@Lady D: Both were good but I think I actually preferred the second one, as creepy as it was. Alistair seemed almost sociopathic in it and that's always a fascinating take.

Yeah, that would be the OOCness because it's just not happening with in-game Alistair. I could have taken a slightly different angle and put it so that after Ostagar she's all he has left so he's going to make sure she never, ever leaves him.

Ever.

I suppose there's a bit of that there, but creepy sociopath is definitely what comes through.

@ Lady D: I agree with Sarah. It's rather delightful to think that the lovable, bumbling templar is actually a master manipulator. And the part about him claiming her body as his property - while disturbing - was icing on the cake for me :D

LadyD, brilliant. While the first one seems right on, the second one is plausible. Who knows what would go on between Alistair and Zevran when competing for the same woman. His thoughts are a bit dark, but jealousy can do that to someone.

Wow, Lady D! Two sides of the same coin. The first part actually fits well with Alistair, imo. He has seen and been through alot and I never really saw it as "innocence" or "naivete" that keeps him continually wanting to do right by those around him. The second part is that much more creepy in that he could easliy have turned out that way in light of the life he has had. Well done! Image IPB

@LadyD - I wonder if the flip side of your story might have been well within the Alistair as originally written. I could easily see that side of him for the harder, gruffer Alistair in DG's mind, initially.

Nice story Lady D, A glimps into his darkside.  I know it's AU, but thoes 2 seem to be pretty tumultuous

Here's some more Cullen Romance.  His Mage is leaving him behind - nice job capturing the sadness Cme!  Alistair probably would have turned into a Cullen if he stayed in the Chantry.

Meanwhile, his mage is off getting to know other Templars.

This. Alistair came off really creepy in this...but it is a side I can imagine he has somewhere deep down.

And I had my first fit of giggles after installing NB. So many options are really....fascinating lol. And it's interesting to see in game, too. :bandit:

I love your mage Rak!

@Merill:

You could try giving Alistair a surprise package if he's behaving naughty...

Oh I'm fine again, thx. Game is finally running as it should and every DLC is back as well. If I get the toolset to run someday then it is quite perfect. Lol. Though I don't have the nerves for any troubleshooting today...so I have saved the links and do it another time.

Have installed all wanted armor mods, dialog/proportions fixes (elves haz booty noa :o) Alistair mods, NB, DA redesigned ( I confess I'll mod Leliana and Sten *hides*) and best off all...EVERYTHING works. After the frustrating two days this is such a relieve, really. At least I know WIN7 now better

Now I "only" need to get other presets and the hair/tints etc mods to work together, then I can create a certain Dalish. ;) If that is still today? Well we'll see.^_^

@Zjarcal: Lol,. indeed. Honestly? Those huge options are terrifying. No matter if lampposts or magic bosoms. Or the shemale option? Shudder.

Ok, I confess, I have used that option a lot to take some funny screenshots...

Nate only got the "******" option (as did Leli)... Morrigan and Isabela on the other hand...

Thank you, guys. I have to say that the two parts do represent two sides of the same coin. The first it pretty likely. It depends on how you interpret Alistair's actions in game.

However, I don't think the second part it too likely. It is interesting to see, how the events of Alistair's life could have easily twisted him into something else. And while we do see a bit of his dark side in game, I don't think Alistair's dark side is nearly that dark. It's a very obsessive, possessive, sociopathic personality. He will literally kill you if you try to take from him what he considers his. With that Alistair, Carys is manipulated so much so that she no longer really has any freedom or free will. If Alistair did become king, and this one would, she wouldn't have a choice about being his mistress. And Maker and the Creators help her if she ever tried to leave.

I think Alistair's dark side is more prone to turn on himself rather than manifest itself in manipulating others. In order to do that you have to be deceitful and insensitive and even in his darkest moments I can't see him going that way, he has neither of those traits in his standard personality.

Becoming a depressed, suicidal, violent drunk or addict, yes... Using people with craftiness, no. Although, if he had to, I could see him employing other people to do that for him in much the same way as Maric used Loghain...

I think it is a testament to Alistair's strength of character that he is the way he is. Many others in the same situation he was in growing up could easily come out of it manipualtive and selfish.

Oh, yeah. While Alistair is broken in some ways, he's also remarkably intact for what he went through. He has a strong character. This is why I say the second part isn't too likely. It requires a level of cruelty and manipulation he doesn't have.

But....

Maybe if he had taken a turn sometime during his teen years, he could have ended up like this. And it was fun to play with.

Irony. (And remember, Alistair did seem highly complimentary of Loghain before Ostagar fell so it's not OOC)

Alistair had never met Teyrn Loghain before but he had certainly heard the stories. The Teyrn had once been a commoner like him but had risen to the ranks of the high nobility due to sheer bravery and talent. He had also been a close friend of King Maric (the man who, like it or not, had technically fathered Alistair) and was instrumental in driving out the Orlesians as well as being a lifelong confidante to the king. And now…Alistair was actually going to meet the man.

It wouldn’t just be him and Loghain, of course, as Alistair was quite certain that he was beneath the Teyrn’s notice but King Cailan had insisted that all of the available Grey Wardens be presented to him upon their arrival at Ostagar and that did include Alistair. Loghain was also present for whatever reason and though he had frowned upon first laying eyes on Duncan, his face had smoothed out into a mask of impassiveness.

Thinking about Loghain was easier than thinking about the king. Cailan was, as difficult as it was to believe, his half-brother. This was actually the second time they had met although Alistair rather doubted that the king even remembered their first meeting, so eager was he to drag Teagan to the armory. No, Alistair could never be a noble king like Cailan but maybe one day if he did his duty well enough and was in the right place at the right time he could become a commoner-turned-hero like Loghain.

Alistair actually thought that Loghain seemed more impressive than Cailan anyway. Cailan had all the trappings of the nobility that Loghain lacked and truly looked like a glorious king out of those tales he had mentioned earlier but he lacked a certain something that Loghain possessed in spades. Experience, maybe? Alistair actually rather hoped that that was it because that was something Cailan would gain in time, perhaps even by the time they were finished here at Ostagar. Alistair just knew that whatever it was that Loghain possessed that Cailan didn’t, it was enough that he had no doubt who he trusted to carry them through the day.

Loghain caught Alistair staring and came to stand by him.

“Never doubt that you belong here,” he said quietly. “The Grey Wardens, whatever else they are, do not recruit the weak.”

Alistair’s ears reddened and he had to fight back a smile. He was glad that Cailan had someone like Teyrn Loghain on his side.

@Sarah - Wow. I really liked how Loghain A) noticed Alistair's discomfort and B) took the time to encourage him. And yes, ironic is exactly what it is.

@Sarah: Very nice. I've always thought that if it had met under different circumstances and if they'd had a chance to get to know each other, Loghain and Alistair would probably get along pretty will.

And I'm so not tackling that subject in a current fic I'm writing. ^_^

Very Nice Sarah. I imagine this would have been how the two would have treated each other had not paranoia overtaken Loghain.

*shakes the Alistair thread and tries to awaken it*

Playing the Broken Circle quest feels very different when doing the Cullen romance.  Of course, after a dozen games, I know where Cullen is.  But I felt a new stress when running through the tower because of all the helmeted templars that my party had to kill.  I could picture Cirra running from body to body, removing their helmets and frantically examining their faces.

And yay, looks like I'll have some nice reading and pictures to look at from the prompt!  Looking forward to enjoying them tonight.
