I hadn't intended to buy the DLC but was drawn in the by the blood mage belt.  I fail.

Anyway, then I got excited to see my Warden again.  Hello Warden!

Posted Image

I was also intrigued by the creepy story line.  However, I have to agree with the others that the combat is just pointlessly tedious.  I am also having the issue that my companions will not take health poultices.  I see "Lesser Health Poultice" run down the screen five times over their heads but they don't take one.  And they're squishy to begin with, especially the rassin frassin golem.  So I end up spending the whole time trying to keep people on their feet and not even able to coordinate attacks because people are dropping so fast.

Is it too much to ask to get some balance????

Way, way, way, WAY too many things dealing stuns in the last fight.

Incredibly weak heals from the Golem.

Unclear battle strategies. (Took five party wipes before I figured out the switch)

Achievement based on difficulty settings... Epic Fail.

Never playing this DLC again.

The Golem is crap, he can't heal with health poultices since he just curls up and doesn't use them and his primary means of healing the squad is a Spirit Healer's top tier spell Cleansing Aura. Which means the Golem can generate a maximum of 53 Health in a 10m radius every 5 seconds. My Level 35 Spirit Healer had trouble keeping both herself and the party on their feet and she could dish out 316 health in 10 seconds with Regeneration and 126 Health with Heal and 158 Health with Group Heal. With heal numbers that high I still struggled just to keep everyone alive and still hit enemies with hexes and primal spells to contribute to taking down the end boss. How a rogue is supposed to beat this with that useless fracking Golem is beyond me, 53 Health is nothing when enemies hit for over 100 every single time.

I have to say my favorite reason to restart that stupid boss fight was when my Healer drew tons of Aggro so a popped forcefield on her to get it back on my warriors only to take down the first stage of that stupid creature and have the CG play. When I'm back in the game I'm surrounded by skeletons and my forcefield has been removed dispite having only just cast it a few seconds ago. Mage proceeds to get spammed by riposte to death and party gets wiped out. FUN STUFF!

Basically I paid $5 to be frustrated and angry, this DLC is garbage just like that useless DSC pile of rubbish. I still contend that DSC is worse because it didn't even have a story, while this one has a stupid story with no ending.

Man, I sometimes feel alone. Perhaps its because I play the game on easy, I don't worry overmuch about battle difficulty. I liked the game, plain and simple.

Re: BillWatson08 - I feel ya. With something like Dragon Age, I'm in it for the story first and foremost.

In other news, thank god I imported my Awakening sword and board HN warden - Shield Wall and improved Carapace saved my life during the multi-golem fight, where I see ALL my party members go down with only one lieutenant casualty for the enemies. My warden wore down every single one of them. Last boss was a cakewalk in comparison. And then I find out that the chests contained the very things that would have helped my party breeze through the fight.

NOT looking forward to replaying this as a rogue - ugh. Definitely feel the need for a mage in the party. Let's see what my arcane warrior can do.

For those people who are having problems with the party members (Esp. golem) not self healing, I recommend switching to them manually to force a health potion drinking, and set the golem to use the heal upgrade continuously (I set group heal -> ally health < 70%). The golem has huge reserves of mana.

On that room I ended up abusing Switches. Hit the green the instant combat started and grabbed the stuff. Switched out and then left the others to fall to the golems and hit the nearest switch I could find, teleports all party members to that switch so they revived out of 'combat'. Died several times in that room before doing so.

I made a new toon instead of transfering one of my god charaters in. Went with a CC mage, and it was a challenge, as it is supposed too be. Only died once on the last boss, but golem rezzed me.

That being said, if I had gone with any other class/combo I can see how it would have been frustrating if not impossible. Of course I belive it is intended that you transfer your main over. And I can't see a geared out max toon of any class would have any difficulty. Your like a demi-god.

Not a fan of cheesy chain stuns, but I'll take it over the cake walk that was Awakening.

Oh and having two oversized party members don't mix with small rooms. That cow was constantly wedged behind other party members.

Im playing this on the xbox. It took longer to download it than it did to complete it. All i could hear was the Golem and strange rhino thing stomping around behind me constantly.

At one point very near the end i had 3 strange rhino creatures on the go dont ask me how coz i have no freaking idea. I wish i had recorded it.

All in all i was really disappointed with this dlc. Hope DA2 is better than this.

I'm trying to avoid spoilers so I kinda skimmed this thread, but most of what I'm reading isn't sounding too good.

To those who bought it, does this progress the Warden's story in any meaningful way? Is it worth the 5 bucks?

If your Warden is a dwarf noble/commoner? Perhaps. Otherwise? Not really. The gear reward ends up being the most meaningful thing out of it.

Well that's disappointing.

I have DA for PC, so between the toolset and all the mods available a new piece of gear doesn't mean much to me.  Guess I'll be holding off on this one for now.

Yeah not much story relevance.. I guess you could tie it to the "Anvil of Void; Epilogue", and you get a mention of whoever you put on the throne(Bhelen/Harrowmont) from Jerrick. If you are looking for content to add to the Origins' story I wouldn't suggest this DLC. It is more or so just some challenging fights with a few goodies you can import into the campaigns. I didn't like this DLC at all I was hoping Leliana's Song was the DLC teams turning in the right direction, but I would compare this more to Darkspawn Chronicles than anything else. Very little dialogue, story relevance, and just full of combat. I really regret spending 400points on it.

I got the same as you, no tower shield.

Nice to see I wasn't the only one with an idiotic Gollum, mine simply refused to use revival.

Darkspawn chronicles had the whole, playing as the darkspawn novelty and the pleasure of killing all the characters i didn't like but it also had the trauma of killing the dog

Leliana's song had the voiced thing plus a reasonable story

This had no choices, annoying battles were i was repeatedly pulled across the floor by revenants and knocked to the floor by golems. And some new monster thing to harass me in future games

I honestly think the Revival thing must be a fairly common bug. Mine had it too. It was the only bug I encountered, but it was sure annoying as hell during the Harvester fight.

Currently stuck at the final battle (after about 2 hours of game) at "normal" difficulty with a new (level 20) character.

If they want to make other combat-focused DLCs in the future (and I hope they won't - more choices and characters, please), they should put them as an add-on to DAO, like Warden's Keep, not as a new campaign - so you get to use your party. As I wrote elsewhere, one of the key elements of tactical combat for me is being able to choose your companions - "Whom do I bring with me now considering my class, the opponents, etc.". Otherwise, there really isn't much variety in the strategy you can use.

I think the strong selling point for this was being able to play your Warden again

I enjoyed it.

I played on nightmare with a mage that I had solo-ed DAO on Nightmare with. (Shapeshifter with No primal spells or blood magic -- that in itself presented a challenge as just about everything was immune to the nature damage of insect swarm and the golems were mostly immune to my mind affecting spells and even though my character had only put points into magic and was walking around with Spell Wisp and Spell might going the bad guys resisted my spells far too often)

I had to be very careful with this game on Nightmare else a swing or two from anything seemed to kill me.

That being said I still liked it.

I enjoyed the challenge and I really enjoyed the atmosphere and  appreciated how they acknowledged my decisions regarding the anvil from my DAO play through.

I also really enjoyed the horror movie ending.

Thanks for a fun few hours BioWare!

Alodar :)

I rather liked it. I played it at normal and there were a couple of challenging fight, but otherwise it wasn't anywhere near as horrid as some people here make it out to be.

Perhaps they are playing at nightmare or something, but then again nobody is forced to do it. For one, it sounds like the max difficulty is actually difficult.

I played on normal, but my PC does not have über gear because I play for story rather than for combat. I'll go back to it, but I just have to be in the mood for tedium and insta-death. If you're a power player, enjoy fiddling with gameplay things a lot, etc., you would probably have fun at it. I thought it had some intriguing things and good flow.  Definite advantage if you have a PC who has knock-down resistance.

I played it once, but I will never do it again. This is the worst DLC for DAO so far. Besdes cheap hack and slash stuff this has nothing to offer that even remotely smells like an RPG.

Being stun locked to death is not fun. I thought Bioware would have learnt this by now from the original Mass Effect.

Actually this is one of the complaints I have for DA:O combat, whoever gets the first fireball to knock over the other party will clearly be the winner. I think a solution to mitigate this is to increase character's health pools to allow more tactical ways to survive these stun locks.

Story was ok, but the end boss is horrible on nightmare. Very little content beside higher rank fights. For people looking for a challenge its a good buy, but for those looking for more, not really. I didn't enjoy it.

Finished it justly with my Lvl.20 rogue but that on easy. Not very much impressed by it, the only good thing was to play my Warden again. Others than that it was like DSC minus the stupid story but with tedious fights. Meh.

Will probably game it one day again with my Lvl. 34 rogue and on higher difficulty ( the final fight, that is) but for that I have to be in a very good mood. That being said, for the difficulty achievement, when do I have to switch it to harder difficulty in the end fight? Before it, or can I go on easy breeze until that creepy thing is half dead and switch it then? Would be nice to know.
