It probably helps that Garrus is the one out of them three that you've potentially already spent one whole game with. With every other character from ME giving you pretty much cold shoulder he's like the only old friend that knows you and trusts you no matter what. That's huge.

Add the vaguely cat-like face and the voice, and it's no contest >:3

As much as I liked Kaidan in ME1 this is what happened in ME2 for my femshep who romanced him:
COOL! Its Kaidan!
Oh noes he is paralyzed!
I saved him!
WHY ARE YOU YELLING AT ME!
WHY IS YOUR EMAIL SO LAME!
Then Garrus showed up, heatsinks were popped and Kaidan was left to QQ.

I do have a loyal shep, but for Anna Shepard, Kaidan and her are over.

Like Alistair's LM-flipping, I can understand Kaidan's reason for going ballistic at that point...and it's very realistic. Would Kaidan have caved in to her immediately, I would have lost my respect for his character. Like Alistair's LM-reaction it was very fitting to Kaidan's character to react like that. Oh and that my Shep is very much into him helped in that case too. Was she pissed? Yes sure, but after the rush of emotions had abated, she understood him. Garrus is my bro, just like Zevran is always in DA.
