@Sarah - I know you love Gorim, but do you have a favorite LI among the four romancables? I don't get out of the Alistair gush thread much and all I know is that you do awesome fills for several of the different character threads around here (on top of being the expert on Dwarves).

Strangely enough (because I only managed to get through one male playthrough and watched about half of another one) I like Morrigan's romance the best.

Yeah, if I were a guy, I think I'd find Morrigan attractive.  I played one male character so I could romance her (for the achievement) and I really enjoyed cracking her shell.

Edit for ToP

He wears guilt so well.

Tigress, Morrigan is attractive, but too quick to the tent. I like Leliana soo much more because it takes more to get her there. I like the fun in her romance. While Morrigan may be the most complex character, I found her romance part to be too easy and therefore dull. Sorry KoP and Sarah, just my take on her romance aspect.

*is totally acknowledging YMMV* Sleeping with her may be easy (like it is with Zevran as well) but getting her to admit to having some actual emotion takes just as much effort as getting Leliana and Alistair (who quickly admit to caring) to the tent. The point wasn't to have a romance be easier or harder than another, I don't think, but different issues.

Yeah, Morrigan's romance is a very complex ordeal. Her sleeping with the warden is just a matter of fun and no strings attached. Once the feelings start to kick in, she goes in denial and you get some wonderful dialogs.

I love her "You miserable selfish bastard!" line.

Her romance is just a different kind of romance, but just as memorable as the other ones.

EDIT: By the way, YMMV means "your mileage may vary", right?

Actually, Sarah, she does that quickly as well. At the first time in camp I usually have her at 90 approval. The only thing she lacks from the conversation is the Gremoire which you get after the Broken Circle. Other than that her romance is flat. I have done it twice, and once all the way through to the end. It's just not that fun with her for me. TerraEx's patch helped to improve it, especially in regards to the Gremoire, but she just lacks that spark for me that moves it along. She will either talk about it or not, and when she does it's whiny. For me she is more fun and engaging from a friendly aspect than from a romance aspect. Now romancing both Mori and Leli is fun for the banter between the two, I will admit that.

It does mean that, yes.

Another thing I like about Morrigan's romance (and Alistair's) is that if you're playing a character who is planning on going off and having a post-Blight life that they really don't fit into (easy example: a dwarf Warden heading back to xenophobic Orzammar) then it's either easy or outright inevitable that they won't be in the picture. With Leliana and Zevran, you really get the feeling that (Awakening aside) they'll stay by your side forever.

I remember my Bann CE game Leliana was so happy about how we were going to live happily ever after and I felt guilty because Leliana was totally going to end up dumped because my CE didn't think that a human lover wouldn't fit in well with her people she was now representing and that was more important to her.

Some characters, undying devotion is good. Other times, it leads to awkward post-Blight break-ups that make you seem heartless for choosing something else over them...

Nope, just the dialogue gets her to 70 at first camp, tent time and then follow with "do we really need to talk?" and then "that sounds like fun" with the final "I can live with that" will jump her 18. so I am off, make that 88 not 90.

EDIT: with the right convo path you leave Flemeth's tent for Lothering at +8 without even talking to her.

Well, if you go through all her dialogue right away before you get to camp for the first time you can't really complain about her approval going up too fast.

I like to space out conversations through the whole game, otherwise it's boring.

True, depending on the kind of character you're playing, some romances fit better than others. Since none of my wardens ever really want to get involved in politics, go back to their previous life, or care about what other people would say, it's not really an issue.

Zjarcal, I am not saying I do it every time, but that it can be done. Actually next to Leliana I have found Zevran's romance to be very interesting. Hilde got me thinking on it and it's actually fun and there is more to him than I ever thought. Alistair usually ends up like a brother, and Morrigan any more gets relegated to like a little sister.

I have yet to manage to play a character that stays with the Grey Wardens post-game so whenever I played Awakening or one of the DLC it was an AU. I did identify more with Alistair and his 'You made me king!' predicament when I realized that I was going to have to do a post-coronation break-up as well, I must say.

Sure it can be done, but it's not meant to be done like that. I remember Gaider mentioning how the way dialogs were unlocked too fast being one of his main issues with the dialog system in Origins.

But for the record, I should say that I find Morrigan's friendship path FAR more satisfying than her romance. I was so disappointed when I first found out that Morrigan was straight, but now I wouldn't have her as anything other than my sister. I love her speech once she reaches friendly, not to mention her goodbye at the gates.

I just <3 Morrigan.

Hehe, same here. I actually don't even play Awakening with my Origins warden, I always play it with Orlesians.

With Witch Hunt, I just assume that for whatever reason my warden decided to search for Morrigan and that she wasn't doing it as the warden commander. So I guess I'm throwing the DLC a bit into alternate universe.

Zjarcal, I agree, her speeches at the gate and when you get the real Gremoire are, imho, more satisfying from a friendly standpoint than the romance aspect.

In terms of romances I think they all have their shallow and deep points. And while I don't like Morrigan's romance it is well done. All of them are to be honest.

Though I have to make a single PC one of these days.

That's me!  I talk to each person about one thing, each time I'm in camp.  I love spreading out the dialog for as long as I can.

The only exception to this is Wynne who requires so many convos to get her personal quest to pop that I usually wind up having to talk to her several times in a row near the end of the game, or skip her quest (which as I've said, is NOT normally an option LOL).
