@Addai, I'm just going by what I did with a hardened Alistiar on my two King endings.

Right, he does always renounce his claim if the Warden/ the Landsmeet decides against him.  Unlike another candidate who shall not be named!  What I was talking about is how he talks about the kingship in general or if you ask him who you should choose etc.

For my playthroughs he was still on the fence about it. Even after killing Loghain he was asking me what I thought, and still thought .......(I'll leave her name out) would be a good queen.  So he does a lot of back and forth about the kingship. For the HNF I don't know how he acts at the end yet (working on that) but from the HNM side he is indecisive about the throne right up until the choice is made.

Yes, I had someone check that once because I was surprised he said "I didn't want to be king, I still don't" even when hardened, and it is a bug.  He's only supposed to say that if unhardened.

It could be. I don't know if cme addressed the male side of the dialogue with IRS-A or not. I'm just going by what I have done and seen when my nobles have gotten there.

If not: She seems to want it, anyway, and I know I don't. So... yes? Maybe? I don't know.
Warden: Do you think you're ready to be king?
Alistair: As ready as anyone ever is, I suppose. Which is to say yes--I'm ready.
 
Unhardened:
Alistair: Strange, I feel like I'm back at the abbey, trying not to get chosen last for the sparring teams.
Warden: What makes you a better choice than Anora?
Alistair: This wasn't exactly my first choice when we got to Denerim, but... I know what we're up against. I know what's at stake.

If not: Anora's got experience handling nobles and foreign dignitaries, but I do know a few things about fighting darkspawn.

So basically the ‘should I choose Anora’ is the only part of the conversation where hardened Alistair doesn’t have any different lines but throughout all the rest of it, he’s positive that he wants to be queen. It IS really odd that he can tell you Anora isn’t an option and then, if you ask him that two seconds later, he’ll turn around and waffle.

I guess it's not much different actually, so you could get a very different impression based on what you ask him. Since I'm inclined to give him the kingship anyway, it does make a difference for my PCs to hear "I can do this" and "choose me." Of course, I was really blown away on the time he dueled Loghain and just went for it himself. No ambiguity there!

So Neria just finished another playthrough. I did some things I hadn't before this time. Done this lots though. Drenched in dragon blood yet somehow come out without a spot on her armor.

After the landsmeet, if you talk to Alistair, having not made him King, doesn't he thank you for it? I know if he's unhardened, he will, and I think if he's hardened, he'll say it's better Anora than him, but he's only barely all right with it. Or am I dreaming that?

He will thank you no matter what. If you ask if he's fine with not being king (paraphrased) then he'll respond with what you said based on whether he's hardened or not.

Slightly off-topic, but what's the mod that people use to get the hairy chested Alistair (I suppose it makes all human males hairy?)...I searched under hairy on dragon nexus and couldn't spot it?
