I never actually go on kmeme but you've got to be the only person I've ever seen complaining about the lack of Alistair. Usually, I hear just the opposite.

Thats because there is barely any Alistair on it. Granted its been a couple of weeks since I last looked.

I just want to see more characters represented.   When I get the chance I'll probably post something. I see a few prompts that are ignore and they have potential.

Do you mean there hasn't been a lot of new Alistair recently?  Because I'll agree with you there.  There is a ton of Alistair on the kmeme as a whole.  And the fill I'm doing is Alistair, so you'll at least have that.

But, yeah, go do some fills!  There's a fill-a-thon this week.  Just go looking through all the unfilled Alistair.  Image IPB

I think Melca is talking about the new kmeme, not the one we are familiar with (those of us that are familiar with a kmeme, lol). I didn't save the link...it's a few pages back.

Yes I was referring to the new meme called the Tent Party. That place is a HUGE bore right now.  -_-

I had no idea the old meme was still around!!  :o

The tent party thing?  Huh.  I must be doing something wrong, b/c when I looked at it, there was practically nothing there.  Unless there's yet another one?

Yeah, that's the one.

I'll be curious which one you are working on when you are done. I saw one the other day, after you mentioned you were working on a fill, that made me laugh to think that maybe that was the one. Not because I thought it was something that you would choose, but because I would love to see your take on it.

Does it help narrow it down if I say I was tempted to use it for the Drunk!Alistair guest prompt?  Image IPB

Hmm...no, I'll have to take another look. It was the crack one that wanted the word Malistair used, it made me laugh.

Hee. I wanted to do that one. Alistair's evil twin shows up just before he's going to proposition his beloved for the first night of passion. Malistair gets there first, beloved is swept off her feet because he looks and sounds just like Alistair, but doesn't smell like cheese and hair poultice.

Aw, I don't hate Alistair. He's just very, very easy to parody (lampoon?) in situations like this. He's actually my favorite DA character (ironically because he's way more complex than he appears on the surface and because of all the vastly different places he can end up, physically and emotionally) but he fits well in silly scenarios, like having an evil twin named Malistair.

@KoP To be honest, the Garrus romance reminds me a little of the Alistair romance, as far as awkward moments go. Garrus is, of course, far more relentlessly badass.

I know. I kid. Mostly. ^_^

I think I'd just pity Alistair if he really did have an evil twin named Malistair. You just know Malistair would make him miserable.

I do realize that I have a reputation...

And he would be totally miserable. "How can you like him? He's ridiculous and his name is Malistair. He might as well be called Evil Pete!"

@LadyD

I'm playing Ostagar again with my elf mage, and I remembered where that armor came from.  :P

I took it off of Jory and used Universal Dye Kit to color it black.  Alistair got it, and Jory got dressed in a robe.

Okay, I might be a little late to the party, but what is that armor and where do I get it?

Also, as far as the drunk!Alistair prompt thing went, I'm of a mind to link something else that's being written in that vein....

Plus, Garrus still feels like a good buddy for a female character if you don't romance him. I wish that were the case with Alistair, if I play a female character with no intention of romancing him he gets ignored because almost everything triggers his romance xD

Garrus is the most bromanceable, I will say that for him.

And I agree w. you, yuki. Alistair is hard to deal with when you're a female who wants to pursue a non-Alistair LI. My Brosca is ignoring him for now, until she can't get Leliana up to acceptable levels. She may end up triggering the jealousy talk just so she can shut him completely down (letting him off gently, of course).

I've never had any problems not romancing Alistair, keeping him friend-zoned/bromance with him. His less than subtle attempts to flirt are even cuter when you reject them.

I dunno, to me the friendship with Alistair as a female character just feels lacking. Sure, it's easy to turn him down since he's not exactly subtle but I don't want most of my dialogue with him to be that with the standard comments for everything else.

You do have to steer clear of "I like you" responses which don't specifically have "as a friend" tagged on the end, sadly. Something I figured out too late my second playthrough, and was confronted by an aghast Leliana accusing me of being in love with him. And consequently losing approval when I told her I wasn't. Harrumph.

It seemes fine other than that, though. You can still playfully poke fun at him, share jokes and chat about the weather, or whatever it is friends do.

Yeah, the one time I've been ninja'd by Alistair was after giving him his mother's amulet. I made the mistake of telling him he was special to me. I felt absolutely terrible when I had to tell him I didn't care for him the same way he cared for me. So much so that I finally gave up on trying to romance Zev and restarted the game, falling for Alistair where things felt "right".

I'm hopeless! I have no idea how I'm going to make it through this playthrough with Bera, but I'm bound and determined to do it. And I hope I'll have enough DLC and side quest stuff to allow me time to develop my romance with Zev, because I don't think I can do a non-Ali run. Ever. LOL

You guys make me want to try ME again even though I've tried and tried and every time... is epic fail.  I will say that in the wasted hours that were my attempts to play, Garrus was the only thing that caused a flicker of interest.  And then he went and.... you know.... in ME1.  I can't play all of ME1 just to get him around again!

And I love the idea of Malistair.  Love the name, too!  Except I think Malistair is already in Alistair and would come out in the right circumstances.

I have to say, the prompt stuff is wonderful, but makes me feel hopelessly inadequate and behind.  I can't keep up and get nervous around walls of text when I can't read it all.  :?  Short attention span begone!

Re: Alistair as a non-love interest

One of my most enjoyable RP playthroughs was with my Brosca who romanced Zevran, but was best buddies with Alistair. I treated Alistair as her Leske 2.0. See, my Brosca had zero points in persuade so she failed at everything. Leske was the one with the silver tongue, the charmer, the guy who did all the talking. He also would knock some sense into Brosca when she forgot her place in dwarven society. Alistair was very similar to that because he had a way with words as well and he was also a moral compass of sorts. Even when Isolde died in the blood ritual and I got the Alistair yelling aftwerwards, I did fail my persuade checks with him and he was snarky, but it felt like a geniune fight between friends. The disapproval loss was not that great because Brosca was trying to repair the damage with a friend and was all "my bad, man." Brosca was also dealing with how uncool it was to leave Leske behind to fend for himself. She put Rica's boyfriend on the throne to provide for her and thus she also put Alistair on the throne so he'd be provided for in the rest of his days. Again, this was a zero-persuade game and I honestly fully expected Alistair to turn down the dark ritual, but he did it, which floored me because he stepped up for his friend. I squeed about it and was later told I didn't need to pass those checks to get him to agree. Well, I didn't know that, but it definitely did add to my RP fun at the time.

Anyway, she stayed in Denerim to help Alistair because it was a personal request of his. Anything for her buddy. Zevran also remained with Brosca as well.

Sniff, sniff. I have a notebook full of notes I made on the lore and details about each character's decision and why so I'd remember how to keep roleplaying them past origins. This was before we found out that they were hitting the reset button in DA2 and moving on with a different protagonist. =p

You know, I really did not know how my dwarf was going to be attracted to Zevran. I liked him fine on my elves, but how was I going to reconcile an underground dwarf with an elf? Because they both had harsh backgrounds? Big deal. I just paid attention to the details, how things came about, and there were nuances I began to appreciate. After Leske had turned on Brosca with Jarvia, Brosca was dealing with the turn of events and then noticed the new assassin in her group. Hey, what the hell. Asked him why he was an assassin in the first place. His answer was just OK. Nothing great. But it was all in the banter -- Zevran treated Oghren well. He didn't talk down to a fellow dwarf. He "got" Oghren and Brosca appreciated that. Paid more attention to him as a result. He fit in well. Easy to be with, no pressure, no strings.

Anyway, I'm rambling. I just thought I'd add to the Alistair as a non-LI conversation. I never really know how a game is going to end up. I thought I'd really love my city elf + Zevran game, but it was the worst. I had set RP goals and characterizations for the CE at the onset and it just did not mesh well with Zevran's character. (To be fair, I have a game where a DN is chancellor to Alistair, her love interest, and it's not really one of my favorite games either although it sounds great on paper.)

ME is definitely a different beast. I have to relearn everything all over again -- the controls, how the quests are done, where to go next -- and there are definitely some dry areas of the game where it feels like a grind (Mako, anyone?) and there's not much going on with the crew because their triggers are dependant on how far you are in the game. However, at the end of the game, there is a big sense of accomplishment. There's that feel-good  feeling. It's almost like watching a Superman movie with the theme song and the flag waving in the background as Christopher Reeve flies away.

ME2 is definitely different from ME1. If I were to endlessly replay a game, it'd be ME2 instead of ME1. I've seen complaints that people liked ME1's story better, but I don't compare the two games. They're both part of one big story, y'know? ME2 has better graphics, has awesome paragon/renegade interrupts, and there's still that big finish where you completed a major mission yet there's something still on the horizon. You just feel that ME3 is going to be epic! It's just very different from DA. Dragon Age is definitely immersive and the characters have way more depth, but ME is free from the angst that is DA's trademark. It's less complicated which is so nice when I just want to enjoy a game and have a fuzzy feeling at the end of it. ;)

Edit: Addai, just suck it up and finish up the ME game. If you like how it ends, then go for ME2. I play ME2 more than I do with ME1. ;) Also, the prompts are just for fun. I do it to challenge myself to draw something in a few hours, no more. I need the practice and I don't worry if the proportions are off or whatever. It's the effort that counts. Just toss up whatever is on your mind -- I'd love to see your ideas.
