Length-wise it wasn't bad, and the story was OK for it being a quickie. One thing I noticed was that the codex was surprisingly empty - all the Awakening entries vanished (and Oghren's entry reverted to its Origins version). I liked the King of Orzammar mention - again, for a short installment like this, mentions like that were appropriate and reminded you of things you made an impact on. I got lost a couple of times inside the forge area itself, which, in the end, I didn't mind. Despite that, things still felt linear, which, I guess can be expected from a shortie.

One of my lead gripes was the ending. It was basically a "Let's get out of here" with no follow through, and what could even have been a cliffhanger had it developed some more. Some equivalent of the post-coronation in Origins would have been a nice add, which could have taken place at the Dace Estate, or the Shaperate (just to reuse old assets). Things like that, IMO, make save imports feel a lot smoother.

One thing I'm a bit questionable on was having the Golem essentially play the role of mage, as it came off as being half-Shale half-Wynne at the very best. And as a HN Sword and Shield Warrior, we were sorely lacking a mage (2 Sword and Shield Warriors, a 2 weapon rogue [and his summoned creature], and a golem). Basically, if the golem was supposed to be the mage, he came off as one very poorly.

All in all an OK experience. Could have been better, but it wasn't terrible.

MKDAWUSS pretty much summed up my feelings. Although I have to say I liked the ending better in this DLC than in Awakening. I tried to import my Awakening character and the game crashed. After three attempts, I just imported my Origins character and got my Awakening character minus the level upgrades. Odd.

Spoilers

This seems to be an extension of the Anvil of the Void epilogue. Also, this apparently does take place after the events of Awakening.

I thought it was pretty good too, but definitely could have used a proper Mage companion. On a slightly funnier note I was wondering why the DLC seemed unusually hard, especially the end boss (which took me like 5 tries to kill it - with just the PC left standing). After it was done I did a face-palm and realized I still had the difficulty set to Nightmare.

I gotta say so far I'm really hating it, the battles aren't really hard or challenging they're just cheap. You don't die because someone out played or out thought you, you just get spammed down by the same BS again and again. Having 4 golems all throw rocks at my mage at the opening of a fight and then all slam punch her to death on the floor before she gets back up is not my idea of a challenge since I'm dead before I cast one spell.

I have to admit I really enjoyed this DLC - the only thing I'd have enjoyed more is if it had been integrated into the main campaign (possibly unlocked post-Orzammar). I liked the references to the King and the Anvil (if you preserved it), I enjoyed the atmosphere immensely and that frickin' harvester took me ages to kill, and also wins an award for one of the creepiest DA enemies. The Broodmother creeped me the hell out, but a giant golem created from the slaughtered bodies of countless abducted casteless dwarves almost tops it. I enjoyed the story, brief though it was. I give it 7.5/10.

EDIT: And I love the rewards. I kinda wanna do a mace & shield runthrough now.

Damn, clan4mack, that's pretty harsh. Sometimes with invisible walls I find selecting one of the party members and moving with them allows you to bypass them, but only sometimes =(.

The constant knockdowns are beyond irritating. They don't make the DLC hard, challenging, or difficult. They make it stupid and tedious.

Aside from the constant knockdowns, I enjoyed it and thought it was worth $5. The story is pretty good and the items you get for the regular campaigns are really, really good. I wish it was longer but I can say the same about every DLC for DA:O.

I thought it was ok, but the two things annoyed me the most.

1. There wasn't a single choice in the entire thing (i destroyed the anvil because i didn't trust Branka and i was hoping that i could now bring back the golems in safer hands)

2. According to the Origins epilouge my Dwarf Noble is a paragon, yet no were is this mentioned, not even a comment from Jarrick (this was also one of the things that annoyed me in awakening)

you obviously just edited the smoke out of it, try going the right way and you'll find the door to the forge pretty quick.

I agree (not to mention the constant stomping is more than just annoying).

I have to admit I'm not liking it.. although that may be for this insane reason that none of my charries will use health potions when I tell them to.. got slaughtered in the final battle and i've tried everything so may throw it in the play when I'm not pissed off at it pile.

Well, the epilogue is a vast period of time [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/wink.png[/smilie] (and I guess this is part of the "interest in Caridin's research never waned" bit).

On
easy it took me two tries. Would have had it in 1 but my Warden went
down, and after that I was basically screwed, as my Warden was (PC Bias
Syndrome aside) the best character of the party. I had one of Dworkin's
Lyrium Bombs and it came in kinda handy in the end there.

1. Yeah I know what you mean - the game wouldn't even let you advance one step unless you met the prereqs. But then again, I don't know where there was any room for choice... Skipping the golem companion maybe? The whole place starts to come crashing down once the harvester is destroyed.

2. I guess that leads to the question of how a Paragon is addressed... That's something I've never noticed or thought about with my Warden being an HN instead of a DN or DC.

Didn't care for the ending, does it change on nightmare? If it at least waited a few mins like let the credits roll then the zerg rush I could buy it but dam. Wish there was some choices too, oh well.

I noticed that too - my characters would not use potions when I wanted them to.  Also, the golem would not revive or group heal, sometimes, when told to do so.

A 1300 Sovereign mace with boring stats, a Mage belt with some pretty nice stats very handy for a Blood Mage and a Wooden Tower Shield good but ugly.

I'm playing through it right now and I agree with everyone who said that the lack of a mage character really made things rough. I'm using my warrior for this run and I imagine the DLC's difficulty would feel much more balanced if I were using a mage character instead.

I'm gonna have nightmares tonight. The end boss was just CREEPY. I totally got my be-hind handed to me in the final battle on nightmare a few times before I switched the difficulty to normal and beat the creepy flesh thingy. I did figure out a good tactic. So I'll up the difficulty next time through and see if I can kill the thing on hard.

Did anyone else have trouble getting your golem to use health pots? I had his tactics set to take a health pot at 25%, but it didn't seem to make a difference. They had no affect on his health whatsoever. I also couldn't get him to drink them manually. Anyway, I need to cleanse my palette before I head off into the fade. I just know I'm gonna have nightmares.

Easily the worst DLC of the lot. Bad plot and very short. I'm pretty disappointed - shouldn't these be getting better as we go along?

... Hmm, maybe you've got me there. I dunno, this one is shorter but at least you can play as your Warden.

Nah, I still think this is worse, at least DSC was mildly interesting because it had something new. GoA just seems like a big step backwards.
