and she`s not too thrilled about what she thinks is his naivety.  I can`t help thinking about how Anora described the difference between Loghein and Cailan, and that`s how my PC is seeing Alistair, as a sheltered idealist she is losing patience with.

Hopefully she`ll get hit in the head in a coming battle for a much needed attitude adjustment...

Yeah, I have 4 complete and 2 in progress playthroughs with the happy Alistair romance (well except my first WC ending) which I love and will keep doing until I get sick of it. I knew all their stories before I started playing because in reality they are all the same character with very minor differences. It really surprises me that unintentional stories are developing with the other 2.

Yeah, I was hoping that the turnaround was possible. I'm very early into it so I'm still raw from the Vaughan incident. The problem is that *I* know that Alistair and Vaughan are completely different sorts of people, but Lyra (my CEF) does not. All she sees is another human male of somewhat similar appearance who also thinks he's a wit. And her experience with humans in general so far would not lead her to think the best of them anyway. I am trying to play this as much as possible as though I am seeing it through her eyes, i.e., without the sense of perspective that comes from having played it before.

I've gone both ways with this, with 2 different CEF characters.  One romanced Alistair and found it (as my Dalish do) a healing thing to find a human man as kind, honorable, and Not-Vaughan as he is.  My other CEF just couldn't look at him that way.  They became friends and she went with Zevran.

The very first thing that Alistair does that impresses my elven chicks, aside from just being goofy/ nice Alistair, is that he trusts in their leadership.  How the hell great is that?  All the alpha males can complain about Alistair being a whiner and unmasculine all they want.  I think Alistair was written for the elven female.
Of course, I'm a little biased about that.  :wizard:

So do you believe reflexive dislike and wariness would last months?

Depending on a person, these can last for years and generations -- not to point out the obvious but say, the slavers in southern US didn't get over their prejudice within months even though they lived next to the very people they despised and considered inferiors for years and years. Our minds can work as powerful filtering devices, making us ignore good things we see about people we "know" aren't good, and vice versa, we'll often willingly refuse to see bad in who we believe to be good. This can be viewed as stupid but i think it's more of result how we're built -- we rely very much on patterns and beliefs we establish in our minds, because that's the way we've shaped (and survived/excelled) as species.

Just look at how things are today in terms of race relations. They may have improved but they're in no way perfect. People are resentful over systematic oppression and prejudice, even when the impacts may have been diminished over the centuries, it doesn't mean it is gone. I think it is perfectly understandable for a person who was grown up in an environment where they and their family and people have been put down, abused and even killed just because of their race to be extremely mistrustful and wary of people who have the same appearance as the oppressors. If all you've ever known is that people who look like them are people whom you have seen kidnapping yours to rape them, use them as slaves and who have basically treated you worse than they treat their dogs for generations... how can you be immediately trusting? It's not as much as them being racist against humans but setting up walls and defenses to keep themselves alive in a world where they could be killed for looking at a human the wrong way. An individual could be, but to say that they're stupid for that mistrust or even hatred? I think it is being overly simplistic and naive.

So a city elf may very well not trust Alistair at all and even have misdirected hate and resentment toward him. But she's part of a group that has experienced so much suffering at the hands of humans, merely for "daring" to be different than humans. She's *personally* been kidnapped by human men in order to be used for their entertainment and raped and abused (which she luckily escaped but she saw an acquaintance killed before her, her fiance killed and her cousin was raped by human men). After experiencing so much trauma, it's going to take a while for her to open up and realize that hey, he's not so bad a guy and maybe not all humans are awful people. If that happens at all. She may as well be broken enough that she only interacts with humans out of necessity. Who knows. It's up to the player to RP however they want.

And it does make sense that they could be in a situation similar to that. If you lose the vote, that is exactly what Loghain does. And if you lost the fight as well, I can't imagine he does anything different. I'd like to think in that situation Riordan does a whole lot of fast talking, but I don't think Loghain would believe him. *shrugs* We'll never know.

Yes, I think Loghain would tell the dirty Orlesian to talk to the hand.  And probably execute him too, since he's a spy.

I must admit that M Hawke is hot. Sadly I doubt I will have the option to romance myself.

Underworld armor is yummy.  I'm not too fond of the leather straps, but the coloring on Alistair is sweet.  Also looks nice on Zevran, and it'll probably stay on him since it has insane rogue stats.

Not going to sit around moping for a guy who's clearly moved on.  There are virgin templars to be bedded, dammit.  :D

I wouldn't say my game has a lot of moping. It does, however, contain the questionable coping skill of killing things to make herself feel better. Posted Image

What? no smut on a thursday? To quote Alistair - "I am shocked and appalled."

This is my only offering for today. I will be in London for work and won't be around to see most of the naughty shenanigans.

OK i am thinking that all of you are forgetting the first nice human you encounter who saves you from prison....DUNCAN!!!  Hello Grey Warden and then you meet Alistair....Another Grey warden.  My CEF found that very redeeming.  I tried to be hard towards Alistair but the more you talk the funnier it gets and there is no mistake about who he is and how he feels.  You have killed Vaughn and now moving on sice your family is "safe" (as far as you know)   So why not move on?

He certainly is fine. And as for romancing yourself, why not? As Woody Allen put it, it's sex with someone you really love.
Or do as I do. Play hot male characters and then make them sleep with Zevran. Guys do it all the time with female characters and what's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. Posted Image
