I never look at it as being a secret.  Maybe I'm naive, I think he'd be upfront with his future wife.  As Sarah pointed out, we know it's upfront if we marry him off to Anora, and I don't see it being any different with any other noblewoman.  

What I don't see Alistair being able to be intimate with someone for as long as it would take to father a child (if that would ever even work) and have him not begin to care to her.  Doesn't mean he would drop the mistress -- but she would probably have to come to grips with the fact that she was not the only woman he cared for.

I'm with you Tigress, I don't see him necessarily being monogamous (although I think it's likely he'll be a serial monogamist and take what he can in between established partners) but I do see him being upfront about it... After all, aren't Fereldans meant to be frank plain speaking people? I also see him caring for all of his partners somewhat, I don't think he is a man who can easily separate sex from love.

I think you can marry him up to like -30 or something. Not hate. Why would he ever agree to marry you if he hates you?

There was a difference for when he's hardened, though. I think, he does marry you even at hostile when hardened. I'm not quite sure. *channels ejoslin* She knows such things.

Oh, no reason. Other than him not really having a choice in the matter, I'm just wondering the extent you could theoretically ruin his life.

If you want to ruin his life, romance him, then spare Loghain at the Landsmeet and don't let Anora kill him. That right there is probably the worst you could do, short of screwing Loghain right there in front of him.

I've got some questions about the "still in love" flag. I need to do a drunken Alistair ending and I want it to be with him "still in love" with the Warden when he leaves (just in case DA2 makes a distinction IF they even do a drunken Alistair cameo). That being said... I'd also like to do a Zev romance.

So, does anyone have a clue if Alistair leaves the party while still in love, will that hold true if I romance Zev after he's gone?

In one playthrough, after Alistair dumped my Warden, I hooked up with Zev. During the DR or Denerim gates convo (can't remember exactly which one) I tell him I still love him and he says something like, "Do you? I wasn't sure." I took this to be a nod towards my relationship with Zev. What I can't remember is if he said he still loved me too, or not so I don't know if the "still in love" flag was intact. Not even sure the same logic there would apply to a drunken/absent Alistair, but I sure would like to know.

Nothing you do after he leaves should affect the flag since he's gone. Let me check the flags in the toolset. I don't know how the exile/still in love thing works.

Edit:  I don't see any plot flags when Alistair goes into exile, so as long as he loves you going into the Landsmeet, then he should still love you when he leaves.

That is what I am doing as my current run:

Romanced, Unhardened, Loghain spared, Anora ruling and then Loghain living.



I lost my only run with Loghain having done the DR so this will get that checked off.

Poor Alistair.

@LadyD - Thank you so much for looking that up for me. My next run through DA should be an interesting one. I'm going to do all the main plot quests, spare Loghain, then delve into the relationship with Zev while finishing up all the side quests so I can have the time to let that develop somewhat "naturally". Plus, this way I can spend more time with Loghain since I've only had him in my party once and that was going straight from the LM to Redcliffe. Then it's the DR to spare Loghain so I can see his cameo in Awakening. Figure this way, I can get all the "non-normal" stuff out of the way in one playthrough and STILL have a bit of Alistair for sanities sake.

Only Simon T. can really do the Father in Law talk without it being awkward.

Watched it on youtube and I loled most of the way through.



Especially when he sounds almost giddy about going to Orlais at the end.
