You can look up my post above in this thread to see what got me through it on Hard. Short version is: kite skeletons (do NOT hit them ever, that's what the switch is for), use ranged attacks where possible.

Most important part: When Harvester is about to "die" for the first time (must be very, very close to death), stop attacking him and wait for the switch to appear. Once it does, hit it and immediately have everyone nuke him. That way, you get rid of the skeletons for phase 2. It's much, much simpler this way.

Pets are an excellent way to confuse and kite skeletons. The bronto works, but I recommend respeccing any rogues to be rangers for extra pets.

BTW, heals worked just fine for me. But note that the golem cannot use potions of any kind.

Victory! Huzzah!

I was facing down impossible odds with my allies face down in pools of blood. A horde of skeletons pounding away at my mighty Heartwood Shield. Amidst the chaos I noticed something, The Harvester was nowhere to be found. My look of despair turned to a glimmer of hope as I drew Vigilance with renewed vigor and slew the demonic skeletons before me! Suddenly there was an air of tranquility that filled the forge, my allies arose and it seemed the battle was over. We searched for The Harvester, but found no trace of it or it's remains. As we passed over a bridge on our way out we noticed something writhing about in the corner. As we moved closer we could clearly see the creature was The Harvester trapped in the wall! We were unable to engage at first, but then I tried bashing the monster with my shield. It was knocked back and out of sight, I was confused as to what could have happened to the beast, but then it appeared before me! With it's undead army vanquished, The Harvester had nothing to protect it. I could see the fear in it's eyes as my comrades and I cornered it. I stood proudly wearing The Armor of the Sentinel as I loomed over the walking horror that had claimed the lives of so many others. Alone I was unable to ward off the attacks of this formidable foe, but my allies were once again at my side and united once again we could not fail! I raised Vigilance above the The Harvester's foul head and struck the abomination with all my might! This final blow caused such a powerful quake that the thaig had begun to collapse. We had to move quickly to escape the ensuing cave in. Jerrik had hoped we could salvage the research and secrets that Amgarrak still held, but at his brother's haste fled the thaig. We had done it, The Harvester lay defeated and the fallen avenged.

This is my story as to how I managed to defeat The Harvester on Hard and in doing so earn the Grim Reaper achievement. Once again I have all of the achievements for Dragon Age: Origins, and I shall sleep soundly tonight. Sure it's a bit excessive, but I was overjoyed that this had happened, it was glitched into a wall, now that's a spot of luck! Plus my allies came back with full health and stamina, I couldn't lose. With the skeletons redead it was too easy, I had trapped it in a corner and my party gang stomped it to death by spamming abilities like they were going out of style. It was nice to be the on the side that has the cards stacked in their favor for a change. Just thought I'd share that with you, though I doubt it will recieve much attention in this thread.

The smileys tell the story of how I was confident at first, then things quickly went from bad to worse. I was able to clear the area of skeletons completely and saw hope. Then the miracle happened and I was really confused at first. After that I was happy to see what had transpired, after lmao I went ahead and turned on ass kick mode. Finally I was overjoyed to earn my achievement. So...um, yeah it was a cool story bro and I thought I'd share it.

Too bad that seems to be broken on the 360 or I would have done it by now.

Beat on hard with sword/shield Warrior (Templar/Champion/Sprit Warrior). Phase 1 tanked the Harvester and held most everyone else back. Had one by switch.

Phase 2 everyone else died quickly, had a bunch of skeletons in phase 2. Used Shield Wall and Carparace. Hit Harvester then ran around until recharged and repeated Carparace and beat him farily easily, just took time..

This is beyond frustrating for the simple fact your entire party is HORRIBLE.  All they are is a bunch of melee goons with absolutely no ranged attacks, and they just get eaten alive by the Harvester.

I've done four playthroughs now (tried a new character as well as importing my characters from DAO and Awakenings) and I cannot even beat the Harvester's first form on Hard.

Any help on how to beat it would be GREATLY appreciated, cheers!

Lack of a mage in the party is a big problem... This is kind of stupid game designing from BW, giving an unbalanced party for this... To win this battle the player needs a lot of health potions, for players who didn't stack-up a lot of health potions... well.... this is really a ****ed-up boss battle.

I tried this method, but got bored in the middle of the fight... it was not a fight at all...it was something else....

The useless part about Runic Golem is its inability to drink potions. Otherwise it's a big help.

So
have it stand around not attacking. If anything starts chasing it, just
make sure it runs. That way it stays alive all the time and can
heal/revive.

My Golem does not have this. Is this a upgrade?

I did not rely on health poultices much at all in either playthrough, but I did not find the need to care for the party to win. But my 25th Mage went through more lyrium potions than a Templar in withdrawl, and she had 30 Willpower, to boot.

well beat it on hard on my other account with a female human rogue.

Lvl 25 with felons coat and roses thorn etc etc.

The game is really stupid sometimes.

I died the first time even though I got to phase 2 as loads of skeelies came. Second play through just ran in front of Harvester and didn't fire at all! It still chased me and ignored the rest of my team that where hitting/firing/electricuting it to death. It eventually got down to phase 2 and I hit the switch at the last minute. Charged in on Phase2 harvester and took him down with only 3 skellies apperaing.

Now the Dwarf warrior was set up in calins armour with threaten activated yet the harvester completly ignored him and chased me, even though I wasn't even attacking? WHY!

My main issue with the fight is I can't get the golem to revive anyone - He automatically switches back to attack or slam.

Alternatively; hold open the radial menu, use the D-pad to highlight the switch and press A.

I'm trying to beat the Harvester on hard right now, he's in his 2nd form and he got stuck in the wall. So I'm just running around with 4 real powerful skeletons hitting my mage in the back every 2 seconds and their health keeps going back up to 100% when that flash of lyrium light happens(whatever its called). I try to revive my teammates but they don't last long and the rogue character tries to summon a bronto when I try to get him to drink some pots. So I have to run around for 2 minutes for the Revive spell to cooldown, then it happens all over again. They get up.. they fall down... skeletons hit me... they get 100% health again. I'm just glad that there is only 4 skeletons chasing me, instead of 30.

I died for 20 times on nightmare, killed by the skeletons at the 2nd form, until i discovered the stupid switch, and the fight was easy.

Make sure you kill all the skeletons with the switch before using the 2nd form. And if you do have leftovers, just kill the skeletons first.

My imported DW rogue from awakening finally finished this off on nightmare. The key for me was keeping Brogan alive since he was my tank. Using grevious insult + taunt + air of insolence, he pretty much had everyone on him. With all the elite tank gear I imported, he was able to take the hits. I respeced Jerrik as an archer. Phase 1 was not so bad. My DW rogue was able to mow down the harvester with the backstabs. She also had like 7 or 8 poisons on at the same time. I did not even use a switch. Phase 2 was harder. I left my tank to grab all the skeletons by himself and had everyone else (except the golem) chase around the harvester. Seems like the skeletons hit harder because Borgan basically had to constantly cycle through health pots and even then he eventually fell. But he occupied enough of the skeletons that the rest chased down the harvester fairly unmolested. I also lucked out as I trapped the harvester against the wall with my rogue and she went into an unending flurry and was able to end it there.

I actually found the fight with the golems in the green/white switch room harder. I had to play that one many times. The golems seem to be immune to backstabs, unlike the harvester.

I see a lot of people mentioning the skeletons being there in phase 2. If you hit the switch just before, you have NO skeletons to deal with.

I didn't import and therefore had pretty bad gear and just one Manual of Focus. I couldn't kill the skeletons in phase 2 before they killed me, even when chain drinking potions (you can't really do this for long without importing). They just weren't dying. Luckily I found out you can time the switch and avoid them entirely.

The timing is tricky, though, with so much going on.  What worked instead for me was to have the bronto taunt the skeletons and round around in cricles while everyone else went after little Harv.

I've heard a lot about how this is easiest as a mage however it is very possible as a warrior (sorry not attempted a rogue yet) so here are my tips for doing this as a warrior:

Preperation is everything... Remember about this dlc as you are playing through awakening try to collect very high level armour and weapons sets not just for yourself but also for your future companions. And it goes without saying make sure they're in your possession before entering the dlc.

Set up the dwarven rogue character as an archer, the accuracy talent helps a lot here, make sure his behaviour is set to cautious so he doesn't get too involved. Equip him with high level equipment you've carried over from Awakening or the end of Origins and he'll easily spam out around 100 damage a shot.

For the Golem make sure you have all the research notes so that he's a lot stronger, set his tactics to ranged and have him constantly using his healing spells to revive any fallen party members and keep his own health up too. Since you have no mage this is the best your going to get healing wise and be thankful for this.

Again you can also upgrade the dwarven warriors armour and weapons if you've planned this far ahead, I also used a tome on this character and gave him higher constitutionso he is less likely to die.

However the best advice I can give is this set all party members up to use the weakest available health potion when there health is below 75% and also to use the highest possible when their health is below 25%.

With this all party members should have what it takes to survive for a long time and you'll be very suprised at how much damage the archer fires out. Of course it also helps massively if you've imported a very high level character across so while the rest of your party is focussed on survival and occasionally dealing damage you can bring the pain with you character.

It is possible to defeat the Harvester with any type of Warrior as long as they are well armed, mine was a duel weilding beast of a damage dealer on my PC version and I am now soon to be attempting the same path on the 360 and pop some achievements.

And a final bit of advice if your going to be doing this on the 360 like me I've found that using the tactics set up options before the battle helps a great deal, this way your characters are more likely to survive than relying on the player to switch between them, no offense this goes for me two it's hard to keep track of everything in 3rd person and as many of you may know if your golem falls you will have a very hard time of things.

Wow. I can't believe I did it. And without seeing the cool Bronto strategy, too. So I respecced Jorrick to be an archer, and gave him some of the new Awakening Rogue skills, as well as maximum Stealth (for a strategy I didn't end up having to use). I also maxed out his ranger and resummoned Bronto just in case it made it stronger; didn't have a chance to check, really. Now, my m/c is a dual wielding Rogue with max stealth. I decided to play this DLC BEFORE Awakening, so my character came from right after the Archdemon and had virtually no good items on my person. To make things worse, the game took my Starfang away.:-/ Fortunately I had Blightsblood, but that didn't have any runes on it yet. So, low-level character, not much extra equipment, and missing some equipment... not a good position to try to beat the Harvester on Hard...

But after the respec, I had a little more luck against Harvester. Of course I made sure to give Jorrick some arrows that dealt extra damage, too. The main thing that really saved me on this one was just general practice, taking advantage over the fact the skeletons and the Harvester try to chase down specific people (leaving the others in the clear for attacking, and the ones being chased just staying out of range until I could hit the switch again), and hitting the switch JUST before killing the flesh Golem form of the Harvester. I ended up losing Bronto and not having the time to summon him again, and I lost Jorrick's brother (both at the start of the second form of Harvester), but the way the enemies were attacking, the golem was in the clear to attack Harvester and really, Harvester in his second form is a total wimp.

If that didn't work, my idea was to use Stealth to allow my main character to get backstabs on Harvester until the skeletons go in range to attack him, then running off and going into stealth again. This strategy didn't work by itself because with everyone in Stealth/Playing Dead, Harvester RAPIDLY regenerates health. So that's why I gave Jorrick max stealth, too. I was gonna have him un-stealth as soon as my main stealthed, drawing the skeletons away and keeping Harvester from regenerating. During this time, I'd get in position for more backstabs. Rinse, repeat. But the timing would have to be pretty good and you'd have to make sure not to get anyone crippled or stunned while they are waiting for Stealth to come back. So if I just got Jorrick and my main into the final form, I'd have been alright if I did it just perfectly. It may have taken a while, but I would have gotten him.

But like I said, somehow I beat Harvester on Hard anyway, without using that strategy.

Not if you move into position near the end of phase 1 and prepare to all out nuke. Very simple then. It completely trivializes phase 3.

But having the Bronto run around with the skeletons is a good strategy that I utterly abused by having two rogues with ranger pets. That's a grand total of 3 pets running in circles and confusing the skeletons. If you are careless a pet will die. So what? Summon a new one.

So I respecced Jorrick to be an archer, and gave him some of the new Awakening Rogue skills, as well as maximum Stealth (for a strategy I didn't end up having to use).

I don't doubt it. I wasn't able to use stealth in the Harvester fight. It helped immensely against the golems earlier though.

I don't understand that you were able to use it in that fight though. I had master stealth and it didn't work.

But yes if your rogue is the only one alive and you stealth, then the monsters will be out of combat and therefore regenerate health. It isn't just Harvester. It's everything. For obvious reasons.

Master Stealth only works in the second half of the fight (and of course if you are already Stealthed when the Harvester Golem fight starts), and when the room shifts from one phase to another it'll cancel it. But it's still enough time to work with.

I beat it on nightmare, but in kind of a cheap way lol. I was a rogue archer import from Awakening and just pounded crit after crit on the harvester while my allies were all meat shields. In the first half the golem and brogan died leaving me jerrik and the bronto. In the second phase I had them take on the skeletons while I shot the harvester to death. If I was ever in trouble I just used strength of stone or ghost; stealth also dropped threat on the second half.

I just beat it on hard on my first playthrough - I died the first couple times, cos I didn't realise the thing with the switch, but I went on the forums and read that I needed to do the switch, and then I beat him on my next try,

My party died when he was down to about half his life, I basically soloed him the rest of the way with my lvl 34 dw rogue - the only reason I managed to do that was cos I had about 70 health potions - I was down to about 10 by the time I finished.

seriously tho, it was Decoy that saved me. whenever I was getting to overwhelmed, I did decoy, and everything fell for it and that gave me time to heal.

but yea, I also hung out right next to the switch the whole time and hit it immediately when the fade or whatever came on.
