hi there

for a long while i played mass effect 2 on a 19"  lcd monitor at 1024 x 768 resolution (4:3)

but i changed my monitor from a 19" to a 22" widescreen 1680 x 1050 (16:10)

the problem i face is when i load mass effect 2 and im at the main screen where it says " press any key to continue "

when i press any key after a couple of seconds my game crashes and i have to close the game. ive tried playing in a bunch of different resolutions and all still the same problem

any ideas how i can go about this?

the game is patched to 1.02 and my graphics driver is fully up to date

Motherboard Name      Asus Striker Extreme
CPU Type                     QuadCore Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600,( 2.4ghz)
Ram                              Corsair XMS2 CM2X2048-6400C5DHX (4gb)

any advice is much appreciated.

Have you tried Mass Effect 2 Configuration Utility before you started ME2?

Try this:

1)Change aspect ratio and resolution in Mass Effect 2 configuration utility and save settings.

2) Run ME again.

The Geforce 8n00 generation all had firmware defects when new, it was correctable in software, but has meant that current games and MANY current video drivers, especially the PhysX portions, have been incompaitible with the matchup between those cards, and the pair of Mass Effect games, plus Dragon Age, seem particularly problematic.

You will probably be able to sort out your situation through "rolling back" to older video drivers.  You may have to go back to the 196.21, or still further.  I can't tell you how old my drivers (which do work, but I have a 8800 GT, not a GTS, and the reason I don't know is the Geforce-equipped pair of PCs are in my "family room", which costs so much to keep cool (west side of the old house), that I don't try to air condition it from May through September, unless I have more than a couple of people over to visit, and need the larger room) actually are.

I got the 8800 GT new, but as overstocked, about a year ago, very inexpensively.  Whatever CD came with it is most likely what I still have as the driver.

hi guys

sorry to bring up my original topic again but i have been browsing the forum and i cant find any other topic related to my problem

would anyone have any idea how i can go about solving this crash?

i have tried using different resolutions and reverted back to my original graphics card driver

the only thing thats seems to point to be causing a problem is changing from 19" monitor to a 22" monitor

could it be me2 is not compatible with my monitor :S?

I have the same problem, but mine is related to saves and honestly try removing your saves from your folder destination and check if it runs, I fear that after the Shadow broker DLC alot of people have this problem

Who are you addressing? No one working for Bioware has been in here in at least a week, maybe two, leaving no one here but the game players. When you want to get advice from the rest of us, you give us the standard diagnostics information, we try to look at that and come up with suggestions. But AFAIK, you haven't done that anywhere on these forums.

(Edit here -- newly added)  I did look, and I don't see any prior summary of your system:

(See Chris' sticky thread about reporting problems)

okay so I have done some tweaking around and figured out a fix. It's a bit crude but it should work.

1. Copy your entire save folder and move them elsewhere

2. Start a new game until you can manually save (right after you wake up)

3. Copy 1 save file, not the folder but the file from one of your your copied saves that you moved elsewhere (get the most recent one I guess)

4. Delete only the manual save in your new save folder and replace it with the copied one

5. Edit only the name and class of the new folder with the name of the copied folder

6. Open ME2 and load up the manual save you just copied in

Now there are probably other ways around but I found that worked for me. Not sure down the road if it'll crash again but I exited twice and went back in just fine.

I also had the crash happen after the "Press Any Key Screen", and deleting my save file fixed it. I was only a few hours in on this playthrough, so I'm just gonna restart, but thanks for the help everybody!
