Hmmm. I don't think regret and guilt are the same thing, either. He can feel guilt without bearing guilt. If he'd left when there were no other wardens, or when the PC was the only one, then okay, redemption would be required, but I still think it's too strong a word for leaving them with exactly the same numbers they had before the PC chose to recruit Loghain.

I think he would need redemption in his own eyes, no matter his actual guilt.

Yeah, I think Alistair would feel extremely guilty that he wasn't there to end the Blight that Duncan taught him he must end.  I don't think it would matter if they managed to do the joining with even more wardens.  That's the battle he was meant to do, and he walked out.  I think he would believe he needed redemption.

You're too busy enjoying nutella smothered Hawke, right? :P

But yea I am looking forward to new romances!
Hopefully we get a male LI for Lady Hawke that I would like more than those in Origins.

I am saving myself for Varric.

Agreed, Steve Valentine FTW  Image IPB

And who am I kidding, if it is confirmed that Alistair is in DA2, I'm gonna be buying it on release date, and the squee is going to hit the fan the minute I hear SV's voice coming out of the speakers.  I've already gotten the eyeroll from the male side of Addai67 over this.

Him:  I thought we weren't getting DA2.
Me:  But, Alistair!
Him:  ....

*snip*

Yes, that took it from 'really don't want" to "will almost surely buy'. The only thing that would stop me at this point is if it turns out to be nothing more than a cameo.

Lol, Alistair romancing Hawke? That'd be boring, to be honest. As a temp companion or someone you talk to, fine. But I kind of don't want the same people to romance as a different character.

I'll be interested in whatever interaction they decide to give him, but yeah I agree it's not something that appeals to me.   I mean, if we get a roll in the hay with him, not to say I wouldn't...  Image IPB

Same with Nathaniel Howe, who IMO is a more likely candidate for the hit it and quit it that David Gaider mentioned.  In my mind he's already destined for my Orlesian elf chick in my game, but if I end up playing DA2, Marian whatsherface can give him some aid and comfort and I won't mind.

I admit that Alistair as a full fledged romace companion in DA2 would absolutly appeal to me, but I doubt that's going to happen. Like Addai said, if there was an option for a roll in the hay I would be all over that, but I can imagine how tragic the evil minds at bioware would portray that one.

As for Nathaniel...Image IPB

Hey, I saw on twitter that SV was talking about (probably joking about) finally playing DA on a playstation.  How will he be able to appreciate the wondrousness of Alistair as a LI without the mods!

Actually, that would be very very weird.

*edit A big yes to Nathaniel as a LI!!!

When I see shots like ToP, I regret not using Natural Bodies. Cons are awkward armor changes, but the pro is Alistair butt. That's a big pro.

BTW going back to a discussion from many moons ago, we started watching Buffy because I was interested to see the character Alistair was based on. He's cute, but Gaider's improvement on the material is obvious.

Yeah, I agree.  But it helps to cross him with Mal from Firefly to be able to see something closer to Alistair.

I doubt they'd have a romance, or even a companion that would only happen in one ending. On the other hand, they appear to be reaching for a larger/different market, most of whom would be starting without and import. But then again, I suspect default is King Alistair.... Let's just say it's unlikely. Still, I'd think that was great--a chance to make the unhappiest guy in Thedas feel good about people again. I'm biased, though. Not only is that an element of the story I'm writing, but I'm pretty sure that they can't make a LI that will appeal to me as much, and all others will seem flat.

Flemeth is very much the draw for me, she is part of my Wardens' stories, an important part, since they'd be dead if not for her. And dead AGAIN if not for Morrigan. Alistair can be a cameo, thats just icing on the cake for me. If I can't PLAY my Warden, at least I can get more information!

Yes, I too would go along with this.  Also that he might believe that his behaviour was sinful as I think that he has deeply held religious convictions... But that is how he might see it, an outside observer might think that he had already done more that his fair share of fighting the good fight by the LM anyway...

It's true that any others of your companions might ditch you and for less reason (Wynne/ Leliana for instance), but Alistair can fairly be held to a higher standard.  Not only is he a Warden, but for some of my PCs he is the only reason they stay in Ferelden to defeat the Blight.  It's his cause.  I actually find that it stretches plausibility that he abandons it completely, but that's what the writers say he does so we have to deal with that.

I find it completely plausible, myself. In fact, I don't know how he could bring himself to stay, but that was yesterday's discussion, in part, so I'll leave it at that. :)

Indeed. When you ask him about going to the Orlesian Wardens (something that Duncan would have done had he survived Ostagar apparently), he strongly rejects the idea on the basis that he can't leave Ferelden and its people, even for just a few weeks.

So either he was lying and the only reason he wanted to stay was to kill Loghain, which I find unlikely and disturbing. Or he was so enraged at the LM, that he became oblivious to it, at least for a time (and he had quite some time to come back and fight, it wasn't that short).

*Peeks in* Hey, I'm looking for a hard to find save. Dalish female, who activated the love flag with Tamlen in the origin saved either before the Tamlen shriek attack or before speaking to Ghoul Tamlen. I need one for Zevran/Alistair romance active as well as no romance.

In Undertow, SurelyForth has him basically already in a stupor, if not completely drunken, at least in an emotional stupor.  He gets on a boat and then it's like one thing leads to another.  I guess I can see it that way.  He doesn't have any other ties, nowhere to go, so he just starts running (a la Forrest Gump) and doesn't stop until it's too late to go back.

I have one of those with an Alistair romance active.  But I'm at work so can't get it to you until this evening.

highly doubt he was lying about it. The latter seems more plausible. You have to consider travel time. I don't think he just stayed in Denerim hanging out at that time, so if he left and went somewhere far from Denerim, he doesn't exactly have the options to travel back quickly and help with the Blight unless he invented a teleporter xD

Doesn't it say he got on a ship, though?  Depending on where it was headed, it could be quite some time before he would have an opportunity to return.

It's not a question of him coming back in time. It's a question of whether he thought about turning back when he was leaving. He had plenty of time to reconsider.

Very true. If he went straight to the docks from Landsmeet (which I think he probably did. Where else would he go?), and got on a ship to Kirkwall--the closest foreign port, and a likely destination since he ends up in Starkhaven--even if he'd taken the the first available ship back immediately on arrival, the blight would already be ended.
