Found the problem! Woot! I missed the first "king" line the last time around. Saw it this time and avoided a bunch of other dialog I'd gotten before, but still wound up where I could persuade him that being a king wasn't a punishment. So, got through the scene without losing approval and he's still flagged as in love.
Now to go work out his punishment.

I don't know. I don't think so. I think it takes both lines. But I have never tried to only use one without the persuade so I don't know for sure.
