Well, 800$ sounds so much :P but that is "only" 610 Euro for me, after all. However I'll go now and write a bit. Have a good idea for the "Duty and honor" prompt. I'm looking forward what yours will be tomorrow, KoP. I'll make sure to make it overly fluffy if it is a depressing one, with rainbows, glitters and fluffy bunnies. xD

I paid almost 3k US for my gaming laptop, to replace my dying desktop last February. I got tired of outgrowing my computer, so I got one I can't possibly outgrow for at least three years.

The thought of playing DA without mods makes me weep in agony. It's incomprehensible.

This is what I have been doing for about a year. This is why I invested 600 Euros just an hour ago to fix that fact now.

*wonders if she should mention that her system cost $480 almost two years ago*

Granted, I didn't buy a new monitor, but still...how in the world does a system cost $3k these days?

KoP: My interest! It is piqued. *wants it to be Saturday now*

A year! You're made of stronger stuff than I. I don't think I even lasted a full playthrough before I went hunting for tweak mods.

17" Alienware laptop, dual Nvidia video cards (1GB each), 2.00Ghz quad core processor, 6GB RAM, starting price for the m17x is $2299, so if you upgrade RAM, Processor and Video Cards beyond that it adds up. Which I did. On top of that, add a three year full coverage warranty.

Every time I get a PC that "will work" I end up outgrowing it within a year. It started with running paintshop pro and making small graphics. Then it moved to running photoshop and digital photography, then came World of Warcraft, then came more gaming...my last desktop started out great, but got to the point it said "up yours!" and would shut itself right off playing DA:O. When hubby reenlisted overseas and got his bonus (very good timing there) I got a replacement that would last quite a while (many games and programs aren't even using quad core options yet). Granted a desktop would have been less. BUT then I'd have to trust it in the hands of the moving company when we move this summer, and again in 2 years and again in two years etc etc. So laptop won out. No movers are touching my baby...lol:wizard:

Ah, an Alienware laptop. That would do it. XD And you so don't have to trust your desktop to movers. Not as portable as laptops, granted, but they're still pretty easy to carry.

I find gaming laptops overpriced compared to what you can get for the same money on a desktop. And I dislike gaming on laptops. *shrugs* If you ever build for a desktop, might I suggest newegg? I've had this system nearly 2 years, and it's still fine. I should have bought a bigger hard drive at the time, but I'm getting another for Christmas and it'll be like $70.

newegg is definitely a great place to get the parts to build one. I have used them for the past three I have built.

It's so easy to rack up the $$$.  Between my chip, motherboard and cooler, there went 2k already.  That's not including software, power supply, and the video card(s).  Forgot about cost of the case, which was well over $300.
But, this one is now hopelessly outdated for me, and the motherboard can't really take anymore upgrades, so it's new computer time...if that bloody video card ever gets released  :(

Well portability is a problem still, this move we have to drive cross country with two kids, the two of us, suitcases, a cooler, and two large dogs with kennel so cargo space is pretty limited in my van (army doesn't ship vehicles in the contiguous US). We're actually sending the 3rd row seat with the movers...lol. And when we don't have to drive, we have to fly (which I keep hoping doesn't happen as I hate flying soooo much) so desktop is still a no go for a while. I have mine set up at my desk with keyboard and monitor  at home though so it's not much different. I'm so spoiled now I'll probably not go back to a tower.

I've heard good things about newegg, I'd probably look there next time, but hopefully thats a few years off yet.

Completely off topic, so shoot me.

After almost a year of playing countless "rangers", I finally got the bunny breeding summoning syndrome. Nate and my PC were quite shocked, let me tell you!

@ Tigress LOL, there's a similar screen over at Nexus where the PC is surrounded by hordes of summoned animals.

Oh no!!!!  What happened to you?

@ Lady Jess - Good to see that WoW hasn't completely swallowed you up.  I've been playing again too, but I want a mod that removes other players from my game!  And the quests feel like chores.  And you're kidding!  You can't name a pet after Alistair?

And speaking of ...

Alistair is still fascinated by Penelope Aeducan, but she still doesn't notice he exists.

It will likely swallow me up next Tuesday;) I couldn't name my upcoming Worgen priest Morrigan either...grrrr. And after a month of play, school starts for me so that'll swallow me up too!
