It's a pity really, that we don't get to know about them a lot. And the Libertarians are protrayed in negative light, of course (even Anders doesn't like them).

I always saw them as rather naive. They see problems with mages and the rest of society, don't think those problems will ever change, and so want to go live completely apart from the rest of the world and never interact with anyone else...yeah, that usually doesn't work out very well.

Edit: And they seem rather pointless as well. The greatest victory they could ever win would be getting all the other mages to support them in which case...they'd be crushed by templars and have even more restrictions on mages in the future. Image IPB

Sheesh has Bob become the new "Ron" in the absence of SurelyForth? Enough about Bob already. I find the DC my least favorite origin. I couldn't even get one INTO Ostagar. It's all well and good to squee if you want but why not make a squee thread for Bob in the forums instead of hijacking Alistair's thread for page after page of Bob related posts.

A post or two is fine esp as relates to the topic or for RDT or Derp days or something but going on and on and on about the character for pages and pages is frankly boring to me. I appreciate that you like your character and are having fun but I feel no connection to him whatsoever. And would prefer reading posts about Alistair (or Alistair related topics) in Alistair's squee thread.

Bob is so much better than my DC thug Phillip. He killed the Ostagar prisoner to get the key. When Alistair asks why, he just replied "He was going to die anyway."

Bob gave him the food mostly because he remebered starving at some points.
Bob does have a weak spot for the poor and hungry people, mostly because he remebers what its like to be like that.

Dosent stop him from robbing people who can afford it though!
Bob is like a mix between Duncan, Malcolm Reynolds and Nobby Nobbs really.

Phillip is an out and out thug, but his turn-around is coming. Leliana will be the beginning, but I think Leske's betrayal will be the turning point when he reaches it. What I do with him afterwards I have not decided yet. And right now he loves needling Alistair. But that time will change too and Alistair will become his main man to turn to.

Those are not Libertarians. Those are the Isolationists.

I do not agree with the Libertarians fully, but out of all fraternities, they seem to be the most villanised. I am pretty sure there are different strands of Libertarians, some more radical than others. The Mage collective for instance, sounds more Libertarian than the other types of Fraternities.

Oh, right. Libertarians are the ones who just want to declare independence from the Chantry and hope that the army of templars who can neutralize their magic in seconds and render all but those who have mastered the lost art of the arcane warriors completely helpless. The mage collective works because not everyone knows about them and they clearly have to bribe quite a few people. No matter how popular being able to control themselves is among the mages, until they convince the common people it will never happen as the Chantry won't want to give up their power until they're sufficiently pressured to. Uldred's rebellion and the story of Redcliffe will have set them back quite a bit even if mages DO help in the final battle.

I dunno, the templars seem rather like Keystone Kops, as Morrigan points out. At least the Ferelden branch. Maybe we will see bigger and badder versions in DA2.

P.S. I love going back with a mage character and giving Greagoir all the responses that basically tell him templars are pitiful.  Even though Greagoir himself doesn't really deserve it (much).

@ Sarah.

Yes, and that's why I would have liked if the Libertarians were presented as more nuanced, as to not make it look like all of them are short sighted revolutionaries. They could have showed some Libertarians being more moderate and seeking reforms + activism (collective).

Well there are new branches we get to see in DA2.

Cassandra is a seeker apparently and their job is to watch over the templars.

Being led by someone who allowed himself to be posessed by a demon so he could force the rest of the mages to bow to his vision doesn't exactly cast them in a good light.  Suppose that somebody felt the mages needed to have freedom from the circle in order to use his talents to serve mankind as the maker intended them to--would he still be a libertarian or would that make him a libertarian-leaning equitarian?  It seems to me a valid viewpoint to say that the Mage's circle doesn't really serve mankind very well in the current situation.

I still wish there was a Templar Origin.
They would not have even had to build a new area for it, the mages tower is already there.

You could get some lines with Morrigan and Alistair about it too.
Because that would just be funny an templar romancing Morrigan? Sitcom material there.

What a great idea for a mod! It could also be a commoner. It would have to be a warrior, but still.... I'm going to have to consider that....

Well there was a commenor Origin, and a barbarian origin at one time (both cut).
I would have loved to play as an Templar but writing it from the opposite side of the mage origin.

Uldred summoning demons was when he was trapped in a corner. We do hear some of them not being happy about this and that they never planned for this.
I don't think any of them knew that Uldred knew demonology or that he intented to summon demons.

But those who followed him do practise blood magic, yes.

I miss Ron...

And I think Bob is funny. It's really no different than the rest of us plugging in our character's thoughts, Lenya comes to mind, I've done it too fairly often. Sometimes ya just run out of Alistair...lol

If people want I will stop talking about Bob.

I just use him as an example for some choices since he is my most unique warden.

This!

It all comes back to Alistair eventually and talking about our characters (or plugging them) can be a nice distraction.

Yeah we all talk about our PCs and other NPCs.  Doesn't bother me.

I did think Bob must have stolen some of Ron's "three letters with an o in the middle" cachet.  LOL

I love hearing about Alistair's reactions to Bob's actions, as I like hearing about others' PCs and the way their games progress. It's the way we get to explore different aspects of behaviour of the NPCs, and their effect on Alistair's story.

Exploring the different PC's we have is how we can see how Alistair is seen by others. Yesterday's discussion about his like or dislike of becoming king shows this perfectly. Depending on the dialogue choices a pc makes will affect how we perceive Alistair.

I think Alistair is happy at the end of Bob's story.

He is a hardened king, where Loghain is dead.

He is NOT married to Anora.

He did NOT have to sleep with Morrigan.

Both Bob and him are alive, and well that should make him happy.

Plus he does not ever know about the DR since Bob did it by himself.

Ohh, yeah, I forgot all about that, Alistair never has to know about the DR if you play a male PC. I've only played one so far, want to play another but I hate the way the male players run, it's hard to get used to. It is nice there is a difference, though.

That's another thing I hope they fix in Dragon Age 2.

Some of the models, and animations are just bad in Origins.

@Zjarcal.

I thought you liked seeing Nate run, especially when your one warden was chasing him with a certain toy.

Well, they did a good job differentiating between the men and women running, but I never get used to all the flying elbows and knee action of the guys.  And, no, it's not only you!  :)

I enjoy reading about Bob.  He inspired me to finally find a way to get into the DC origin.  I think Alistair is amused, but worried about the results.

Well but that was a different scenario... and the shot was sideways so it wasn't so cringe worthy.  :D

Mina just loves to torture people (unlike Dana who likes being tortured). Ooops, here I am plugging my characters! =]
