Have you saved the first merchant at the very beginning of Awakening? There is one when you are with Mhairi outside of Vigil's Keep. He is needed to complete the "trade must flow" quest I think.

since when did i say your party will live after storm of the century?

They won't live. Neither will your main character, but the boss will still be up. That is a recipe for self-defeat.

Yea..

Perhaps its just one of awakenings many glitches

Check your save again. Before you go to Amaranthine, look in your quests tab (Elemental Requirements) to see if it's actually completed. Mine didn't complete until I gave all three ores to Herren.

Awakening has quite a few bugs. I finished Law and Order in Amaranthine before recruiting Sigrun and that apparantely disables the scripted encounter for her personal quest.

So basically what you are saying is that you set your standards low, and since you set them low stuff like this is ok with you. The thing is that bioware makes these video trailers that make people THINK we are getting more than we do. Up till now the DLC has had hard choices to make, great story, nice additions to the armory of the game, and more. Golems DLC was a quick run through a small dungeon. That is simply all it was.

OK, for all you kids that don't understand basic economics there's an old saying, "You get what you paid for" that gets to the same point. You don't walk into McDonalds and drop $5 and expect the same quality you get for a $60 steak. So, yes, based on price I have lowered expectations for what they are going to deliver to me. If you don't you aren't living in the real world.

The problem with deep choices and cool characters and a deep story is that they take a long time to build up and for $5 they can't spend a lot of time on things. Maybe you me and most of the folks on this board would drop $15 on a longer DLC where they could do that but the bulk of the population likely won't. $5 puts them in almost impulse buy range where they're gonna get a bigger bang for the buck. I get that and as long as that is the price point and they tell us, and they have been right up front unless you imagine something wacthing the videos that wasn't there, what these things are - this DLC was billed as combat for people who thought combat was too easy.

Am I entertained for 1.5 hours? Yes. That's worth $5 for me and I'm ahppy with that instead of griping about what it could have been and never will be.

Frankly as much as money I think they are way, way, way too concerned about breaking continuity with every possible variation of the game and that is why they've shied away from any story based DLC.

And there lies the problem, Bioware/EA is nothing more than McDonalds and until they release downloads with actual length and quality they never will be anything but. Every download we have gotten for ME2 or DA is nothing but fast food quality products. They are only satisfying for a short time before you are hungry for more. None of them last much more than about 2 hours and after Return to Ostagar all of them are stand alone adventures. With these DA ones where they have reused levels to make the download we are paying for leftovers.

If you choose to defend the keep Seneschal dies no matter what. Should you choose to save Amaranthine instead, he's not even mentioned in the epilogue. So i just wantend to make sure that fully upgrading the keep and defending Amaranthine changes the letter's sender...

Also, things that probably count as upgrades:
- Saving scared merchant at the beggining and bringing new metchants to the keep
- Clearing keep's dungeons from darkspawn and closing the gate
- Finding Iron, Veridium and Silverite deposits for Wade
- Finding granite in Wending Woods and giving Voldrik 80 gold
- Bringing lyrium sand 4x to Dworkin

I upgraded Vigil's Keep fully, and chose to defend Amaranthine. My letter was from Garavel.

Whether this is intentional or not is hard to know, since my ending was bugged - my codex claimed that the Keep had been destroyed and the companions I left there killed, but then it was magically un-destroyed and they were all alive again in the epilogue.

Picture this: some time after you complete the main quest in Orzammar, the events of this DLC become available to you. You come across Jerrick in a random world encounter and he brings you the news of Amgarrak and pleads for your aid. This quest becomes available in your Journal and you can travel to Orzammar at any time and play out the events of this DLC. You could even do something along the lines of Return to Ostagar, where it was implied that Alistair and Wynne would very much like to accompany you when you head that way, since they have a connection to that place/those events. When Jerrick informed me that he could trust no one but me with the news of Amgarrak, I was a bit taken aback and wanted to set him straight, telling him that I did not triumph over the Deep Roads and bring back the token of a Paragon alone… yes, I did have help, my trusty party. Personally, it would make sense to have Oghren and Shale voice their desire to accompany you to Amgarrak because, again, they have that connection to the place/events. Of course, other people might prefer to bring other party members, which I could understand them being silent throughout the adventure, but the preferred companions would have to react to the events around, would have to be right there with you in spirit as well as body, just as Alistair and Wynne were in Return to Ostagar. Just a little effort made to incorporate this DLC into the world of DA:O would go a long way to make this experience an amazing one.

In RedCliffe Castle, there are three Dwarves discussing House Dace's Activities in Origins. Check it when you complete Landsmeet and are there before you go upstairs. They are actually discussing the story of GoA.

There is one reason why I don't think Origins will have any more additions... I think that Bioware believes that it's pretty much complete. The level cap is level 25, and if you play through the normal game, not even trying to get a lot of XP, and do some DLC, then you will reach 25, and so there is little reason to incorporate more DLC into origins. This is the same case with Awakening, you can reach level 35 just by playing normally through. So making it separate is just practical. I think this DLC was for those who didn't cap their level yet, and so they can with this. I think that Bioware's next DLC will be a larger 7 dollar one, and will probably be about something a little more deep and probably have something to do with one of our companions. It would be nice to see another expansion coming, but with their work on DLC, and DA2 coming out next year, I doubt they will attempt it. I do think that the last DLC that they release will be about Morrigan though... I may be wrong, but I got a hunch. The greatest ending for our warden would be if he/she was killed by Morrigan. That is epic story. And leads well into DA2.

Yes there is. level 25 is the level cap for origins, and level 35 is for awakening. It's also the level cap for this DLC. They made it a hard level cap with a patch I believe.

Good catch! I'm going to have to pay more attention next time I'm up to that point in the game :)

Okay, Sten!  Maybe give more details next time . . . Image IPB

TBH, I'm kinda on the fence now after reading the positive and negative reviews.  I was gungho about getting this DLC but since I've come to hear a lot of things missing, I'm having doubts now.

Downside:

1 > No level upgrade beyond level 35 - my Wardens are usually maxed at level 35 from Awakening so no gaining xps there.

2 > No Campaign-impacting decisions - these were evident in Origins and Awakening.  Since there are no game-changing decisions, this DLC really is a standalone.  The only saving grace is that you will be able to keep your new items but only IF the GoA save file can be uploaded to future DLC's.

3 > No interaction with previous companions - although I did not expect there to be any of this, it would have been a very pleasant surprise if there was a cameo or even a letter.  I guess there was no pony express in Ferelden - oh yeah, I forget, they don't have horses in Ferelden!  A griffon express - oh, they're extinct - bummer!

4 > Rehashing old locations - this doesn't really bother me as much as it seems to bother so many other people.  It may be the same sort of location (with minor alterations) but the circumstances are different.  Place yourself in the story and not be so concerned about local surroundings.  I know it's a cost-saving.  Really - would you pay $30 for a 2-3 hrs DLC just to have new locations?  Look past the superficial.

Upside:

1 > Tough boss and tougher fights - makes things more interesting for any of my level 35 Wardens

2 > New items for all Wardens - big plus here as well as the uber-item cash-cow.  Can finally start with good gear.

In the End:  I'll probably still buy it.  I spend more than $5 on coffee in a day.  Let's keep it in perspective.  Will it improve my DA gaming experience - YES!  Image IPB

Thanks for the consise review.  I won't be buying it based on this information.  Doesn't have anything of what I enjoyed about DA:O it seems.

Rilly? Will have to go and check that out. Honestly, I either wasn't paying that much attention or it simply didn't click with me.  But that's pretty cool.  Thanks for the info. Image IPB

... anyone else think the mace was maybe meant to be worth 39 gold, instead of 339? Not that I don't appreciate being rich beyond my wildest dreams immediately at game start but, as hard as it was to defeat the harvester on hard... I'm not convinced it was worth quite *that* much. Especially when the other items are worth more than ten times less.

Nightmare (which I still haven't done!), on the other hand....

Oh, speaking of the items, while they're really cooI, anyone else kind of wish that their description didn't mention Angarrak? It keeps making me think that the Future-Warden visited themselves in the past. :P

This dlc would have been too easy with a proper mage companion. Only real challenge is the Harvester even on nightmare and this is because the yellow & orange level skeleton lackeys that spawn with the harvester takes no melee damage what so ever. Well done Bioware. I'm still wondering, where the puzzle that I needed to solve was in the game.

It is a bit strange, but just pretend you did as part of the main campaign (in your mind!) ;). To be honest, I feel the entire DLC really should have been an add-on to the Orzammar quest-line rather than a separate campaign. They could have just had you pick the items up and made them transferrable into Awakening.

339 is what you can sell it for, it's actually worth like +1300, I can't remember exactly so I don't think it's a mistake, can't see the reasoning for making it worth that much though, I mean you're a poor elf from the Alienage, but don't worry as you're magically carrying a mace around that you can flog for a ridiculous amount.

I actually destroy it as well it's not a great weapon or one I would want to use so carrying it around is pointless and selling it for all that gold just feels like cheating to me.

The Reaper's Cudgel can be sold for a whooping 679 gold if you're a dwarf noble.

...I'm a dwarf noble... where did you sell it at? I think this weapon is suppose to be worth that much, it's not a mistake. They made it that much because the DLC is very difficult. In reality, it would be worth that much because of how rare of artifact it is... however all the other "rare" artifacts in the game just aren't priced realistically. I mean, you character gets weapons and armor from the man who killed the first arch demon in the first blight, and it's worth what? a couple gold... It does make the gold part of the game easier, but I didn't feel it was cheating, I've already pretty much spent it. Of course 679 is a little more then 339...

If you're a dwarf noble, then Gorim (in Denerim) will buy anything from you at 50% of the item's value (all other merchants buy at 25%).
