One of the good things about being a professional eccentric is that I can get away with wearing Super Mario shirts and talking about video games at work and I only get the occasional "You should be having babies, not pretending to be a post-apocalyptic savior." As if the two are mutually exclusive.

I've been playing video games since I was four and my uncles got their first Atari. My grandmother is a Ms. Pac-Man fanatic to this day, and I was always fond of Donkey Kong. Of course, we also had some seriously odd games (Popeye and Journey Escape...yes that Journey, come to mind). When my siblings and I got our SNES, it was on. We played constantly, and as a family. We all shared in the pain of the SPECIAL levels in Super Mario World, and reveled in the joys of the glut of Disney movie games that came out in the early/mid 90's.

In college, I was hooked on Mario Kart, Tekken 3, Soul Calibur and anything that resembled Tetris. Then I discovered the Sims and...whoa. I cannot tell you how much time and money I've sunk into that hole. I might seriously have a heart attack if I were to try and crunch those numbers.

Nowadays, I'm sort of Bethesda's **** (even if their games are isolationist, I love the environments so much) and, of course, Dragon Age owns me. I'm fortunate to live with a guy who shares my love for games (he's blowing up some Enclave soldiers even as I type this). We currently have a SNES, a Game Cube, a Wii, a DS, a PS2 and PS3. Oh, I also have a gaming PC and a gaming laptop. I hope to have ready access to to games my entire life and people like Old Grandma Hardcore are my idols.

Your very welcome, I still see a few areas where I really need to tweak the Camera but beautiful shots!

Soul Caliber and Mario Kart! Two games I forgot to put in my list!

I'm definitely going ot be an Old Grandma Harcore.
I was hooked on the arcade cabinets in the uni bar back in the 80s and got my first PC in 1988 (it ran at a whopping 8MHz and didn't even have a hard drive. Oh and mono monitor, too).  I played some shareware on it (notably NetHack) but my first commercial game was Midwinter.
I got a job on a PC games magazine in 1993 and did that up until 2000. Met my boyfriend (another games journalist) on a press trip. Unfortunately the bottom fell out of the magazine market (damn you, Internet!) and my last magazine folded so I did little bits of freelance for a while but that was the end of my games journalism career. Still, it meant I could play games for fun rather than "review this in four days then move on to the next thing." Hence I am an OCD content miner and play the same thing for months at a time.
I envisage myself sat in an old folks home with my computer and the nurses saying "she never gets any visitors but she seems happy as long as you leave her alone with her games."
(Not being pessimistic here, but I don't have kids, so...)

Somebody should found an old people's home for us gamers so we can all retire to it and socialise when we're not gaming... Would make my life sweet...

They totally should. It would be the most awesome old people's home ever. I'll be there. With cats! And games!

I've been playing, but nothing of terrible interest to post.

I decided since my DA days are likely numbered, I want to spend them playing another Dalish PC.  This time a more classic archer/ bard/ ranger.

Posted Image

Question:  DahliaLynn mentioned screen resolution and that having it lower brings the camera in closer?  How do you set the ratio so that it doesn't look "smooshed"?

It's really going to depend on your monitor. I have a 19 inch widescreen, so I run at 1280 x 800.

Thanks for these yankee23, they will make an adorable addition to IRS. Oh, and elves have their own version in the update I made today, but I have no pics of that.

I have a 16:9 ratio 22 inch screen, and use a computer screen resolution of 1680 x 1050 (desktop)
I set dragon age to 1280 x 720 and that works very well for me. Very comfortable and everything is clear. (including the tiny codexes :D )

What is your screen size and res that you use for your computer?

We have a 19" monitor and the resolution is set to 1400 x 900, 16:10.  I have no idea how it got set that way, I assumed it was default.  Oh, we did fiddle with it a bit when we got a new video card because stuff looked screwy for a while and our talent bar shrank.  Maybe that's how it got set as that.

try 1280 x 768 to get a comparable res that I get, in the dragon age configuration tab

Edit: I think you are talking about your regular computer screen res, as opposed to in game resolution. Set your *game* resolution in the video tab under options to 1280 x 768. I think it should be fine. try experimenting on what feels right.
