I was easily soloing the Harvester by kiting him around his room and killing the skeletons with the switch. It was taking a while and three skeletons spawned and stunned me, so I died, but it seems like this would be an easy way when played with greater care. I also did not intend this from the start, so a mage better specced to kiting (haste, more damage spells than just the frost line...) would probably have a better time.

My mage also had poison making, so I was able to get some extra damage from the bombs found throughout the level.

That's actually what I ended up doing with my Mage. Unfortunately, I need time to set up the Affliction and Vulnerability Hexes to cause decent damage, and in the later portion of the fight, I don't have that time. I hit the switch to deal with the skeletons, and I'm immediately swamped by more. I therefore don't have time to stack the hexes, nor to pick the Harvester out of the crowd, so I end up simply running in circles while inflicting no damage.

Lol took me several tries but after knowing to "Prep" your self before import I must say it makes a big differance.

Bring at least two Manuals of Focus from Awakening to respec Brogan and Jerrik to something better. I didnt try but I think you can do the same to the Golem to buff its magic stat so it kheals better.

Ok depending on party Leader/Warden this is either going to be easy or ridiculously hard.
As a Mage Warden you can literaly demolish this on Nightmare (In my test run I was seeing brogan hit for 400+ damage a pop)
But anyways just prep up for the fight, make sure to have plenty of potions.
And bring in some decent gear for Jerrik a Rogue and his Brother Brogan a Warrior. Brogan was alot better with Sentinel Armor and Vigilence, and Jerrik was in full blackblade when I rolled through.

How did you get the full Blackblade set? Last I knew, the Gloves and Boots weren't properly implemented, so you couldn't get them.

Im rocking PC and 360, and technicaly ps3 too that my friend gave me but I dont have a ps3 o play :(
though the gloves and boots ARE availible on the 360 its just nearly impossible to get them. They are super low chance drops on assassin type enemies. I can confirm the boots but ive never seen the gloves and I only got the boots from reloading like 80 times during one encounter.

Which encounter? I tried reloading the one where there's one Crow Assassin and a bunch of other enemies coming at you across a bridge, but only ever got the Tunic (which I already had).

The Bandit hideout under the city would probably work best, But I did a random world encounter that had something like 6-8 bandit/assassins. Im exagerating I reloaded like 80 times but it was certainly close to that. Reminds me of one game with a new cousaland I reloaded for like two or three hours straight trying to execcutioners helm rare drop off teh boss in that origen.

Ok, probably the most frustrating and totally imbalanced fight ever and even more frustrating than 32 boss golems I had to fight all at once in one fan-made dungeon...

But after two painful hours, I managed to kill the Harvester on Nightmare difficulty just with melee characters. My char is dual wield warrior lvl 35 imported from Awakening (just one import with all items I had right before pulling The Mother, no potion crafting, just the few potions I had at that time).

Luckilly I had one respec tome, which I used with Brogan to change his stats and talents a bit, less STR (57 -> 48), no CUN, no Magic, more CON, and change reaver for guardian and berserker for paladin.

And my strategy:

PHASE 1
1) Set Hold Position for your party, with Golem run to Switch button, where he will stand for the whole phase and you will use him to press the button and with Brogan pull the boss and kite him little bit closer to Golem
2) After 1st skeleton spawns, use the Switch button to kill him instantly and with Warden, Jerrik and Bronto run towards Boss and start attacking him
3) Now just nuke the cr*p out of him, drink healing potions like an alcoholic and after his cleave aoe or whatever it is, use Golems Heal spell and some lesser potions
4) As his HP goes lower, wave of skeletons will spawn, w8 for all 3 of them and hit the Switch button, it will kill even the skeletons you cannot directly see, but you know they are there (minimap Survival tracking)
5) Now its just zerg and potion drinking till phase 2, the whole party HAS TO survive, or else phase 2 will become impossible

PHASE 2
6) Disable Hold Position and with everyone target the Boss, if you have a Champion in your group, use War Cry on cooldown
7) Don't know if his jumping is totally random or scripted in some way, but succesful kill depends on where he'll jump, try to push him into one of those corners just under the stairs
8) Chase him only with DPS chars, with Bronto and Brogan taunt skeletons like mad and keep drinking potions, use War Cry, Quake, Hurl, all crowd control abilities you have
9) And now just pray to God, because from this moment it's pure luck in my opinion, key is to hold all skeletons in one place, so the DPS don't have to worry about them and can nuke the Boss, throw anything you've got on him
10) If everything goes well, the Harvester should be dead by now, as well as your tank, who simply can not take forever the insane crit damage from adds (at least my poor Brogan with 724 HP, 59 armor buffed, 127 defense couldn't :( but except him nobody else died, not even Bronto)

(And yes, i am not counting with the Revival spell for the battle, I killed the Boss without it, because, well, I found the revival upgrade after I finished the DLC, what a morron I am :) )

Sorry for my english, it's not my native language, hope it wasn't too chaotic and somebody can benefit from it.

And unfortunatelly my profile refuses to update, so http://img814.images...10081100443.jpg

Overall it was enjoyable DLC with intense atmosphere, I really liked it, it was worth the money, but the last fight was way too brutal :)

I pretty much did this, except for the first part, I did not switch my party to hold because they would not attack often enough when I did. Instead, I took control of the golem manually and only switched to my other party members to make sure that they heal and to boost their stamina.

I managed to kill the harvester on hard without the switch because I was oblivious to it's existence. Of course the skeletons ripped my party a new one, but my main character (Shadow, LS, Assassin rogue) survived to phase two.

On phase two I was able to solo it through very liberal use of all my survival abilities (ghost, decoy, stealth, the LS one, and even flicker at one point) as well as mountains of health and stamina potions, and a good amount of kiting. As long as you don't stealth, the boss won't reset and get all it's health back.

Whenever it stops to channel on a pile of bodies (not exactly sure why it does that), it's a great time to drop a decoy and get some free hits on the boss while the skeletons are distracted. Be sure to cast mark of death on the harvester before going to town on it.

Well after losing last Night with my Warden and the 2. Half Fight with the Harvester my char died...what a shame... right even before he could drink his 80th Potion...

Btw, your talking about the Revival Spell? Where do i find it, i only find the Grouphealingspell and the StromCloud.

EDIT: Nevermind. I respect jerrik with my Warden Memories Book. So i maxed him out in Health and Durability...after all... he was naked with only a Chasind Bow and 99 Elfenarrows...and it worked xD

Harvester is dead.

I actually think a lot of this battle can come down to luck and timing.

I changed my rogue Dwarf (forgotten his name already) into a bowman, stick on accuracy and equip him with what ever arrows you have. I had him stand right next to the switch, firing at the Harvester. I also left Gollum at the back as he was forever dying on me, had him doing the few things he could from range. Sent in my Warrior, Dwarf brother and Bronto to fight the Harvester up close, basically in this stage I ignored all the other Skeletons, kept my team alive my chugging potions when needed and hitting the switch when needed.

I had reached this stage plenty of times only to be wiped out during the second harvester phase but this is where I think some luck came into it, I literally hit the switch a second before the Harvester died, which basically killed off all others and left me with my whole team and just the main harvester for a while, this gave me time to get a fair amount of damage done before other corpses got involved again, when they did most of my team once again got wiped out just leaving me and bowman dwarf, I think I had 3 other corpses and thankfully they all targeted me and I basically ran around in circles (few potion chugs along the way) with them all chasing me while my dwarf was left to shoot the Harvester at will with his bow, not the most graceful way to win a fight but needs must i'm afraid ;-)

well I spent the best part of 4 hours on him and still no joy. level23 mage no awaekenings so stuck with what I've got. Can't use the tomb to re-do my skills as when I highlight it in the inventry it doesn't give me a use option!

Managed to get him down to 30% by shear persistance and 3 revives but still no good. I must say though Brogan is useless, the golem and the brother seem to last far far longer.

Will have another go tonight now I know about the switches!!

You can't use that tome from the Inventory; you have to use it from the Radial Menu on the 360. I'm assuming this means from the Quickbar on the PC, but I can't confirm that.

I just finished this fight on Nightmare with a Spirit Healer mage. I'm still struggling to do it with my Dwarf warrior tank, but I've just put up a fairly extensive guide to killing the Harvester on the Dragon Age wikipedia website. Good luck to everyone trying it out at the moment, just takes a little perseverance!

I finished on NM as a Spirit Healer (1st 2)/Keeper (All), Battle Mage (1st 3.)
Cone of Cold, the cold battle mage spell, the glyph line, aura of repulsion, petrify, force field, prison, Stone Fist helped immensel with crowd control. There was enough crowd control to survive when the last of my companions fell in round 2. And the One with Nature nukes were great. Add Time Spiral to be used in desparate situations. Oh, yeah misdirection. :)
Damage over time from walking bomb, prison, curse of mortality.
It was an excellent battle

I soloed it with my arcan warrior on nightmare (360) =o

here is what I did: I started with hacking away at it with my sword totally ignoring the skeletons, I used the spells walking bomb, Curse of Mortality and crushing prison as often as I could to get some extra damage (I also switched to my staff and used con of coldness to frezze the skeletons time from time) when he changed he skeletons into red-fade I just run around until he changed them back and I started slashing him with my sword again. I also used health and mana pots when I needed =3 (I never used the switch cus I dident know it was there lol)

Just beat it on nightmare with my archer I imported from Awakening. Level 35 assassin / duelist / shadow, 148 dex. Sadly I think the key way to beating this easily on nightmare is to make sure you import 2 skill reset books and proper gear. If you haven't, make to tell your Golem not to do friendly fire stuff, hurl & quake.

Phase 1:
Sent my melee folks in and positioned them properly. I sent my archer over next to the switch. Once everyone was positioned properly and the fight stabilized I had Jerrik use Mark of death on the harvester. Then had Jerrik use twin blades and punisher, Golem using slam and my archer using arrow of slaying. I wanted to conserve Brogan's stamina for defensive abilities and conserve my archer's stamina for phase 2. After that I just kept auto shooting with my archer and letting Jerrik do whatever. After ground pound or whatever its called I had the golem do group heal. If a skeleton add came onto my archer I'd just let my archer tank it since she has stupid high defense from dex. If a 2nd skeleton came onto my archer I killed it with auto shoot. Once the skeletons got kinda out of control that's when I used the switch. After you have to use the switch phase 2 should be about to happen.

Phase 2:
Ignore the skeleton adds and focus completely on the harvester. Feed Jerrik some stamina pots. Hopefully arrow of slaying will be off cooldown or close to coming off cooldown. Shoot off a critical arrow if AOS is not done its cd. Once AOS is off cd use mark of death when the harvester is doing its thing where it spawns more adds and then throw everything you have at it! The harvester should die or be close to death. If the adds get out of hand use decoy.

Short version.....

Phase 1:
-Postion properly, ranged character next to switch.
-Use switch when things get out of hand or better yet use the switch to clean adds up before phase 2.
-Make sure your damage dealers have full or nearly full stamina before phase 2.
-Don't use a high damage long cd ability if you are nearing phase 2.

Phase 2:
-Ignore adds.
-Chase harvester around.
-If adds get out of hand use decoy.
-Use mark of death before you unload.
-Unload when the harvester is sitting still, like when he spawns an add.

Lol: During red mode or w/e, a boss skeleton add was beating on my archer. So I was like no worries arrow of slaying will take him down! It did 663 damage and his health bar only moved like a third... I decided that was a good time to use the switchImage IPB

Just be it on hard. Figured I'd share my "strategy" in case anyone is having trouble. First I started a new character at the beginning. Human female rouge. I put all my points into dexterity except 7. I put those in cunning. Skills, I had full combat training, full poison, full trap and 1 in Vitality and 1 in clarity. Specializations were Assassin and Duelist.

Talents, I had the Evasion line, the first two of assassin, first two of duelist, all in Master Archer line, all in Arrow of Slaying line, all in Rain of Arrows line and that's it I think.

I also respeced Jerrik so he was similar to my character. He had 50 dexterity, 20 strength, and the rest in cunning. I made him a bard. His talents were full Feign Death Line, full Evasion line, full Bard, full Master Archer, full Arrow of Slaying, full of Rain of Arrows, and the rest I put in the last archer line. I used the armor runes on my character gave Brogan the weapon runes and equipped him with the mace of awesomeness I found. The golem I increased its constitution.

Part one "strategy" was keep it simple. I set Brogan to use the least powerful health potion at health < 50%. He used quiet death poison as well. I had my character right by the switch and used it as soon as I saw any orange skeletons. When the fight started, I used Mark of Death on the Harvester, then Arrow of Slaying, then Burst Shot. Then I switched to control the golem and used Group heal, because it was down to like half health by then. That is how phase one was complete. Only the golem died.

Phase two was pretty much more of the same actually. Apply weapons with poison, use Mark of Death, Arrow of Slaying, Burst Shot. I also ran from the skeletons occasionally. Brogan died about half way through. Jerrik was alive the whole time.

Oh, I also talked trash on the Harvester the whole time, but that is optional.

Just got the grim reaper achievement using the majority's advice on my second attempt. Thanks everyone.

Did it with my dual wielding dwarf warrior. lol he tanked the entire fight, the tanks taunts kept getting resisted, or he would turn for a second, then be right back on my guy.

Personally I had more trouble with the 8 golem sentinel room then harvester.

Is anyone else having problems with their golem? Mine will not res anyone, which is making this battle impossible. I do the usual; select revive, target the useless tank, and he just stands there. It's in his action queue, then it just fades and he goes back to being useless, as well. As you can probably tell, I am beyond frustrated. It's one thing to make a dlc hard. This is hard in all the wrong ways. They make it hard by giving you an imbalanced, unequipped, poorly skilled party and then throwing everything at you but the kitchen sink, so it doesn't actually take skill to win, it takes luck. Which shouldn't be the case.

Edit:  Nevermind.  I just got it, finally.  It was the strangest thing, though.  When I needed to revive someone, I had to stand my golem right on top of him, and target my golem with the res, not the person who needed it.  So, if anyone else is having a problem like this, I guess this is a work around.

My golem worked fine. Check the AI tactics to make sure another command is not altering choices.

Hey guys,

I guess I need some good advice for a mage warrior but I'm not yet at the reaper...

I'm at the golem room, the very famous.

All the crew expect the warrior dwarf suffer the damaging fall in the ground which stops me a lot from making any slight magic stopping.

Any suggestions?

If your talking about the green switch golem room, I have a cheap tactic that got me through it pretty easily.

As soon as they activate run out of the room and run back into that corner where the chest and note is. This choke point will stop most of them, so you will only have to take one or two on at a time. An arcane warrior should be able to easily kill one or two at a time if my warrior could.
