Slightly off-topic, but what's the mod that people use to get the hairy chested Alistair (I suppose it makes all human males hairy?)...I searched under hairy on dragon nexus and couldn't spot it?
It's Realistic Look, the Theseus Male file.
And because I can't resist... here's what it looks like on Alistair:

Yep, there's dialogue in the toolset that I haven't gotten, being in an active romance, but he can come right out and say that he didn't want it, but now he does. It's highly situational, and depends on your dialogue choices.Addai67 wrote...
Eh.. I think it is up for interpretation whether he does it gladly. Depending on dialogue choices, he says "pick me, Anora is not an option" and so on. But you can force matters and give Anora the throne.RagingCyclone wrote...
Alistair will still give up the throne hardened. He still does not want it. What I have done is have him duel Loghain and kill him. And when Eamon asks you to make your say, talk to Alistiar about giving up the throne, and he will. And when Anora says that Alistiar must give up claim to the throne, he gladly does. And, again, this is hardened Alistair.
I don't know if this helps a male PC who wants to marry Anora beforehand, though. You have to set up a marriage with her before the LM and not sure if that forces the game to the "Warden chooses" scene, as it would for an HNF in love him or if you've set up an Alistair-Anora marriage, or not. Someone with a toolset would have to check.
Ah, that explains it.Addai67 wrote...
Yes, I had someone check that once because I was surprised he said "I didn't want to be king, I still don't" even when hardened, and it is a bug. He's only supposed to say that if unhardened.Sarah1281 wrote...
Isn't the Alistair dialogue bugged there? He gives an unhardened response on several points.
That's a seriously heroic Oghren picture!

Though if he is unhardened you can have him execute Loghain then take the throne with Anora, and have him thank you for it.

He also thanks you for not giving him the throne if hardened. The only difference is that when asked if he's okay with Anora being queen, instead of saying "she was already queen, easiest oath I ever made", he says that he's not too happy with it, but better her than me.
His main issue when hardened is that he REALLY does not want Anora to be queen. He's more willing to take the throne, but it's still not what he really wants.

That's still a matter of interpretation. And whether you consider all possible lines part of his character, or just the ones your PC gets personally.Zjarcal wrote...

From the Dark Ritual:
Alistair: "Just agree? Just like that? No. Not based on what you've told me. I can't."
PC: "You would refuse? After everything I've done for you?"
Alistair: "You made me king, that's true. There was a time when I didn't want that, but I've changed."

Still, if he thanks me for not making him king even when hardened, that's pretty telling. I'm not saying he hates the idea of being king when hardened (which he does when unhardened), but it's still not hist first choice.
If it's done and he's king, he will accept it indeed, but if it can be avoided he does seem happier.

I know it's sort of open to interpretation and the fact that the dialogues are somewhat bugged doesn't help.

Random question out of the blue, do you go for the queen ending in your main game? I've always been sort of curious.

I've had several endings on my Cousland playthroughs--consort, getting dumped and being broken hearted (weirdly, this is also the one where she became chancellor. It was also a very powerful playthrough), getting dumped and agreeing that it's the right thing to do (and going back to the wardens), and on my male playthrough, parting as friends and travelling. No, wait. That was the one time I didn't harden Alistair, because I didn't know how. Both stayed with the wardens. My personal 'canon' playthrough was the consort ending, though.Zjarcal wrote...
Hehe, at least we know how to avoid a long and endless argument.

I like it that Alistair can have love and be king (In a public sort of way), and I like the follow through from Wynne's comments about love being selfish and my PC illustrating it wherever possible.

Really that dosent even enter my decision making process at all.
The whole DR scene really reeks of cuts, and afterthoughts though.

Mine either. But we're talking Morrigan here. What she perceives as a powerful argument is based on her personality and desires more than what's in character for a warden.

Alistair: When Arl Eamon said I was going to be king I thought, "That's it! Your worst fears have finally been realized!" (VO: a bit jokingly, but it was a serious situation for him)
Alistair: But you didn't make me king...and Loghain still got what he deserved. (VO: earnest thanks)
PC: You're ok with anora being queen?
Alistair: Barely, But better her than me, that's what I say (VO: said with a shrug--he's happier with this result, mostly)
So, yes, he clearly is happier, you're correct. And even when he accepts being King, his reasoning is to end the blight. He flat out TELLS you "If that's what it takes to end the blight" when you ask about losing his freedom.
