That's a bit of a bummer, but IMO the DLC was about as long as a main subquest, which only nets close to a level, so that was no biggie for me.
There were the few dialog bits in the beginning, but that was about it. I'm kind of curious about where all my Awakening codex entries went, since I loaded an Awakening save. I have all the items and talents from there, but the codex field is blank. If we can import the GoA file into future installments, I hope it at least receives a brief mention the next time we're in dwarven territory. ... then again, we have quite a list of things that would receive mention (King of Orzammar, Kal'Hirol, now Amgarrak), so who knows.2 > No Campaign-impacting decisions - these were evident in Origins and Awakening. Since there are no game-changing decisions, this DLC really is a standalone. The only saving grace is that you will be able to keep your new items but only IF the GoA save file can be uploaded to future DLC's.
3 > No interaction with previous companions - although I did not expect there to be any of this, it would have been a very pleasant surprise if there was a cameo or even a letter. I guess there was no pony express in Ferelden - oh yeah, I forget, they don't have horses in Ferelden! A griffon express - oh, they're extinct - bummer!
I saw a codex entry entailing a letter from Seneschal Varel. I know - he wasn't a companion, but I was surprised to even get that. I had thought by then my Warden left Vigil's Keep for good....
4 > Rehashing old locations - this doesn't really bother me as much as it seems to bother so many other people. It may be the same sort of location (with minor alterations) but the circumstances are different. Place yourself in the story and not be so concerned about local surroundings. I know it's a cost-saving. Really - would you pay $30 for a 2-3 hrs DLC just to have new locations? Look past the superficial.
I guess rehashing old locations like that makes it look like a fan-made mod rather than something official. TBH, I kinda thought the exterior looked like Ortan Thaig when I saw the two bridges and whatnot, but beyond that, I didn't even notice until someone pointed it out. I went through a "thorough rush" of Awakening (tried to complete just about everything but still hurried through the game nonetheless), so the Kal'Hirol similarity really went by me.
