Odd how the executioner helm looks good with light armor.

I think I'd go for Nate if it were possible, but Anders grows on me -- I think it's his voice. But, with Anders, I always have to get past his early comment (forget exactly what it is) where he's assuming my PC is making a pass at him (right after my Warden's say goodbye to their husband/lover, King Ali). But by the end of the game, I just think Anders is adorable.

@KoP - Thank you! I love that scene. Is that without Isolde or did you just do a favor and cut her out of the pic?

@RC - Yummmm! Although I prefer him to look a bit older, that is certainly a man many of my Wardens would bat their eyelashes for. In a heartbeat. Nice!

And to stay on topic, here's our leading man waiting for his bride to walk down the isle:

Hespith: What is this? An elf? Exotic and impossible. (Troubled. "I think you're not real because my captors have been forcing me to eat friends and family) Feeding time brings only kin and clan. I am cruel to myself. You are a dream of strangers' faces and open doors. (Troubled. "You are a hallucination. I am being cruel to myself by imagining rescuers)

[PC: <act>Examine her closely.</act>

<desc>She appears to be suffering from a high fever. Her skin is pale and she is covered in dark blotches.</desc>

Hespith: First day, they come and catch everyone. Second day, they beat us and eat some for meat. Third day, the men are all gnawed on again. Fourth day, we wait and fear for our fate. Fifth day, they return and it's another girl's turn. Sixth day, her screams we hear in our dreams. Seventh day, she grew as in her mouth they spew. Eighth day, we hated as she is violated. Ninth day, she grins and devours her kin. Now she does feast, as she's become the beast. (Crazy chanting)

[PC: Is this darkspawn corruption? It looks... different.

Hespith: Corruption! The men did that! Their wounds festered and their minds left. They are like dogs, marched ahead, the first to die. (Alert, recognition. "I know that! It happened to the men! They are slaves now.")Not us. Not me. Not Laryn. We are not cut. We are fed. Friends and flesh and blood and bile and... and.... (Slipping into sadness. Looking around, trying not to think. "I pretend this isn't real because I can't deal with it.")]

[PC: What is that chant?

Hespith: It's what I've seen. What I will become. I force it into verse so it is fantasy, unreal. (Smiling. I have a secret. It's ugly and horrible. I don't want to deal with it) That's the only place I can hide, because they make me... they make me eat. And then....(Slipping into sadness. Looking around, trying not to think. "I pretend this isn't real because I can't deal with it.")]

Hespith: All I could do...]

[PC: I am no dream. I can help you.

Hespith: No. No you can't. There's nothing left. There's body and there's hope, and both are turning.... (Smiling, then sadness as she tries not to think of what is happening to her. "You can't help me. My body and soul are both betrayed.")They come. They... they vomit, they violate, and they chant. They scream, oh, how they scream.... Then the change comes. (Horrified and haunting, like she's trapped in some nightmare. Should be chilling) All I could do...]

[PC: You've been forced to eat your kin?

Hespith: And others. Fresh, not those who turn. Killed right here. And we're fed. Laryn first. But I am filled. I am.... (Starts reasonable, like it's old news, but slowly overcome with the horror of it. She has forced it out of her mind. "Every day I am forced to do things and it starts to hurt when I think about it.")

All I could do...]

Hespith: All I could do was wish Laryn went first. I wished it upon her so that I would be spared. (Ashamed. "I was so scared. I wished that my friend would suffer before me. I thought I could escape.") But I had to watch. I had to see the change. How do you endure that? How did Branka endure? (Repulsed by herself. "I had to watch her suffer because of me. I disgust myself. Branka did something just as bad to us, why isn't she disgusted?")

[PC: Branka! Where is she?/Are you from Branka's house?

Hespith: D-do not talk of Branka, of what she did. Ancestors preserve us, forgive me. I was her captain and I didn't stop her. (Sobbing, she loved Branka but could not make her see reason. Branka betrayed her.)]

[PC: What change? What are they doing?

Hespith: What they are allowed to do. What they think they must. And Branka.... (Sobbing, "The darkspawn do what they do because they are monsters. Branka, my lover, doesn't have that excuse for her betrayal)]

Hespith: Her lover, and I could not turn her. Forgive her... but no, she cannot be forgiven. Not for what she did. Not for what she has become. (Sobbing, delirious, she loved Branka but could not make her see reason. Branka betrayed her.)

[PC: What did she do, Hespith? What did Branka do?

Hespith: I will not speak of her! Of what she did, of what we have become! I will not turn! (Getting desperate not to remember. Pacing, angry. "You can't make me confront this! It's too much!") I will not become what I have seen! Not Laryn! Not Branka! (Desperate to avoid two fates. "I will not become a monster or a traitor!" Explosive, ready to break out of her cage.)]

[PC: A lover in the dark. No wonder she left Oghren.

Oghren: This explains a lot. Of course, if I knew she had those interests, I could've made some adjustments! (Exasperated. He just found out that his ex-wife had a female lover.)

Hespith: There is too much darkness here. The Anvil, it is in the darkness, surrounded by it, pulling Branka in. (Sad, haunted) No... I swore not to speak of it, not to think of it. La-la-la-la-la. I will not hear any more about Branka.

[PC: What did she do? Tell me or stay here!

Hespith: No! Don't leave me here! Don't let them take me! (Desperate and crazy) I will not...]

[PC: Help me and I'll take you to her.

Hespith: <desc>Sighs</desc> They spit bile and blood in my mouth! I would rather die than bring that with me, than have... her... see me like this. (Self-loathing) I will not...]

[PC: I can end this. Tell me what I need to know!

Hespith: End this? I am full of them, only a step from Laryn! I dream I am away, but real safety... that means accepting, and I will not! (Getting desperate not to remember. Pacing, angry. "You can't make me confront this! It's too much!")I will not...]]

[PC: When did you last see her?

Hepsith: No more than a few breaths, but longer than an eon. It was... long enough... Long enough to miss her... to love her again... to hate her more than ever. (Wistful, haunted) No...I swore not to...]

Then post-Broodmother:

Hespith: That's where they come from. That's why they hate us... that's why they need us. That's why they take us... that's why they feed us. (Speaking to no-one, drained. She's just witnessed the death of a monstrous beast that used to be her friend. She may become one herself. "This is the big horrible thing I was trying to tell you. The monster's come from us. No one wants to know this.") But the true abomination... is not that it occurred, but that it was allowed. Branka... my love.... (Distant, looking away from the dead monster. "But the reason we are here is because someone I trusted did something worse and they don't even have the excuse of being a monster.") The Stone has punished me, dream-friend. I am dying of something worse than death. (Sadly. "I trusted too much and I will probably die like all my friends. But what's worse is that I was abandoned to this fate.") Betrayal. (Sadly. "Everything I trusted was a lie. There's nothing left." She simply steps off a ledge and kills herself after this.)

Which Branka lines did you need? When you first confront her, her lines in the confrontation with Caridin (do you need that too?), post-confrontation should she live?

Ajhh, your right, lol. I just looked and saw the trees. I originally mistook the dagger hilt on his back for the Circle tower.

Yeah, camp is a great place, too, cuz it's always night. I do love monlight for most things. In can make something look ethereal, deadly, and wild.

It's one of the reasons I loved Ostagar: nightime sequence. Great mood lighting.

Aww, thanks Sarah, you are a live-saver and sweetheart for that. *squee* <3 I have copied and saved it for later use. Just needed the later bits of Hespith however, but the other is an added plus I gladly take as well. For Branka I simply need the things she is telling you after you encountered her the first time. Those are the ones, which are rolling to fast for me to capture them in any kind of way. So yeah, that is why I'm asking. *cough*

Oh and I totally do NOT dig Teagan or Anders in any kind of way. They are blah/bland to me. Though I respect Teagan for treating Alistair actually like a human. And I like Anders, just not in that squeeing, fawning way. That is all reserved for that certain ex-templar. <3

After initial combat against darkspawn, doors slam shut, trapping the player in the initial staging area. Branka walks out on her raised area. She is armed with some form of ranged weapon, and aims it at the player for the first line.

Oghren: What was that? (Shocked)

Branka: Let me be blunt with you. After all this time, my tolerance for social graces is fairly limited. That doesn't bother you, I hope. (Arrogant. She doesn't really care what someone else thinks of her. She views herself as almost god-like.)

Oghren: Shave my back and call me en elf! Branka? By the Stone, I barely recognized you! (Excited)

Branka: Oghren. It figures you'd eventually find your way here. Hopefully, you can find your way back more easily. (Doesn't seem surprised or happy to see him) And how shall I address you? Hired sword of the latest lordling to come looking for me? Or just the only one who didn't mind Oghren's ale-breath?

Oghren: Be respectful, woman! You're talking to a Grey Warden! (Blustering)

Branka: Ah, so an important errand boy, then. I suppose something serious has happened. Is Endrin dead? That seems most likely. He was on the old and wheezy side.

[PC: Orzammar needs a new king to defend against a Blight.

Hespith: A king won't defeat a Blight. We've had forty generations of kings and lost <emp>everything</emp>. I don't care if...]

[PC: My father is dead. The Assembly is deadlocked.

Branka: You are... seeking my support? You wish to succeed Endrin and become a ruling queen/king yourself? (Prying, perceptive) I don't care if...]

[PC: He is dead, yes, and the Assembly is deadlocked.

Branka: Then what is your involvement in this? Why would a surfacer be interested in dwarven politics? (Prying, perceptive) You must have a patron. A highly-placed patron. And they must want something in particular. Now, what might that be? (Showing her intelligence and powers of deduction) I don't care if...]

[PC: Show respect! You speak of my father!

Branka: And not saying anything untrue. But if he's dead, I'm sorry. He was as competent a king as we could expect. (Half-hearted apology. She really doesn't care.) You are...seeking my support...]

[PC: How do you know I'm not just helping Oghren?

Branka: Because nobody helps Oghren. At best, Oghren's need to find me happened to coincide with the needs of someone more important. (Dismissive)

Oghren: <desc>Arrrgh!</desc> You are <emp>impossible!</emp> This Grey Warden's come all the way from the surface to ask your help picking Endrin's successor. (Exasperated)

Branka: I don't care if...]

[PC: Yes. His heir, Bhelen, seeks your support to become king.

Branka: Hmm. Bhelen, is it? Twisted cretin, the last I heard. Not surprising he's done so well for himself. (Disdainful) I don't care if...]

[PC: Yes. His chosen successor, Harrowmont, seeks your support.

Branka: Hmm. Harrowmont, is it? Insufferable blowhard who's never had one memorable moment in his tradition-bound life. (Disdainful) I don't care if...]

Branka: I don't care if the Assembly puts a drunken monkey on the throne. (Arrogant, self-important) Because our protector, our great invention, the thing that once made our armies the envy of the world, is lost to the very darkspawn it should be fighting. (The Anvil of the Void. The means by which the ancients forged their army of golems and held off the first archdemon ever to rise. It's here. So close I can taste it. Passionate, orating)

[PC: Harrowmont would work to restore Orzammar's glory.

Branka: Harrowmont could have been pulled dead from his mother's womb and history would read no differently. (Disdainful) I'm looking for the one thing that will return our days of glory. (Passionate) The Anvil lies...]

[PC: Bhelen would change things. Move Orzammar forward.

Branka: A thousand Bhelens could die and history wouldn't notice. (Disdainful) I'm looking for...]

[PC: But of course there is a catch.

Branka: The Anvil lies...]

[PC: Sounds like you could use some help.

Branka: And you assume after all my efforts, you'll be able to waltz in and seize the Anvil without a hitch? How typically arrogant. The Anvil lies...]

Branka: The Anvil lies on the other side of a gauntlet of traps designed by Caridin himself. My people and I have given body and soul to unlocking its secrets. (Frustrated) <emp>This</emp> is what's important. <emp>This</emp> has lasting meaning. If I succeed, the dwarven people benefit. Kings, politics... all that is transitory. (Passionately) I've given up everything and would sacrifice <emp>anything</emp> to get the Anvil of the Void. (Grim determined, slightly crazy)

[PC: Does that include Hespith and the others of your house?

Branka: Enough questions! (Angry) If you wish me to get involved with this imbecilic election, I must first have the Anvil. (Firm) There is only...]

[PC: You're obsessed. That must be why Caridin sealed it away

Branka: I will not give up. His legacy lies just inside, the sum of all his knowledge, and I <emp>will</emp> have it. (Grim determination) There is only...]

[PC: Why chase the impossible when your people need you now.

Branka: I did not say I couldn't reach it, simply that I have not <emp>yet</emp>. Every day, trial and error reveal new clues to Caridin's workings. (Firm) There is only...]

Branka: There is only one way out, Warden. Forward. Through Caridin's maze and out to where the Anvil waits. (Cold)

Oghren: What has this place done to you?! I remember marrying a girl you could talk to for one minute and see her brilliance. (Hurt by what he's seeing)

Branka: I am your Paragon. (Cold, stating a fact)

I love how Branka accuses you of being arrogant if you offer to help get to the Anvil and then she forces you to do just that.

Something I never understood about Branka,

Why not leave a trail and map your way back to Orzamar so you can bring the Legion and as many soldiers as you can muster to capture the anvil if its so important?

I know she is obsessed and off her rocker but still did no one in her house say "lets map our way back so we can hold this place in force and get some help!"

The problem is, is that Branka is the only who understands it and can use it, unfortunately. Supposedly, even though she's whacked, she's a genuis, and the anvil is an incredibly complex device.

Yes but she is camping behind enemy lines.
If she had gone back for aid she could have studied it more safely and not killed her house.

As soon as she said "they were sworn to me, they had no right to refuse me". She was dead.
She murdered her house, and intentionally handed women over knowing what they would become.

There is no way I was handing it over to her.
