It *might* but he's not really actively doing anything to establish himself in that way. And considering Alistair I don't think it would happen anyway >.>

Because the idea of Alistair having a ton of fans without really attempting to is completely ridiculous. Image IPB

That will work almost exclusively to the female population though :P

Lol, him being popular (for whatever reason, not gonna argue about why people like him) is not the same as a cult of personality though xD

Of course not.
I really don't see Alistair posters and statues everywhere lol

Cult of personality is something Bhelen would do. He has the charisma for it.

Who here always asks for "my face to be put on one of those big statues"? *raises hand*

My warden has her issues, but she's not keen to be memorialized in that way. :)

And since there isn't any Alistair showing in the thread...

*raises hand as well*

On the playthroughs were I help Brother Burkel I also ask for the option that's similar to that (can't remember what it was though).

Oh, my yes. The first time I verbally sparred with Howe in the dungeon my jaw dropped open at just how evil he was. Howe telling my Cousland how he made my mother kiss his feet before killing her made my blood pressure jump by at least 20 points. /images/forum/emoticons/angry.png

But if your persuade skill is high enough definitely take the "Intimidate" dialog options. Just knowing that you got to him made his demise that much more sweeter

I have never had a dialoge with Howe where he tells how he made my Cousland Mother die, how do you trigger that?

Howe says "I thought Loghain made it clear that your pathetic family is gone and forgotten." And you have the option of "You won't forget. Their memory drove me to you."

Also, if you say you want to kill his family, he says something to like of:

"Am I supposed to regret the fact I created a monster? Here, let me show you how it's done. I made your mother kiss my feet while your father was watching".

Something like that.
He does say "let me show you how it's done", that I remember , because it's despicably badass.

That conversation triggers after telling him "After this I'll kill your wife and daughter, too."

A bit harsh, I know but can you blame me?

Yeah, I was just digging through the toolset for the dialogue options. I love some of the scripting comments, pity they wouldn't make it past the language censor on the boards. :D

Hey, I'm 51.

Maybe 'harsh' wasn't the right word.

How about 'crotchety'? Image IPB

Actually Marlana never threatened his family, it was clear they didn't have anything to do with Howe's actions. Not to mention it seemed to be lowering herself to his level.

I always preferred "I know your game. No shadows, no lies. Just you and me."

Agreed. But I when I roleplayed this with Arturo, I made his quest for revenge a running motif for his playthough. It was an interesting dynamic between Arturo, who lost a father (and mother) and Alistair, who lost a father-figure.

The thing is that Arturo's thirst for revenge didn't abate after killing Howe. For his boon at game's end rather than choosing to honor the Grey Wardens he chose to make the Howes pay for what they did to his family. I found it notable that in the end both Alistair and Arturo settled their scores. The difference is that  I get the impression that Alistair moved on. Arturo? I'm guessing not so much. He still carries a lot of bitterness. And like the Lady of the Forest can give Swiftrunner peace, I see Alistair being Arturo's calming factor.

A final thought - I've yet to fully delve into Awakening with Arturo but it will be interesting to see how he interacts with Nathaniel Howe!

Hehe, double posts happen to us all. :)

In Marlana's case...she was too guilt ridden to dwell on revenge. Not to mention being the one getting saddled with doing something about the Blight. And completely mortified at the fact people kept using terms like "good" "nice" and the most loathsome "hero", she just saw herself as being not much better than the darkspawn.

Alistair actually did end up being her saving grace. She did develop relationships with the others, oddly enough the strongest friendship was with Morrigan and the two didn't see eye to eye at all. But I think it's because they were both strong women that respected each other.

Of course in my fanfic, Marlana wasn't afraid to tell people to grow up. ;)

When she recruited Howe in Awakening she did it out of pure maliciousness. Then somewhere along the lines he became a friend and another pain in the butt big brother.

Okay, I've got a question and figured I'd ask y'all first to see if any of you have a clue as to what's happened. I've been using the "Skip the Fade" mod for months, without trouble. But during this most current playthrough, while it worked insofar as it provided me with the abbreviated version of the Fade, I didn't get all of the Codex and extra Stats that usually show up once done.

I'm guessing it's conflicting with another mod (I've added several since my last Fade encounter) and was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and/or knows what caused the problem.

And just to keep this post, OT... here's some Alistair:
