Thanks:)

I'll never see it. This was the only time I spared him, and it won't happen again. And she wouldn't have seen it either, since she accepted the ritual anyhow.

Why does such finality make me sad? :crying:

Ah, well, this is the Alistair thread.

I dunno. At least I didn't delete the drunk Alistair ending, even if I didn't plan to have it to start with. I have...

1. Loghain spared, both him and the warden lived. Tess ended up with Zev.
2. Lyra the Dalish ended with Alistair as a Warden with her, Happy in Gwaren.
3. Caislyn Amell, Chancellor to King Alistair. Loghain died, For screwing with Jowan, screwing with templars, and permitting blood mages to use the elves.
4. Aidan Aeducan, Alistair is King, She's off with Zev and the Wardens or She returned to Orzammar, can't remember. Loghain dead because of not just his crimes, but she'd REALLY had enough of being called a murderer when she had never murdered anyone.
5. Serena Aeducan, was in a romance with Alistair as King, went to rebuild the wardens, not my canon DNF so she killed Loghain just because.
6. Kasha Cousland, Queen to be. No chance for Loghain even if she wasn't...he rewarded Howe repeatedly knowing what he did to her family and their friends.
7. Tryna Brosca, She'll probably marry Alistair to Anora...Loghain likely dies. I just can't forgive the guy for what he's done to not just Wardens, but things he let Howe do, and the slavery...seeing the City elves treated that way is just too close to home for her.
8.  Jess Tabris...City Elf, no way Loghain lives with her. Not. ever.

That leaves only the Warden Commander and Ultimate Sacrifice endings, and I won't do them. I did them for the achievements on throw away characters though.

I didn't miss out on him. I exhausted all his conversation options while he was in my party, I took the time to hear the banters between the party members. I even took him back to Ostagar with Wynne. The things pointed out at the top of Ft Drakon, Tess would not have gotten because she chose the ritual anyhow. So noone was going to die up there. Now I'll get to see his cameo in Awakening on at least one character, and have the Wandering Drunk save for DA2.

The only thing I'm not doing, is starting another playthrough for it. Because I already, as you can see have 4 in progress, and ALL of them have to go through Awakening, Golems, and Witch Hunt still, before I eventually burn out..:)

Ah, well, this is the Alistair thread.

I was just having this convo with cmess, since she's doing a spare Loghain run and likes him now.  She was sharing some interesting conversations.

I've always liked his character, and in some ways I feel incredibly bad for him, especially after reading the novels.  He is very much a tragic character.  However, and this is a mighty big however, his actions throughout the game prevent me from sparing him.  It would be easier if his actions towards the Warden weren't so damnable.  Or if I didn't have to make things RP based.

Maybe if I play my drow, she'll do it since, well, I'ma hate that character anyway.

Edit for fail typing.

Thats exactly it.

I do not hate Loghain. I've read The Calling, and TST, I've gone through the dialog with him, even RtO which was really amazing in my opinion. Much better even, than with Alistair. But if I hadn't accidently hit the point of no return with Tess, I'd never be able to spare him in the game on a character I enjoy. Not because of Ostagar, not even because of the assassination attempts. But the torture of innocents, the allowing of blood mages to use City Elves, and sell them as slaves, and as a Cousland, the fact that he KNEW what Howe did to Bryce and Eleanor, and just kept patting him on the head...he's damned himself.

When it comes to it, really, Alistair's arguments are far more shallow than I'd like, and have no bearing on that choice at all. Though some would love to believe us Ali lovers only kill him because of Alistair, it just ain't so.

Edit: I'm not sure shallow was the right word. short sighted maybe? He's focused fully on Ostagar, when I'd rather see him point out the other things too, since my PC is mute and can't do it >.<

Sorry if this sounds like a daft question but where did Alicorn come from anyway? Is it just something of Aimo's creation or is it the work of some of the weird and wonderful people on this forum?

I do not like Loghain. His character is still kind of off-putting for me. Maybe it's because I'm working on a story that is showing the consequences of the Blight. I'm trying to find a reason why Redcliffe would oppose Denerim and what I came up with is not pretty.

I agree, however, that Loghain is the only character with decent bits of dialogue at Ostagar.

One my canon playthroughs is a Loghain Redeemer ending and it's still my favourite, because I like angst and heartbreak. The other canon character's ending changed with my perception of Ostagar. She killed Loghain, but only because Alistair married Anora, so she could sure there wouldn't be any repercussions.

I wonder, how much of this is due to the fact that the game originally intended Loghain to betray Cailan for his marriage plans with Celene.

Of course, I'd like to think there's more to my favourite character than short-sighted revenge, it's so strange that Alistair and Loghain should have been in the same party when Loghain's retreat was meant to be a betrayal, but you can talk to neither of them about Ostagar (not before the Landsmeet.)

But that's something for fanfiction, the way it is portrayed in Origins Alistair's arguments are shallow and short-sighted. *sigh*

The Zevran thread came up with the Alicorn. He's also called Princess' Pretty Pony.
Princess is a Princess Cous Cous (romancing Alistair) parody.

One could say it might have started as a trolling attempt (who would say such a thing?), most Ali fans, however, were a good sport and adopted the Alicorn.

Thanks for going into such detail. That dialogue (Esp. with ejoslin's Friendly patch) is on YT. I understand not wanting to do another playthrough. My reaction was the other way around though. I rarely, if ever, not spare him. But then again, you know....:P

Well, I don't want to start another Loghain vs. Alistair discussion. Let me just point out why I nearly always spare him (Yes, my CEs too):

1) I will not butcher him in front of his daughter. That cutscene makes me feel like such a hypocrite... And my HNs have seen their father die. No way are they going to inflict that upon another soul, no matter if they like/dislike Anora. And having watched a parent die myself (My mother died of cancer), I simply cannot and will not do it.

2) Riordan has a point. He is a Senior Warden. If forced to choose between his arguments and Alistair's, Riordan all the way.

3) I believe in redemption, plain and simple.

4) Slavery is awful. But especially when not playing as a CE my Warden sees it as what it is: A nasty side-product of war that has happened a lot. And has been endorsed by my great generals the world respects and reveres. (Caesar. Alexander. Hannibal.) Or by rulers we usually cite as examples of greatness: I.E. Elizabeth I. Does the plight of the elves not move me? Sure it does. I abhor slavery. But that's my emotional reaction. My Wardens are usually very hardened, pragmatic ladies at this point who free the elves but know that killing Loghain will not improve their lot.

5) The novels.

6) Were I in his shoes & with the Wardens' history of betrayal and treason (A coup, siding with the Architect etc. and he knows all this!): I'd not trust the Wardens either. The delayed signal. Their miraculous survival. He couldn't have known about Flemeth flying up there to save you... So I don't blame him for his suspicions. Especially since once he finds out he was wrong, he is willing to sacrifice his life and soul to save my Warden, save Ferelden and atone.

My meagre two cents. Take them for whatever they are worth. I am not saying that there aren't compelling reasons to execute him. I am merely trying to explain why I cannot bring myself to do it. Mostly. And if I do, I have to fast forward/look away.

And an Alistair:

To be fair, if there was an option to spare Loghain AND convince Alistair that it is the right thing to do without him leaving, I think more people would spare him.

Well, keeping Alistair has never been my issue, even though most of my gals usually fall for him. I suppose that is DAO's Virmire decision. Buuuuuuuuuut: Phaonica's Loghain expansion will make this possible, if my memory serves me right.

On topic: In my most recent playthrough I did not take Alistair to Redcliffe. So I won't find out just who my Warden is falling for until I awaken Eamon. Is it worth the wait? (Trying to do things I haven't done yet in this one. I.E. Killing Connor. And I may have hated Isolde before........but her pleas........DAMN!)

Oh, I know why people spare him, and as the player, I could see it happening.  However, the characters in the situation don't have the same info I do.  I don't want to turn this into a debate either, but I don't think that's going to happen  We're being very civil.

1) I'd prefer to execute Loghain not in the Landsmeet chamber, but meh.  I can live with it.

2) Most of the time, I never hear Riordan's dialogue.  And when I do, Alistair's reaction sways me.  However shallow and childish people might find it, he's usually the only person I still have whom I love, and my PC is not going to let Loghain take that from her, too.

3) Not everyone deserves redemption, but if you want to consider it such, his execution can serve as that.

4) For some of my PCs, HNs in particular, there are just some things you don't do as a Fereldan and slavery is one of them.  You just...don't do it.

5)  Characters have never read the novels.

6)  Again, characters don't know all that history.

This is all RP-based, mind you.  I try not to use meta-knowledge when I play.

Did you ever get that Duncan dialogue to show up?  Sorry if you said and I missed it.
