I admire your toolset mastery, errant.

Thanks! My skills are limited to pictures, though. One of these days, I'd like to learn the scripting end of things so I can make a mod.

As usual, your toolset screenies are amazing.

So quick question, in order to make this pics do you set them up while creating a new cutscene in the toolset?

Yep, that's how I do it, and it's a whole lot easier than creating an actual animation because you can layer animations that don't actually go together in order to get a different pose than in the existing animations, which wouldn't work if you were to play the entire thing. And I use dialogue lines with the animations to get the expressions. Since they don't have to make sense, I can use whatever gets the right expression.

Incidentally, you don't have to know how to script in order to make a mod. Two of mine did not. And I really don't know how to script.

Some mods may require scripting though, depending on your goal, and there are templates that can be used and implemented. The wedding scene for ex. required scripting in order to intergrate it into the game logically. For this I received assistance from someone in the community who does know how to script.

For anyone who has dabbled in the toolset and found it's help resources a bit unnerving, there is a group that has gotten together to try to make the toolset and it's help resources a bit more friendly to the new modder.

They currently need input on the hardships experienced by the new modder in finding appropriate tutorials, the inconsistencies of the wiki and all other related toolset help problems.

If anyone wants to join in and help with providing input on what they would like to see be improved with regards to toolset help resources, feel free to join. Tell the group what you would have liked to see, and where you experienced your barriers.

So I finally let myself take some time off to read the prompt stories last night. Good job, everyone! I particularly enjoyed the Duty and Honor ones. And Bob, of course. ;) Love the Alistair-Bob dynamic.

Thanks Errant.
Although Bob is heavily based around Nobby Nobbs from the Discworld series.

@Dahlia - I might do that. I just installed the toolset and have been looking at it, scratching my head, wondering where to start. I don't even know how to look up things like conversations yet (found the one-liners for combat, etc though! ROFL) but once I get those basics down and look through whatever documentation I can find, I might be able to offer up some suggestions from a total newbie.

Anyone here crazy enough to pay 800$ for finally having the option to take screenshots and using mods?

...

I thought I would be alone with that, lol. Soon my PC version of DA will be more than just nice table decoration. ^_^

KoP spent $729.99 on his (plus shipping), so you're not the only one. ;)

EDIT: Ooops, more than that apparently!

I spent over 700 dollars to get my laptop.

But I got many things for free as a deal from the store.

I am embarrassed to say I spent over $1500 on my Laptop. Biggest waste of money ever!

My Desktop PC is really all I need.

*fistbump* Lol good to know I'm not the only lunatic around here xD

Heh, I'm usually not a PC-gamer so that system is suffice for me. Comes along with a shiny quadcore, a radeon HD5570 (I think) and 4 GB Ram. It will be nice to have a system where I don't have to kick the squirrel inside to keep it going. xD

Well, 800$ sounds so much :P but that is "only" 610 Euro for me, after all. However I'll go now and write a bit. Have a good idea for the "Duty and honor" prompt. I'm looking forward what yours will be tomorrow, KoP. I'll make sure to make it overly fluffy if it is a depressing one, with rainbows, glitters and fluffy bunnies. xD

Yea, it's more than 800 in Canadian dollars, so...that makes me feel slightly better lol.

And yea looking forward to the prompt. It might be slightly depressing. But not too much.

My laptop was $1200 a year ago. The tower I need to rebuild, but the parts will probably cost around $600 since I will be using the old case and the hard drives are still only about 6 months old.

That would be great! I really can't remember all the problems (and there were many) I faced when I initially began to explore the toolset..So this will help the more experienced in that group better understand and possibly provide solutions ;)

I'm embarrased to say I spent 800€ for my notebook and it rendered my desktop PC (good enough for playing DA with max settings) useless.

Edit: I just noticed you capitalized the nouns. I thought I was the only one who randomly did that.

Ugh, by the time my new desktop is done it will top out at about 3K. All I have so far is the chip (i7x), the motherboard (Rampage III Extreme), the cooler (Noctua NH-D14), and a 26-lb huge case.

Radeon decided to delay the 6990 video card until 1st quarter 2011, so I'm stuck waiting, and cannot even get a power supply until the full specs are released *sigh*

We''re going to have to put in a separate outlet for it  on it's own breaker, and it will be consuming about $1.60 in electricity a day...omg!  lol

The thought of playing DA without mods makes me weep in agony. It's incomprehensible.

Not a clue how much my PC cost, given that I've usually replaced parts one or two at a time as they explode or become cripplingly outdated, and have made no effort to remember the prices. It'd be more expensive if I actually paid the burly midgets responsible for shoveling coal into the furnace/psu an hourly wage, I suppose.
