Grrr.  I just spent 4 hours shopping for Thanksgiving, including going halfway across the city to get a fresh turkey because all the stores near me were sold out!

A silly Alistair smile.

@Schratty
Ack.  :?
I think this means I'm a bad, bad Alistair girl.  Because the first thought that popped into my head was ... my Amell married to Teagan!

@ Briiel & Zjarcal: Thanks so much :D

@ KoP: I contemplated that scenario as well, but ultimately, I fell back on the old saying, "If I can't have you, no one can." Haha :P

@ tuppence: Haha, hey, I've got no qualms with some Banhammering :B

Comments:

@ Sarah: I love the build-up to that pivotal line before Loghain's execution. I think few (if any) Alistair moments are anywhere near as dark as that one scene.

@ Tigress M: A good plot point to write on, for sure. I think you did an excellent job describing his inner struggle and reasoning with the whole Dark Ritual situation.

RagingCyclone: Wow, Alistair is almost unrecognizable O: But, I think his unfortunate fate is well-represented on his face. Poor AliBear :(

@ bleetman: A concise, yet powerful description of Alistair and the Warden's Calling. I'm now going to have to Google pictures of cute, frolicking puppies...

@ Lady Damodred: I really liked the final part where Alistair confronts Kalea. It was very heartwarming and heart wrenching all at the same time. I also appreciated the fact that the story ended on a somewhat darker note, despite Alistair having "won" Kalea's heart.

@ Lady Jess: Protective Alistair is so dashing. I can completely see him being a little overprotective of his sister warden in a romance with Zev.

@ Persephone: A poetically written confrontation between two betrayed parties. Very emotive :)

@ Yankee23: I ♥ your picture. The cheese junkie is getting his fix ;)

@ Melca36: I always thought a more dynamic cut scene for the Cousland PC killing Howe would have been nice. In lieu of that, I think you provided a nice substitute :)

Reika: Possibly one of the darker submissions I've read thus far, but very powerful in that respect. I couldn't help but be reminded of the following exchange: PC: I would never hurt you. Alistair: Nor I you.

@ ErrantKnight: Alistair does seem slightly fanatical when it comes to blood magic and its practitioners.

@ Gilsa: A nice drawing (as I've come to expect from you :P ). He's definitely stuck between a rock and a hard place, the poor guy :(

@ Merilsell: Somewhat reminiscent of the CE Origin (one of my favs, btw) toward the end. Maybe I'm just a sucker, but I really like stories where the Knight in Shining Armor rescues the Damsel in Distress. A good read, for sure :)

Not how I would put it, exactly as my PC does the same with that particular one Image IPB, but I'm glad you found it in character.

@ Axekix - any specific angles? And do you want Mori in those shots?

@ Yankee - nice screenshot!  Where is that from?

@Sky...Tower of Ishal right before passing out.

@Schratty...well done.  Thoughts that he would rather see her dead than happy in the context that if she were dead, he could grieve and remember happier times than relive the pain of her happiness without him over and over...not something I think he would be proud of, hence the prompt, but not ooc.

@Schratty - Love the drawing! I would HOPE that's OOC for Alistair, but either way, it's intense.

I could imagine it would smart.
I mean he comes back to tell someone he has to "offically" leave her, but wants her still.
She tells him to sod off, since she wont be anyone's second fiddle.
Then she goes on to marry someone else and is happy, and he is left alone.

I mean to see that  someone he thought loved him reject him and then go on to be happy would hurt.

I imagine he was angry when my one Dalish girl dumped him for lying about being the next possible king for so long. The first man she liked  (a shem) lies to her for so long yah that went over well for her.

Schratty - The thought of Alistair being the obssessed, bitter, male version of Alex Forest in Fatal Attraction is chilling. I have goosebumps thinking about it. And...P.S. - I really love how you draw your Alistair :)

@ Yankee - Ah, ok! I didn't recognize w/o the arrows. For a second there she looked possessed :P

Shratty: Me likey. Is it wrong that I chortled when I saw it? XD

And yeah, it did end on a dark note even though Kalea was "his" now. Note the possessive. It's a good thing she's not gonna make him king. He might chain her in the basement to keep her with him.

*is jesting*

Thanks, Bleetman.  Yes, it's the Witcher armor.  Zev looks good in the black one.

Prompt 02: "Everyone has a dark(er) side."

Bann Teagan.

[snip awesome drawing]

That was a great idea! I can see why some would be surprised that Alistair would want someone dead than happy after being broken up with, but it makes perfect sense. How many women have we seen take Alistair's break-up badly to the point where they want to kill him in most of their games? Stands to reason that the shoe could easily fit on the other foot. Good theme to explore for inner darkness.

I'd hope he would take the breakup a little better than an angry forum fangirl (he's supposed to be a King!)... but you may be right!

Do you think he'd ever act on it?  Could he?  IMO any non-mage Warden stomps Alistair 10/10 head to head... but maybe through some indirect means?

Completely unrelated to the current topic:

I've heard that there's a conversation where Alistair tells the PC his father died before he was born, which must obviously take place before Redcliffe, but I've spent two hours digging through the toolset, and I can't find anything like that. Does anyone know where I might find it? I'm mostly curious about the VO notes, if there are any. Or does this conversation even exist?

@Pudi...iirc it's part of the "so this Arl Eamon raised you" tree if you ask before redcliffe.

Edit: Yep, it leads to "He wasn't your father? So you know who is?" and he responds "I know who I was told was my father. He died even before my mother did, anyhow. It isn't important." No VO notes.

I don't know if he'd act on it. That's why I like these prompts -- you sit there and think about it the "what ifs." Since Schratty said that Alistair was hardened, it's plausible that he could act on it since he gives in to his selfish needs a bit more. My take on it that he probably would not think twice about sending the Grey Warden off on a dangerous assignment, but I don't think he'd send an assassin after her. It's Bann Teagan's wife, after all.

My Alistair art explored a similiar theme in could he or would he get rid of his Cousland wife and his supposed heir? There are so many variables to consider such as whether he's hardened or not and so on. The one thing that drives Alistair is his desire for a family. He's already in the position where Morrigan walks off with his actual child that he'll never see and since he's trapped being a king, Cousland has a child with someone else so he still doesn't have a family of his own. How far would he go to get the family he really wants? Would he divorce Cousland and make other arrangements for the kid or would he be the surrogate father so his non-child does not share the same fate as him? There are no answers, only possibilites.

I can't wait to see the next prompt. =p

@ Gilsa: Thank you for your kind words! Also,  a very astute analysis, methinks. I think Alistair (hardened) would, at the very least, have few scruples about sucking as much happiness from the PC and Teagan's marriage as possible. Even putting the Warden's life at risk (as you stated).

As for your take on the prompt, I don't think an unhardened Alistair could bring himself to sell the baby to the Crows. In fact, I almost feel like maybe he might try and delude himself into thinking he has the family he always wanted (despite being in a political marriage and raising another man's bastard)...Though, I'm not entirely certain. A hardened Alistair....hmm... Definitely something to ponder :)

Schratty well done. I can see him doing that just simply based on his reaction if you spare Loghain. He does have that darker greedier side that he definitely wants things his way.

Schratty,

Your pic was awesome! :) I wrote a fan fic once where Alistair dumps my noble because of the heir issue.

She takes up with Teagan and ends up pregnant and gets married to him and when she sees Alistair, she is six months along and when he asks... "How?"

She answers: "A great many things were assumed by the Grey Wardens that have not held true."

So I can definitely see him lose it.
