I was also miffed that I had to use the betrayed line to get through to the next part of the conversation. Marlana didn't consider the DR to be a betrayal.
And yes, I know, plenty of people do, but I never used any of those comments in DAO, much less WH.
Ah yes, I hated how the only way to get more insight into the conversation was by choosing that "betray" line, which certainly didn't apply to my warden. If anything, Morrigan did her the biggest favor of her life.

It's impossable to build any approval with him. You only get like +1 after listening to him drone on. I thought I wuld give the romance a try this run, but I just had a -10 after killing the Dalish. I don't think there are enough gifts in Thedus to get into his pants.

It's one of the scenes in IRS-A when you suggest going somewhere more quiet.

I did do a second dwarf noble where she has her happy-ever-after with Alistair, but it just doesn't feel the same. She's just not my main character. If there's a significant King Alistair + mistress cameo/mention in DA2, then sure, I'll import that game over, but not if it's just a few token lines.
Edit: Cleaned up formatting and added more thoughts.

Yeah my first run was a bit off...Gilsa wrote...
My first playthrough had me sparing Loghain mainly because I was a dwarf and took the role of being a dwarven and grey warden commander seriously. I honestly thought that Anora would turn on me and withdraw her support if I killed her father and I thought Loghain had an army of his own that I could acquire along with the three treaties. I had no idea that I was just trading one man for another. That felt so cheap when I realized what happened. I also thought that Alistair was going to show up again when the archdemon appeared, but that wasn't the case either. I was unhappy with the turn of events so I did backtrack a little bit and ended with the Grey Warden ending, but that felt so hollow and I felt that I cheated my character out of the decisions she made so I went back to Landsmeet again (*sob*) and spared Loghain. I told Morrigan no because I didn't think it was a good idea to recycle the archdemon. So the game ended with me sticking to my original choices and being true to my dwarf's character. It's a good thing that we're not continuning our stories in DA2 because I'd feel bad watching everyone around me get reunited with their LIs and I'd have to trudge on 0 for 2 in the romance department. (The first being Gorrim. =p)
Things just went haywire left and right.
Didnt do the DR either. Thanks but no thanks I dont want to run the risk of the archdemon coming back again. Or helping any plan of Flemeth's along. Especially when no one wants to tell me what the hell is going on.
Dont trust me? Dont expect me to trust you.

The Gilmore thing is a little complicated. I don't have ZDF or MDF. It was a big DL, and I had to DL it a couple of times because it was getting corrupted. If I recall correctly, put all of the zips in their own folder - ie on your desktop or something. Then unzip the first part, and it will automaticly unzip the rest of the parts.
Yeah I'm too lazy because I use ZDF for fixing Ali thinking he's king. (THough I did run into the invisible Anora bug

Cute picture. And I can't say anything considering how I'm doing my FF. Though what I plan to put Marlana through is going to be painfully interesting before she and Alistair start spawning.

When I had the mod I thought it was interesting for a couple runs, esp with a Cousland PC. Getting his approval up isn't that hard. I took him with me (as he was the 'new guy on the block') and you get additional convos each time you take him somewhere new and have the opportunity to gain or lose approval there. Also long after the rest of your companions have nothing else to say, Gilmore has conversations keyed to events in the game in addition to all his normal convos.
Plus, all 'approval gifts' are +5 with him, regardless of how many you have given him, so he usually got all my extra gifts that weren't plot specific (or needed) on other NPCs. Very quickly he was at 100+ without me working up a sweat.
He was also very useful in combat, less brittle than Sten or Oghren seem to be. (I had respecced him to 2handed warrior vs tank).
On the downside, I did find his approval loss for jealousy to be crazy (I took a 165 point hit when he learned my PC was romancing Alistair AND him), taking me from caring into hostile territory. Some of his conversation seemed a little simplistic and naive BUT there are also nice pluses there too as he will take you to task for some of the decisions you make in game (Just as Alistair will), which adds to the believability of the character.
The biggest reason I removed the mod was incompatibilities between it and others I wanted to use, not dissatisfaction wth the mod itself. I'd recommend it for at least one Cousland run through just for the richness it adds to that origin story.
Word of warning though. DO NOT take him to the confrontation with Howe at his estate with your Cousland. My biggest grief with Gilmore was him stepping all over the Cousland's best moment with Howe, eliminating some of the dialogue you can get there (where you make Howe p*ss himself with 'the Bryce glare').

LOL! With Bioware games, my first run is almost always messed up. I just look at is as a test run. Most of the time I'm just getting to know the feel of the game and where my character fits in. My "canon" characters are usually made on the 2nd or 3rd run through, once I know what I'm doing.Giggles_Manically wrote...

My first DAO run I didn't even finish Morrigan's romance. She was all "no more sex 4u" and Leli was like "lets go!" so... that made things easier.
Once I found out about the DR though, it made the Morri romance sooo much more interesting to me. Now I'm a total fanman.

Actually I am one of those (probably in the minority) who don't fall in this category. I like the little bit of angst that comes with "PC will never have children with Alistair" lore and embrace it unabashedly and wholeheartedly. Its only through children that we have immortality of any kind, and in fact have had their life spans for all intents and purposes nearly halved. (fortunately for the PC she finds her immortality in her deeds which will live on after her). For me it adds depth to the poignancy of everything in the game, from knowing that a Queen Cousland will not give him any children to be heirs, to the lamentable affair of Morrigan giving Alistair something she can't (the OGB). Granted its NOT a babe he will ever see or have any involvement with but its still his firstborn (and only) child. For someone who never got to have a real family that has to hurt.
For me to see so many fans having fics with pregnant wardens running around making lil Alistair spawn is frankly annoying. Not only anti-lore but it just really detracts from that part of the game-story.
If Alistair and Warden PC were breeding as much as all these fics portray, they would be repopulating Ferelden all by themselves in the wake of the Blight.
Again, I realize I am in the minority here but *shrug* my 2 cents worth on the topic.

So while my PCs are still sterile they do have their own families. (And when Alistair ages and matures he sees the younger recruits as his family.) To me Alistair doesn't need to have blood to consider someone family. Just have a close relationship and bond with them.

Adopt a child? If it was considered improper for Eamon to raise an orphan, I can't imagine the King doing it without some kind of huge scandal.Ryzaki wrote...
I don't see how he would never have a family. I see Alistair as the type who would love an adopted child as much as his own. He sees the Grey Wardens as his extended family and Duncan was praticaly a father to him and they shared no blood.
It would be easier for him to just knock up a concubine.
Edit: also I 2nd Syl's post. It'd be like writing out Morrigan leaving the Warden at the end of DA:O.

When I say adoption I'm talking about GW Alistair.
I don't think I can make Alistair King anymore. He doesn't want it. And I'm not going to force him into it.
King Alistair...I can't really see him as happy. Family or no. GW/Traveling Alistair on the other hand...
Though yes King Alistair I can see as being miserable for far more reasons than just not having kids of his own. That said...he could have a kid with a concubine if he really wanted a kid.
Edit: It was mostly the rumors of the kid being Eamon's and not being his wife's that caused the scandal. The Hero of Fereldan adopting a kid wouldn't cause a scandal.
