Haha...so true.  You guys are crazy when it comes w/ drinking.  What I really love are his mom's Scottish slangs she uses when her husband or anyone gets cheeky w/ her.  "Up yer kilt w/ a wire brush!" is my favourite Image IPB

Oh we have those witty comebacks to !! :o:O"Whatever floats your boat". There is another one that my mum says that cracks me up to and I can't remember it right now.
My mum was born here in Maine and I was born in Georgia so we have a long standing joke about her being a Yankee. Our family is always cracking jokes and smart assed comments .:whistle:

Not trying to take a moral high ground.  How to explain ...

For me, I was so overwhelmed by Eleanor's act.  The first time I played through that origin, it literally had me in tears.  To me, she was so strong and beautiful making her stand to allow her child to escape.  It was an act of bravery and love.  I know I keep repeating this, but I think it's very important that she knew what she was doing.  She had a very good idea what was facing her, and she stood up to it bravely because she knew that it would allow her child a chance to escape.  I was so proud of her and I really love her character.  She is what made me fall in love with the Couslands.

I just hate to see that taken away from her.

No where did I deny that this was beautiful from her. I know. I greatly admire her for it. Even if I didn't feel it should have been done and that it wasn't the most rational thing to do, it would have helped more if she came along.

But yes I was very moved by this and by her act of bravery and loyalty. But if I was her son, I can't let her do it because I think it would be admirable or that it would be a shame if I didn't let her do it.

I am not trying here to say any feeling about this issue is wrong, or anything you might want to do is wrong (except well if you spit on your parents as you laughingly run off). Just like I admire Eleanor for her choice, I would equally admire a son doing whatever it takes to save his mother.

The situation is so tragic that whatever you do, you are making a hard unpleasant choice (I don't even think I have the guts to knock my mother out).

My main point is that we don't have any other choice but to accept it, without obvious reason to do so. I understand it for story and plot reasons. It's just if I take it too seriously, my PC would think he is scum.

If I took it seriously, my PC wouldn't lead her life like that knowing the price that came with it..  Sure she would feel guilty, and be burdened w/ regrets, but she wouldn't be honouring her parent's life by living hers w/ self loathe.  She'd grieve as much as she can, pick herself up, move on and live her life to her parent's expectations.  And that to me is how a child fulfills his/her duty.

EDIT
Okay, discussion has moved on to greener pastures.  I type slow...brain slower...beddy-byes now...

Of course he wouldn't live his life as a drunk or anything like that. He has too much pride and ambition for this kind of life and he wouldn't let his parents down. But, he would always blame himself for it and he would partially hate himself. In other words, he would be haunted by it forever and will always wonder if he could have saved her or not.
He woudn't live a healthy life.

But no, I don't think he would fall apart and say "screw it, my life isn't worth a nickel".

I actually RP my HNF similarly. She does feel like garbage, but in her case it's for not having stayed with her parents till the end (of course that's not an option in game). It's until she see's Bryce's spirit in the Gauntlet that she finally decides to stop torturing herself and move on.

I know this is going further OT, but I just wanted to respond to the "raping and torturing of Eleanor" line of thought. Why is it assumed that that's what happens to her? Maybe it's just my "shut out the bad stuff" way of thinking, but in my game she's overwhelmed by numbers and dies fighting. Yes, these are men who killed Oren, but they didn't save Oriana or Lady Landra for later, they just killed them. Even Eleanor says "Howe's not even taking hostages." Nothing in the game leads one to think that Howe's men are the raping and torturing kind, and even in Awakening you get some indication that his men really aren't on board with taking over Highever.

A major reason why Eleanor's spirit should have been there. Why do they think he would feel more sad for Bryce?
I feel more sad for the person I might have saved, rather than one I knew I couldn't save.

It's like showing Bruce Wayne / Batman only remembering his father and not both his parents. It's not the same!

Now my PC has too much pride and too much at stake to show that he feels like garbage. But deep inside, I think he would, at least for a time.

I am not saying this is what happened to her. I don't think it happened.

It's just what my PC would have thought a great possibility during all taht stress, fear and horror he's experiencing. Because she is the Teyrna, so they might think it's more "symbolic".

But even if he knew 100% that they wouldn't do this to her, I would have still knocked her out and got her out of there if she couldn't be convinced.

I actually RP that the amulet that Bryce gives you is from Eleanor. I know, a little bit contrived, but it adds another layer of emotion to that scene, which is already too much to handle for my PC (she has a HUGE emotional breakdown there).

Can there be a mod that adds Eleanor in there? Maybe re-use some of her dialogue?

My bf and his dad are so full of smart ass'd comments.  It's funny how your fam gives your mum a hard time.  Bf's fam does the same to theirs and her reactions are always amusing (the fiery Scot that she is).  It's not the same w/ his dad.  He's your typical Irish that keeps their emotions in and deals w/ it by drinking pints every weekend.

I think it would be possible. Obviously I'm not talented enough with the toolset to know for sure, but I think it would be possible to add her next to Bryce and once all the dialogue is exhausted have her throw some lines of her own.

Gah, how I wish I knew how to handle cutscenes in the toolset!!

I admit though, if both Bryce and Eleanor were in that scene, I would fill my room with tears (I already get very near too with just Bryce). :crying:
