1 > No level upgrade beyond level 35 - my Wardens are usually maxed at level 35 from Awakening so no gaining xps there.

That's a bit of a bummer, but IMO the DLC was about as long as a main subquest, which only nets close to a level, so that was no biggie for me.

2 > No Campaign-impacting decisions - these were evident in Origins and Awakening.  Since there are no game-changing decisions, this DLC really is a standalone.  The only saving grace is that you will be able to keep your new items but only IF the GoA save file can be uploaded to future DLC's.

There were the few dialog bits in the beginning, but that was about it. I'm kind of curious about where all my Awakening codex entries went, since I loaded an Awakening save. I have all the items and talents from there, but the codex field is blank. If we can import the GoA file into future installments, I hope it at least receives a brief mention the next time we're in dwarven territory. ... then again, we have quite a list of things that would receive mention (King of Orzammar, Kal'Hirol, now Amgarrak), so who knows.

3 > No interaction with previous companions - although I did not expect there to be any of this, it would have been a very pleasant surprise if there was a cameo or even a letter.  I guess there was no pony express in Ferelden - oh yeah, I forget, they don't have horses in Ferelden!  A griffon express - oh, they're extinct - bummer!

I saw a codex entry entailing a letter from Seneschal Varel. I know - he wasn't a companion, but I was surprised to even get that. I had thought by then my Warden left Vigil's Keep for good....

4 > Rehashing old locations - this doesn't really bother me as much as it seems to bother so many other people.  It may be the same sort of location (with minor alterations) but the circumstances are different.  Place yourself in the story and not be so concerned about local surroundings.  I know it's a cost-saving.  Really - would you pay $30 for a 2-3 hrs DLC just to have new locations?  Look past the superficial.

I guess rehashing old locations like that makes it look like a fan-made mod rather than something official. TBH, I kinda thought the exterior looked like Ortan Thaig when I saw the two bridges and whatnot, but beyond that, I didn't even notice until someone pointed it out. I went through a "thorough rush" of Awakening (tried to complete just about everything but still hurried through the game nonetheless), so the Kal'Hirol similarity really went by me.

Just played it, almost completed it on Nightmare but because of the huge lag my pc had I couldn't use the switch during the final fight so I kept dieing of skeletons after the 1st part of the fight...:pinched:
So after 4 tries I set it back on Hard and could defeat it pretty easy but was a nice fight

Imo it was worth the money, had a good time fighting my way through and the puzzles were nice (I opened the way to the Forge before I fould that scientists body:whistle:)

To bad it didn't have a good story or conversations but I didn't expected that knowing that it would be combat based..

Awesome DLC
kinda short though
I don't mean to brag but wow i pwwnned that Harvester on Nightmare with my DW rogue
all my party members died so i was left to kill the Harvester my self

Heres a tip for those whos having trouble killing the Harvester :

Storm of the Century + Spell Shield/Shimmering Shield
works everytime with any boss in Nightmare Mode especially Gaxxang

... and if our Warden isn't a mage, we can count that out as an option.:pinched:

If a rogue: use Archery to good use like arrow time
have Legoinare scout as a specialization very good defense
use stealth/feign death when low in health make sure to equip things that has high health
regenration like Spellward or natures blessing
make sure you use poisons/grenades/traps such as quieth death/elemental grenade/lure traps
Flicker is a good talent if you have it use only when surrounded by enemies make sure to stealth
first before doing so for more damage
i pwnned the Harvester this way:D

If a warrior: be sure to equip items that have high reneration to stamina/ and health such as natures
                      blessing
Make us of Poisons and grenades not traps very useless and takes so much time only  good for
                      rogues because they have stealth
Have crowd control abilities such as War Cry/Massacre/Holy Smite/Fade Burst/
Make sure to stack on Swift salve a must for 2h warriors
Grab your Weapon and hope for the best:alien:

if a mage: Storm of the Century + Spell Shield/Shimmering Shield:wizard:

Sure about Storm of the Century? If anything that'll get your party killed quicker, even if you apply grounding balms/elixirs. Since the boss and all its minions are melee and your companions are melee, you will be fighting within its radius. Not to mention if you cast it and the AOE overlaps the switch, you won't be able to dispel the skeletons without taking damage.

FYI the easiest way to deal with Gaxkang with a mage was mana clash when he phases into caster form. Not Storm, that would place the entire party in its AOE.

So basically what you are saying is that you set your standards low, and since you set them low stuff like this is ok with you. The thing is that bioware makes these video trailers that make people THINK we are getting more than we do. Up till now the DLC has had hard choices to make, great story, nice additions to the armory of the game, and more. Golems DLC was a quick run through a small dungeon. That is simply all it was.

OK, for all you kids that don't understand basic economics there's an old saying, "You get what you paid for" that gets to the same point. You don't walk into McDonalds and drop $5 and expect the same quality you get for a $60 steak. So, yes, based on price I have lowered expectations for what they are going to deliver to me. If you don't you aren't living in the real world.

The problem with deep choices and cool characters and a deep story is that they take a long time to build up and for $5 they can't spend a lot of time on things. Maybe you me and most of the folks on this board would drop $15 on a longer DLC where they could do that but the bulk of the population likely won't. $5 puts them in almost impulse buy range where they're gonna get a bigger bang for the buck. I get that and as long as that is the price point and they tell us, and they have been right up front unless you imagine something wacthing the videos that wasn't there, what these things are - this DLC was billed as combat for people who thought combat was too easy.

Am I entertained for 1.5 hours? Yes. That's worth $5 for me and I'm ahppy with that instead of griping about what it could have been and never will be.

Frankly as much as money I think they are way, way, way too concerned about breaking continuity with every possible variation of the game and that is why they've shied away from any story based DLC.

Somebody metioned letter from Seneschal Varel. I have a question on that. Awakening spoilers warning!

I've saved Vigil's Keep during Awakening and received letter from Seneschal... Garevel. So... If you save the city Varel acutally survives? :o

disappointed once again with DLC for this game. beat Golems on nightmare (all 3 achievements reached) with rogue in about an hour. thought it was to be a combat challenge but I only died once during the entire DLC. enemies took a little longer to kill but not that challenging in my opinion. original game was incredible but the DLC's have bummed me out.

I agree. You should not expect "deep story" and "long conversations" from a $5 DLC.

GoA is just another oportunity to dust off your favourite Warden and go clear a dungeon for some new loot.

That's what I expected for $5 and that's exactly what I've got. So I'm pretty much satisfied.

He does have a point, though... this was a bit dissapointing. There wasn't even any Big Decision at the end.

Other DLC had Big Decision:
Warden's Keep Kill Avernus or use him? Kill Sophia or honor your deal?

Ostagar: Give Cailan a funeral for his bravery? Send him to the wolves to cleanse his memory? Leave him to the Darkspawn for his foolishness?

Even Leliana's song let you choose whether to yell bitterly and kill the final boss, say that you're just here to do what's right, or let your companion kill the final boss.

This one has barely any dialogue, and no character building :(

Thats probably why it was advertised as being mainly about combat for high level characters, as opposed to being billed as containing a series of deep moral choices.  Granted, the moral choices are an important aspect of Bioware games, but every now and then ignoring that aspect is ok.

Seriously, this was exactly what it was advertised as being, if you assumed it would contain more then thats your own fault.  Granted, it was still a bit lackluster, but it was what they said it was.

You're wrong. If Vigil's Keep is fully upgraded, it survives. Characters left to defend the Keep will have different epilogue entries than they would if you choose them to accompany you. They will die if the Keep isn't sufficiently upgraded.

I didn't enjoy this one too much, it wasn't unique like return to ostagar and warden's keep.

No . . . I fully upgraded the Keep's defenses and had all my soldiers in Silverite armor.

I chose to defend the Keep rather than Amaranthine and the Seneschal died.

In all my playthroughs where I chose to defend Amaranthine, the Keep survives and I suppose so does the Seneschal.

I think it was a satisfying DLC for its price. Finally there was some challenge in Dragon Age for me. I forgot when was the last time I had reloaded a save from a lost battle before this DLC (I always play on hard). The dungeon of Amgarrak was very well done with its spooky atmo, the tough battles and the special boss which beats in "beauty" even a broodmother. I also liked the different lighting fxs of the area, this was something completely new in DA. It would be cool if Amgarrak was part of the Deep Roads in Origins or of Kal-Hirol in Awakening. It's simply the best dungeon in design and structure of Dragon Age by far, for me. The only weird thing I noticed about it, is that its size is 1 GB...

5 $, is... uhhh... two beers in a bar. Not even that at the current exchange rate.

I'd happily pay more, if that means depth, replayability and interaction.

The best DLC for DA is still, by far, Prisoner of Stone. Dear Bioware, please produce something more in line with the original campaign. I don't mind it taking place after Awakenings. In fact, I prefer that... but something more than just monsters to fight would be nice, thanks. :o)

Did you get the Qunari merchant and Lilith because having both merchants is needed as an upgrade.

For Silverite Armors, I think you still need to give Herren the Veridium and Iron ores for that subquest to actually complete.
