Hah! Perfect

I won't ask why he's cradling cheese without a shirt on, though. Once you open that pandora's box, you can never close it.

PROMPT: Everyone has a dark(er) side

Alistair sat against the wall of the cell and cast a worried glance at the still unconscious Elissa. He had seen a side of her at Howe's dungeon that he had never seen before. Elissa had never liked killing. Of course she would do what she had to to survive but she never liked it. Closing his eyes, Alistair was taken back to their time in Lothering. They had gotten supplies, recruited a couple of people to their cause, and even earned some gold but as they were leaving, they were surrounded by refugees who wanted the bounty Loghain offered for any Grey Warden alive or dead. There was no reasoning with them for they were desperate and starving. They ended up having to kill them and it weighed on Elissa's conscious for days afterwards.

Witnessing her at Howe's dungeon was completely different however. The minute Riordan escaped, her expression changed. She unsheathed her family sword and looked at it and Alistair knew she was taken back to that night where she had to flee her family home. It was almost like she was preparing for the moment when she would see Howe.

Morrigan and Zevran were with them and both looked at Elissa with a new found respect as she lay waste to everyone of Howe's men that crossed her path. She did it with a malicious glee that was disturbing to watch.

And then the moment came and she encountered Howe. Alistair could not believe how much this man reeked of maliciousness and evil. Anger filled Alistair as he listened to Howe taunt her and when looking at Elissa, he could see she was using every bit of strength and will to not become undone. Morrigan quickly dispatached one of the mages as Zevran and Alistair worked on others while Elissa fought Howe.

Howe collapsed on the ground as Elissa plunged her family's sword in him. Covered in blood she turned to look at them.

"Maker spit on you! I deserved...more!"

Elissa screamed and plunged the sword into Howe again. Zevran helped Alistair pull Elissa away and Morrigan used the few healing spells she learned from Wynne to heal them.

"It's done." Elissa wiped the tears from her face.

Alistair watched her pick up Howe's weapon and hand it to Zevran. "This is for you. You were right when you told me that some people deserve to die."

"Lets go check the other wing of the dungeon to see if anyone else needs rescued."

After rescuing the queen, they were surrounded by Cauthrien and her soldiers. Alistair could not believe it when Elissa surrendered willingly. They were taken to Fort Drakon, where they were forciably stripped and thrown into a cell.

He had woken up and was concerned when he could not wake Elissa.

Slowly she moaned and started to stir. She seemed her old self again. Alistair realized he could accept what happened at Howe's dungeon.

 :wizard: YES It's fixed!!

A toolset picture for the prompt:

*picture removed for a rendering error. See new pic below*

Of course, how dark it is depends entirely on how one feels about maleficars. ;)

Oh wow, that's really great!

And yes, I do feel it's very dark (surprise! :D). Although I also did it on my current playthrough (with a character who certainly has a very dark side).

Quick question, since I've never had Alistair in the party when confronting the blood mage in the tower, how does he react to her? And does he disapprove if you let her go?

He makes some very snarky remarks about her redeeming herself and there's an interesting conversation between him and Leli (if they're in the party together) about how they each see the chantry. But you don't lose approval.

If anyone disapproves the most, it's Wynne. But you don't lose any approval with her either.

@Xts - I know! He's loved millions of Wardens, I'm sure. And it's funny you should mention that because I remember feeling a little awkward in my second playthrough when he started hitting on my Warden. For a brief moment, I was like, "Wait a second! You thought my elf was a 'rare and wonderful thing' once, too!"

You know something? That's when I began to think on how many have kissed him! My 2nd time around when my elf got involved on accident. I meant to go for another for the achievements but darn Alistair and his charm got me.. I couldn't say anything mean.. so I didn't and wala, another relationship..  It's weird how this pixel character has me so, I don't even know a word for it! Image IPBImage IPBImage IPB

He doesn't disapprove of letting her go, no. The only time he chimes in is when she starts talking about how she wants to seek pennance at the Chantry.

"You know, they'll never take you. They're very picky about who they'll let in. Harlets, murderers, yes! Maleficarum, oh no."
"Your comments betray your ignorance, Alistair. The Chantry accepts all, no matter what they've done."
"Well it seems you're familiar with an entirely different Chantry because the one I know wouldn't hesitate to drive a sword of mercy right through her heart."

At which point you can either agree with Alistair or Leliana, or tell them both to be quiet. No approval loss for anyone that I've seen.

@Reika and bleetman:

Thank you! I would've thought he'd be very angry if you chose to let her go.

I had missed this post, but I just wanted to point that this is the reason why I can't have different wardens romancing the same character. I know, it's REALLY silly, but it would totally ruin it for me to see a LI romancing another character and hearing those same romance dialogues happen with someone else. Kind of like, "oh, so you'll say that to ANYONE!!". :P

Silly, I know.

It sems to me he disapproves of blood magic AND the chantry equally. I let her go any time I play a mage.

@Persephone - Wow. That was incredible. To have so much love for each other and yet be standing on either side of an uncrossable chasm... intense.

@Yankee - That is excellent! Definitely deserving of a few chuckles. Nicely done!

I don't take it that way, in part because he warden can choose who to agree with, essentially either agreeing with Alistair's view, Leliana's view, or neither. Of course, you don't get diapprova/approval from anyone, suggesting that no one feels really, really strongly about it.

his VIEW is of the CHANTRY not the blood mage. Leliana's view is of the CHANTRY not the blood mage. You're only agreeing with their view on the CHANTRY itself. Not on whether she is deserving of mercy, not on whether to run a sword of mercy through her heart. You are simply agreeing on whether the chantry is vindictive or merciful, not on what to do with the blood mage.

Thank you. It was very hard to write. I love both of these characters SO much (Rhiannon is my canon Warden), it hurt to see them in such grief and despair. I am glad you liked it. It means a lot.

Heh, well, I disagree with that interpretation. That's okay, isn't it? ;)
