So he's playing a teacher who becomes a hero of the round table in an alternate reality... With that voice? Works for me, I think he owes Alistair this role, good on him... Nice way to get kids interested in history too...

Okay not to detract attention from the new prompt, which sounds rather fun and I may have to join in, but I've been working on more tattoo's.

Here are the celtic/tribal themed ones.

Choices

"There were times Alistair almost wished he'd never left the Chantry."

Because there everything had been certain and clear, they told you what was right and what was wrong, what to think and even what to feel…

Whereas out here, in the real world, everything was confused and messy. Mages could be good and Templars bad. Assassins and bards were the most faithful of the Maker’s followers. Qunaris seemed to have the key to a balanced existence. Everything you had been taught and believed was quickly challenged and possibly proved wrong.

Ah yes, you were free but the price of freedom was choice, and, in most cases, until you actually exercised that choice, it was not clear whether you had made the right or the wrong one. Hell, in some cases you were not going to know until months or even years had passed, and, in a few, you were never going to know.

That’s why one of the first decisions he had made was that he was not going to be the one who made the main decisions. Morrigan had mocked him for that, but he felt it was the right way to go, he had faith but lacked intuition, loyalty but not decisiveness, so everything had fallen on the little mage just out of the Tower, and so far… Well, that had actually been a good choice…

And here he was, about to make a key decision. One that could change it all, forever… He needed to get things into proportion. When it came down to it he thought, he was just a man, she was just a woman, and as his hand tightened around its thorns, this was just a simple flower. A rose was a rose was a rose… but sometimes it was everything… all your hopes and fears in one tender bloom.

Here goes…

@Maria13: That's so sweet! I like how his mind was blown from practically the minute he left and your reasoning behind his putting a raw recruit in charge actually makes sense. I wonder how giving her the rose will go...

"There were times Alistair almost wished he'd never left the Chantry."

A Bad Day

“Put these on,” said Alistair, handing Morrigan a set of leathers from the party’s spare gear.  “And leave the staff behind.”

I will not!” replied Morrigan, indignant.  “You are a fool to even suggest such a thing!” she said, flinging the armor across the room.

Alistair sighed, rubbing his head in a vain attempt to thwart the headache he could feel coming on.  “Do you want to get us all arrested, or worse, killed?  We’re heading to the Circle of Magi, in case you’ve forgotten; not exactly the place to be parading an obvious apostate around.”

“Let them try to take me into custody.  They would not stand a chance against me and my magic,” she said, storming out of the room.

Alistair sighed again as he picked up the discarded clothing and returned it to their traveling chest.  It was not yet dawn and he could already tell this was going to be a bad day.  He left the room in search of Aurora; perhaps she could talk some sense into Morrigan for the Maker alone knew, he couldn’t.

Belch!” he heard upon entering the common room of the Spoiled Princess.  “By the stones this is good ale!  Pour me another, wench!” bellowed Oghren, holding up his empty mug.

“Oghren!” said Alistair, grabbing the tankard out of the dwarf’s hands.  “Enough!  We need you sober.”

“Sober?  You want me sober?” Oghren replied, slurring his words.  “Trust me, sober is the last thing you want me to be,” he said, jumping up in an effort to reach the mug Alistair was holding high over his head.

“Have you seen Aurora?” Alistair asked, still holding the empty cup out of reach.

“I believe she went out,” replied Zevran from behind the body of a nubile young waitress snuggled on his knee.

Does no one sleep around here?” Alistair thought as he made his way to the door.

He hadn’t made it two steps outside before the earth shook under his feet.  “Andraste’s ashes!” he yelled, seeing the source of the disturbance across the courtyard, in the form of a large golem.  “Shale!  By the Maker!  What are you doing?”

“Damnable birds!” exclaimed Shale, stomping another chicken.

“Stop that!  We will have to pay for all those chickens you’ve killed!” screamed Alistair, his headache full blown now.

Shale stopped and looked around at the bloody mess.  “Sorry,” she said, dipping her head in shame.  “I couldn’t help myself.  They just kept clucking and would not be still!”

“Have you seen Aurora?” he asked, wearily.

“Down by the lake, I think,” replied Shale, trying vainly to brush the mutilated bodies of the dead chickens under a bush.

Alistair headed towards the lake, not even noticing the beautiful sunrise spreading its warm glow across the water.

“I will cut out their tongues, as is proper,” said Sten, stroking the knife in his hand.

“You will do no such thing!” replied Aurora.  “That is not how things are done here in Ferelden.”

“That should be remedied.  Immediately.”

“What’s this?” Alistair asked, coming up to them.

“The Qunari cut out the tongues of their mages,” said Aurora.

“Perhaps that might not be such a bad idea,” replied Alistair, thinking of how his morning had begun.

“Unexpected,” replied Sten.

“What?  You can’t be serious!” exclaimed Aurora.

“By the Maker, I swear there are times I wish I’d never left the Chantry and today is one of them,” he said, taking a seat on a nearby log.

Aurora came and sat down beside him, taking his hand in hers.  “Truly?”

Alistair looked into her eyes and the day began to brighten.  “Almost.”

Ok, you ladies from over at cme's know I like Alistair, and change his appearance, but this prompt just brought the old frat bro thing about Alistair out this morning. I pick on the lad, but he's my bro. So here is why Alistair at times wishes he were still in the Chantry:

Tigress M: Oh, wow. It figures that all of the companions would have to choose to start acting up all at once. I especially liked Shale belatedly realizing her chicken massacre was going to cause problems and Sten making plans to 'fix' the Ferelden mages. Morrigan had better watch herself. At least he had one bright spot.

RagingCyclone: Lol. Image IPB Not like he would ever admit it.

@Briiel! OMG! I love that pic and would have never thought to post it here. Good idea!

@FFZero - you're doing great on those tats! I especially like the second one.

@Sarah! Great prompt and a fantastic way to kick this off!

@ Maria - Wonderful prompt! That was really a beautiful take on his early days out in the world. And as Sarah said, it explains the reasoning behind letting your Warden lead.

@Schratty - You broke my heart but that was lovely, simply lovely!

@ Maria: I especially love the last full paragraph. Very beautiful!

@ Tigress: Haha, I think it's kind of interesting to see Alistair as the peace keeper. I always imagined that was the Warden's job, but I really like your take. Very "lol" worthy.

@ RagingCyclone: In a word? PRICELESS. <3

@ Schratty, touching. I hate to see my bro crushed. And you nailed it showing his pain. Beautifully done.

@Sarah - Thanks! I really do see Shale that way, reacting before thinking but then regretting it. I love Shale and I see her really struggling to fit into the world again.

@Schratty - Yeah, Alistair normally isn't the peace keeper in my mind either, but my Warden seems to have had her hands full this morning with the Sten so he was forced to pick up the slack. Poor guy.

And get out of my head! I laughed when I saw that you'd called RC's photonip "priceless"!

There were times Alistair almost wished he’d never left the Chantry. AKA Why you shouldn't drink with Oghren.

Waking up to an aching head, was bad enough. But then he made the mistake of trying to move and realized that “ache” was a gross understatement. His head felt like an overripe melon and threatened to wobble off. The wobbling off part didn’t sound too bad, then he wouldn’t be hurting so much. Then his gut cramped up and he wondered which would be worse:
rolling over to puke, or trying to hold it in?

             “Alistair?”

He whimpered. Her normally soft, sweet voice was anything but. He’d never heard
her yell like that before, even when he and Morrigan had been constantly at each other’s throats at the start of the Blight. Oh, he’d gotten her to scream more than once, but that was under far more pleasant circumstances.

“Maker’s breath, what did you do to yourself?”

Alistair managed to groan out, “Not so loud.”

He could feel the scowl, which was good, because he suspected if he opened his eyes it
would be really, really bad. And not because of Marlana scowling down at him.
Her voice sharpened into scalpel sharpness, “I’m barely whispering.”

Then he heard the source of all his misery as he heard Oghren’s chortle which made his
queasiness become something much worse. The former templar just barely managed to roll over to vomit on the ground and not on himself. At least he thought it was the ground, he hoped it was the ground, but knew his hopes were in vain with a stifled snicker from Marlana as Oghren growled, “Nug-humper!”

Rather bravely, or so he thought, he cracked open one eye and whimpered again as brilliant light
seared through.  He quickly closed it again, because he realized he didn’t get the ground. He felt a bit of satisfaction though, at least he’d gotten Oghren. Served the dwarf right for whatever the
drunken ass gave him. He’d take one of Lana’s poisons any day, they at least killed a person quickly. Or at least, didn’t drag things out this way.

“Oghren, since I’m going to assume you’re responsible for this mess, I’m leaving you to
clean it.”

As Oghren stomped off muttering further curses, and Alistair deeply wished the dwarf
wasn’t quite so loud, Lana dragged his sorry butt out of bed. He was too miserable to pay attention to where she pushed, pulled and prodded him to until he was unceremoniously dumped into a bath of ice cold water. Yelping, he tried to get out, but was too uncoordinated to do anything but flail about.

There were times Alistair almost wished he’d never left the Chantry. As his love grabbed
his head to pour something vile down his throat to deal with the hangover, Alistair realized this was one of those times.

Thanks. We were discussing the past couple of days at cme's how Alistair seems to like staring at the warden's...behind...even to the point Wynne calls him on it. And then this popped in my head this morning. Now we know why he stares at the warden soooo much. lol
